Limited Run Announces Lord Of The Rings: War In The North Physical Release, Here's A Look

@LightSpirit But if you don't have it on PS3(!?), then it's a whole new game. For $20. I'm guessing that's why they've called it a "Legacy Edition."

Someone else always has to carry on the story.

@LightSpirit In all fairness it would be easier and more accessible to play this on modern hardware.

It'll be $40 minimum

@EVIL-C I mean ps3 I would consider still modern. Its hdmi hookup and uses bluray disks and wireless controllers and if 7th Gen games is what your looking for there are tons of great games that will never see the light of day on (modern hardware)

@Deadringer80 nah, we're 2-3 console generations ahead. There aren't many people with a room where every previous generation is connected to a tv. Many people sell their older consoles if they have small homes or just never used it anymore. That's how it goes. Older hardware also dies sometimes. I tried using my PS3 a few years ago as bluray player in my bedroom but the controllers and the PS3 weren't working amazingly anymore, probably due to not using it for years.
The splitscreen performance of this particular game was not amazing either.
Re-releasing the game with some small QoL updates and on platforms people are using currently is convenient.

From that generation the Xbox 360 was the console of choice, so I wouldn't exactly call the PS3 accessible.
Regardless of that...isn't all video games based on Lord of the Rings garbage or was this one actually good?

@Aneira There are many good LOTR games and this is one of them. Pretty good hack n' slash with a story that isn't from the books or movies but is the most faithful to the source material from all of the games that take liberties with that.

I’ll definitely pick this up physically then. It has a special place in my heart and would love to replay. I wouldnt necessarily recommend it to others as I can’t say how well it’s aged, but for myself it’s one to pick up

@Deadringer80 While hardcore gamers may have a PS3 still in the house, most have long moved on. Most sell their previous console to get the new one. PS3 hits 20 years old in November. It's retro at this point.

@Omedru I still play mine all the time and the games hold up because basically camera controls and gameplay became standard that gen as for reliability of hardware there's plenty of ps5s dying everyday do to liquid metal issues that is just as bad as stick drift wich is a current gen issue. But to each there own

@EVIL-C yeah and alot of pepole are playing games that are 10yrs old or older thats a fact and thats the reason were seeing all these old remasters. 7th Gen is king and peak gameplay that still holds up. And retro blowing up right now. Pepole are going back to when games were fun. This gen is a complete disaster. Nobody even wants a ps6 and that should prove pepole rather play older games even if there on modern hardware

Hopefully it's a general retail release rather than a LRG numbered one but not holding my breath considering Tomb Raider 2013 ended up being LRG numbered.

@Deadringer80 Just cause you like PS3 more than modern games doesn't mean it's accessible & not old. Also never once heard of a PS5 crapping out entirely like that but I've definitely known many people who had their PS3 crap out or needed it repaired.

@Grumblevolcano What's the difference?

I really liked this game, so this is good news! I remember they even sent me a free shirt, still have it somewhere lol

never bought a limited run game. never will

@Deadringer80 No need to get defensive. It's also a fact that most audiences are in the current gen.

@babybilly The biggest thing is where you can buy it. Numbered releases can only be bought on the Limited Run website meanwhile those that aren't numbered can be purchased at plenty of different retailers.

This game is really bad! Extremely linear and pointless. It doesn't even seem like it was made by the creators of Champions of Norrath and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Even though the Sacred 2 Remaster is considered worse than the GOLD, it's still 10 times better than this Lord of the Rings.

This game is horrible!!

@LightSpirit They didn't say anything about the graphics and at no point did they 'skew your words' lmao. Also "60 FPS support, UI/UX optimisations, autosaves and additional save slots, gyro support and more" is not nothing, I'd even say more than 'barely anything' as you put it. Your argument is fundamentally inaccurate, the point @AussieMcBucket was making is that any game you don't already own is new to you. Fact of the matter is most people don't own a PS3/360 or aren't playing anything on it so this is a good thing. If you don't care about the upgrades or something then just don't buy it and move on.

@LightSpirit ALSO while we're on the topic I did manage to look at the steam reviews, 90% positive, plus it looks like the graphics can scale to 4K now. So what cool PS3 do you have that supports 4K/60fps?

@LightSpirit How could my comment be wrong? My words are correct as well. To someone that's never owned this before, it's brand new. And they're not selling it as a remaster/remake/reimagining/etc. It's called a "Legacy Edition" because they're mainly bringing it forward for modern platforms and audiences. But they also updated some things for accessibility with modern expectations. Which is pretty nice, I'd say. And it's being sold for 20 bucks. Not too shabby of an offer, in my eyes.

@yohn777 Yep. This.

