Pointer control works really well here; it's pretty sensitive but in a good way I've found. It could stand to use a couple of control customization options (jump on B and shoot on Z aren't the most intuitive, with the A button seemingly unused) and the sound is a little tinny, but this is otherwise essentially the same as it was on Dreamcast. Might as well be a VC title really.
So no choppy frame rate or compromises in quality due to heavy compression? About how long of a game is this? I saw one review of the Dreamcast version that claimed it lasts about 15 hours the first time. Would that be acurate? That's hard to believe. I can't even name a Wiiware game of that length.

I haven't done a side-by-side comparison, but let's face it, this game on Dreamcast relied more heavily on art than it did polygons. The framerate hasn't slowed down at all for me yet (only about an hour in though), and the only really noticeable compromise I can tell without firing up the old game is that the audio sounds like it has a low bitrate.
There's no indication that this is anything less than the full game, so yeah, it's mighty impressive. It shows its age in gameplay and structure but it's still a fun old-school shooter with a campy sense of humor.

Actually I can. The Phoenix Wright games, at least the first one lasted more than 20 hours for me.
I saw its video on the Nintendo Channel, and I have mixed feeling about it (the video, not the game). I love the narrated comic book telling of the events of the first game and how it leads into this second game (I hope that's the actual intro on the game), but it showed hardly any gameplay footage. Exactly what kind of game is this?
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

It's a 3rd Person Shooter with a lot of personality. Note that this is from back in the day when third-person shooters were good and not just a bunch of Gears of War rip-offs.
It's missing character shadows and some lighting effects, but on the other hand the textures look a bit sharper. It also runs at a constant 60 fps with no slowdown, which is nice.
Looks about the same really. The missing shadows in the Wii version doesn't seem like a huge deal. I hear the game is very hard. Is it throw your controller across the room hard?

From the Youtube video, it looks like they did a good job on the conversion despite the strict size limit. Are the pointer controls mandatory or is there also classic controller support?
The Graphics on this game look a bit like N64. I didn't think it should look so blocky. It's to be expected but I thought the Dreamcast was more powerfull than that. I wouldn't know since I never owned one though.

It was a PC game first and foremost, and PC games back then (and still today, to some extent) generally used lower polygon counts than high end systems of the time were capable of rendering, and focused mainly on textures and effects, because the developers still wanted the game to be playable on lower end hardware and the texture and special effect quality can always be lowered without sacrificing the gameplay, but you can't really remove any of the level geometry without changing the game. So that's why PC games (especially from that era) usually appear blockier than console games from the same period.
Sure am! I'm stuck at the level 4 boss though, I can't figure out how to damage him :/ Must have something to do with the switches that are all over the room, but you're stuck fighting him on a platform in the center and can't get over to the switches on the walls.
I'm still waiting on the review but it's taking so long. I may just cave in and get it anyway. Looks practically identical to the Dreamcast version.

so Zaphod, accc, Jon Wahlgren and anybody else playing the game: would you call it a "must buy" at this point? I'm having a hard time waiting for the review to come out... Anything 8 or above for this would be insta-download for me.

Review is in its final stages (proofing, double-checking, etc.), but it's looking good. There are some really frustrating parts re: Hawkins and platforming but there's a lot of fun to be had elsewhere.
Jeeze where's the review? Taking long enough isn't it?
