I realize that everyone is obsessed with the shoot em ups on the TG-16, but what is the best game available on the system that isn't in this genre? I own Soldier Blade (Shoot em up obviously), Bonk's Revenge, and Neutopia II. I really didn't care too much for Bonk's Revenge even though I love platformers. The controls were difficult to manage, and made it frustrating while facing bosses. Neutopia II is quite fun, and I have enjoyed it thus far.
I prefer the first Neutopia. I got stuck on this one massive Neutopia II dungeon pretty early on, but the original had a steadier difficulty curve and I was able to complete it. Obviously, it's a bit of a step backward if you already have Neutopia II, but the differences are minor.
I want to second Devil's Crush and Ninja Spirit (excellent arcade port) and add Alien Crush and Bomberman '93 (which has a nice story mode).
On the Japanese side there's even more PC Engine goodness (no accident it was probably bigger than the Famicom and has the largest representation on the Japanese VC with 122 titles) with great arcade ports like Liquid Kids, an original sequel to Rainbow Islands called Parasol Stars and an update to the arcade game Super Dodgeball which adds a weird UFO-hunting story mode. Really if you're a fan of 80s Japanese arcade games then get yourself a Japanese Wii and get downloading!

I would totally get Military Madness if not for the fact that they've announced it's getting a reboot on WiiWare (of course if that turns out to be crap...).
Currently playing: Persona 4 Golden (Vita), Persona (PSP), Disgaea 3 (Vita), Yumi's Odd Odyssey (3DS), Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS).
Recently finished: Pokémon X (3DS), Persona 3 Portable (PSP), Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS), Virtue's Last Reward (3DS).

The best game on tg-16 is Dragons curse Wonderboy or whatever. It's probably one off my favourite games of all tome and it's a bona fide classic... Especially since it is one of the first games ever with ability to change character and hence their fighting skills/movement. At least it's the first one with interchangeable characters that is any good.
I've been on the fence about Dragon's Curse for a long while, Zane. I heard it compared to Zelda II, which is one of my favorite games of all time. It looks a bit slow though.

Same here. And given what I've seen, it looks like a really good remake.
@Sean: Military Madness is good but I'd hang around for the remake which, I agree, does look good.
I've got Bonk I and III but I've never been a big fan (3 is better than 1 though), Bomberman '93 is probably one of the best non-shmups titles for TG-16 alongside Bomberman and Devil's Crush.
Personally I hated Y's Book I & II - just couldn't get into it. I much preferred Secret of Mana on SNES. Alien Crush is good but pales in comparison to Devil's Crush, as for Splatterhouse: it's ok if you're into that sort of thing, but unless you want the horror theme I'd go for Streets of Rage II on Genesis (Megadrive) which lasts longer and is a hell of a lot more fun to play.
Wonderboy in Monsterland (Dynastic Hero) is much better than Dragon's Curse imo, but I imagine most people will disagree, along with my opinion of Y's Book..
I have heard such good things about Legendary Axe. I would love to try it if we could get a little more TG-16 support maybe it would happen. I also enjoyed Battle Royale. It's good simple multi-player fun and I would always win with the Executioner