Battle for Middle Earth 1 or 2. These are two of my favorite top 10 games. I wouldn't care which we got. I have to really do some work to get these to work on my laptop now.

Imagine Switch 2 mouse support and lan for up.to.4 people...I may not play another game for a few years.

@Aneira @Aneira No, they weren't all garbage. A few weren't so great, but this one wasn't bad at all. The combat was fun. The sound and story were both good...although I couldn't never finish the game due to.that bug. This game is definitely worth $20.

These are the LOTR games I found good:

These two are in my top 10 games of all time:

1. Battle for Middle Earth 2
2. Battle for Middle Earth

These were both really good:

3. Lego LOTR
4..LOTR:Conquest
5. War in the North

These were pretty good:

6. Return of the King (PS2)
7. The Two Towers (PS2)

And LOTR Online is actually really good. I haven't played in awhile, but I read where it's getting better and better and gaining more players. Sure the graphics are dated, but I still found it fun last year when I played it.

@babybilly There was a big article today on Google about ps5 failures. This repair store has stated that the PS5 is likely the worst generation for hardware fails. He said his shop takes in an average of 10 defective PS5 consoles every single day. These were the top reasons he listed:

Overheating
Broken HDMI ports
Liquid metal cooling drying up
SSD failure.

I was surprised he said it's the worst generation he has seen.
I don't have a PS5, but my son does. No issues except he has has stick drift in two controllers.

I'm old...lol. I had the original PlayStation. After about 18 months, I had to flip.it upside down to continue playing discs. It completely dies around the 2 year mark. Imagine my surprise when I had virtually every main console from the year of their launch...still working like new. Even my Atari 2600. My Atari I got in 1980 lasted decades more than my PlayStation 1.
I had a PS2 fail.on me and my friends PS2...quit working after less than 3 hours.
Now, I waited and finally got a ps3 when the super slim came out. I can't remember exactly what year I got it...but it had Uncharted 1,2,3 and Infamous 1 and 2. Maybe 2012ish? Anyway, no problems ever. Never even overheated. And two of my kids played it hours and hours every single day.

I guess you just never know...it's like rolling dice.

I will say that the PS5 ...all ps5s have an expiration date. And that's the date that SSD goes bad. It's soldered and you cannot replace it yourself. Same with Xbox series X. So, even if the liquid metal never dries up. And the Ram never goes bad. And it never overheats, when that SSD dies...so does the PS5.

@babybilly its been widely reported about the liquid metal dry spots causing the system to over heat and shut down simply by standing it vertically. And most recently the liquid metal is having some kind of chemical reaction that literally destroying the heat sink over a long period of time. This problem has been evolving for yrs now

@SuperEndriu why not

They literally dbl in value

Thats how I get free LRG games

So lame I didn't know earlier 😭 already bought the digital version so I could play it on vacation. I'm hoping they do a multi game physical release like a lot of their Star Wars games

It's about time LRG is doing something. Their Web site has been so scant as of late. And I think they're overdue for a summer showcase or two.

@Deadringer80 I only go for official releases.
limited run is expensive, harder to get. it feels a bit tacked on imo

amd numbered releases feel as if they are part of a monthly mag

@SuperEndriu there prices are in line with all physical released games and as for hard to find they literally have a 30 day open pre order for all there titles. Sure there's a wait but again these games wouldnt have a physical release any other way

@babybilly the yellow ring of death was affected mostly to the ps3 fat model's and corrected with slim and super slim the liquid metal issue is still unresolved 6 yrs later on ps5 and still getting worse with new reports of damaged heatsinks

@Deadringer80 Im.in europe so I pay extra. anyhow, I am cutting down on buying games anyway. got a mostly curated switch 1 collection of 160+ physical games, thats way past of what I aimed for. and 9 physical switch 2 games.

@LightSpirit No he wasn't how are you still confused? His point was any game you don't already own is new to you, this is a concept most children can understand. Also you can literally emulate any game for free, I don't really know why you felt the need to bring that up.

@LightSpirit I did read your original comment, but then their response was "But if you don't have it on PS3(!?), then it's a whole new game."
It sounds like you were the one misinterpreting seeing as you kept insisting they were saying it's literally a new game, when they never said that. You misunderstood their response and just decided that they meant something entirely different. Also nice job deleting your comments where you went off repeating ad nauseum that they were saying it was a literal brand new release (when they weren't 😉). Reading comprehension and revisionist history really is something, huh?
Peace dude hope you chill out ✌🏽

A box without hinges, (Game)key(Card), or lid. Yet golden treasure inside is hid.
Plus a Wayfinder's Ledger BOOKLET!

Back around 2013, Best Buy was trying to get rid of their War in the North stock at a steep discount. So I got the collectors edition of the game on PS3 and a little snow troll statue for less than $15 altogether. Such a steal for an alright game and some really neat LotR merchandise. It's pretty wild seeing NEW War in the North merchandise in 2026 😆

Not the LOTR game(s) I was hoping would get a physical edition...😮‍💨

A limited release for a game that got a regular release 15 years ago. Kinda stupid if you ask me

@Deadringer80 The PS3 is older now than the SNES was when the PS3 released. Saying a console is modern because it has an HDMI is like saying a car is modern because it has a seatbelt. It has been the standard for quite some time.

Its not as cool as the original collector's edition with the quiver.

@Fiskern No, but you have to understand, time went really slow when the SNES was released, and everything that happened once PS3 was released all happened last year. Everything. So, by that (very sound) logic, the PS3 is still very modern, because it was released, AT MOST, about 3 months before the PS4, which saw its release about a month or two before the PS5 was released, which was a month ago. The PS6 will release once I blink my eyes twice.

All of this is sound logic.

I'm pretty sure they'll release a collection like they did for their Star wars games once a few more come through

I'm assuming now once we get the new org chart following the formal establishment of Fellowship, we'll see the remains of Embracer shuffled into 3 cylos with Aspyr becoming part of Freemode, Tripwire and Demiurge moved under Plaion with Milestone (if only to give the racing studio so company as everyone besides the VR people are jumping ship), hiwever DestinyBIT's fate is still up in the air

@Deadringer80 None of my 12th graders have ever played a PS3. I was in high school when it came out, so I think it still feels relatively modern, but in the context of gaming hardware, it's not; it's as old now as the NES was when the Wii came out.

@Aneira You do realize the PS3 sold more than the 360, right?

@ElkinFencer10 There's no way that is true. You're telling me a bunch of 16-18 year olds haven't played a console that was one of the best-selling consoles when they were born & wasn't even replaced until they were almost in elementary school? And it's not like everyone buys a new console right away, so there were still plenty of people playing PS3's into the late 2010s. No need to lie to try to prove your point.

This really excited me as I both love 7th gen games and LotR games in general, and while I have it on PS3, I'd love to have it playable on Switch 2. I'm a collector, so I got super excited when I saw the announcement, but having just read the NL review, it sounds like an awfully buggy game to drop $40 for. I'm okay with minimal remastering that just improves resolution and frame rates, but introducing new bugs is unforgivable.

@Gabe250 Why would I bother lying to people on the internet I'll never meet? They were, at the oldest, four when the PS3 came out. Get a big group of millennials, and I'm sure you'll find some whose first console was an N64 or PS1.

@Gabe250

Only if you count sold units in Japan.
Obviously Xbox was not succesful there.

In the west Xbox 360 was more successful.

@Aneira What's your point? Why would you not count sales in Japan? It's a place in the world that exists. You don't get to just exclude one of the biggest gaming regions in the world because it suits your argument.

@ElkinFencer10 I still think you're full of it, but whatever.

@Gabe250

PS3 being hugely accessible in Japan doesn't diminish my point. If you're in Japan, good for you. In my region, everyone owned a 360. No one owned a PS3.

@Gabe250 You're welcome to think whatever you want. To quote someone I hate, facts don't care about your feelings.

@Aneira This is hugely important to take into account. If you asked someone in Japan how well the Saturn did, they'd say it was fairly successful. Globally, though, it was a complete disaster. Perspective matters and should be considered.

@Aneira Your region isn't the world or the only place that matters, but cool.

@Gabe250

I don't understand why you got offended. You might want to steer away from that or it will be a tough stroll down the road of life.

@Aneira What makes you think I'm offended? This is just talk on the internet. I have more important things to be offended about. Plus, I'm fairly certain my life has been a lot longer than yours, but thanks for the life lesson.

Instead of that foreword by Jed Brophy, I'd rather get a letter handwritten by Gandalf inviting me to Hogwarts.

@Gabe250
I'm not so sure you're older. I just never learned to act my age on the internet 😉

Anyway to give you a fair reply, I was under the impression that PS3 sold way less in Europe, which is my region. After looking up the numbers I can see that was not the case after all. So apparently I had more knowledge of other regions than my own. How does that make you feel? Turns out "my world" was not my own region after all. You were right after all, but your insult was misplaced.

@Aneira I'm 42 if you're curious. And thanks for the candid response.

@Gabe250
45. So at least right about one thing.

@Aneira True, but we both have plenty of life experience at this point, so I'd call your 3 years fairly negligible.

I do hope we get a Shadow of Mordor physical. (Might have to be just that as I think the file size would be too large otherwise.)
