And come on, Lz. It's not THAT unlikely. Remember how many games came out between July and December, last year for 3DS and Wii U? And I think this has been in development longer than you guys think. As I recall, they were considering showing something last E3, but didn't want to compete for hype with LBW.
There are at least 5 games with a 2014 date JUST for the Wii U (X, Bayonetta 2, Yarn Yoshi, Smash Bros, and Hyrule Warriors). Why would they release Zelda during this period? There is no good reason.

First off, something not having a release date yet means nothing. Nintendo has been announcing stuff fairly close to launch, lately. While I agree that 2014 isn't likely, I don't feel we should put it out of our minds. Again, they were ready to show it off, last year. I'm simply pointing out that it may be closer than you think.
@Unca_Lz since when were Yarn Yoshi and X slated for 2014. I thought those were left pretty wide open for discussion, and given the sheer size X appears to be? I'd say Summer 2015 seems far more likely.

By that logic the new Zelda want be out till 2016 seeing as we haven't seen it yet and it will need about the same amount of work behind it as X.

Mmm~ How's that strawman taste?
I didn't say anything about when we'd first seen X. I said it doesn't look anywhere near complete, considering how absolutely massive it's gonna be. There no reason to even think that one will be out this year. But Zelda could've been shown off multiple times, now. It could very easily be near completion without us having any idea because, as you said, we haven't seen it. We don't know.
Wii U also doesn't need Zelda U this year. There is no good reason to release it this year. This is 99.999999999999% unlikely coming this year
Uhm... last I checked Wii U could use as many games as it can get, especially big name games. Releasing Zelda during holiday 2014 would only increase the number of sales for Wii U, which Nintendo does need in order for the Wii U to be successful. How do you know that there's a 99.9% chance it won't be released this year?

Pretty much this. The only logical argument I could see is that Nintendo wouldn't want to release Zelda and Smash Wii U so close together and risk hurting sales, but last year, they didn't seem to mind launching Super Mario 3D World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and Mario Party: Island Tour all on the same day. Just in time for Black Friday, too. Go figure.
And then 2 months later Iwata had to apologize for disappointing sales

and ignoring everything else, it's just a bad idea. Don't release Zeldas so close to each other on the same console, and spread releases apart so that they stop having unnecessary droughts.

Just because they're on two different systems doesn't mean they aren't competing for your limited pocket money. Most people that own a Wii U probably already have a 3DS, too. This is the exact reason the 3DS version of Smash is revealing so soon.
Also notice how nothing anyone is saying is actually combating my main point? You still have yet to show me how a 2014 release is 99.999999% unlikely. All I see is arguments as to why it wouldn't be the best idea--many of which contain flawed, assumed, or just plain wrong information. All I'm asking you to do is not put a holiday 2014 release out of the question. (Heck, I've been saying it'd be a 2015 release since January 2013, anyways.) I just think it's silly that everyone's so sure. Especially considering how shocked we all were that Smash 3DS would be releasing this Summer.
I personally wouldn't be too surprised if it was dated for late this year ! I would also be super excited ! People say they should space releases and it would be a bad idea but in reality mario kart & ssb aren't gonna fill a gap for big Nintendo releases ! Providing its not rushed imo the sooner they get it out the better for them & us
The only wii u zelda I expect at this years E3 is that dynasty warriors thing, be pleasantly surprised if zelda u was shown this year, if I was to put money on it wager that being shown at E3 2015 with a late 2015 release, with it being zelda however that slipping to early 2016 wouldn't be a shocker.
Not a chance Zelda-U comes out in 2014. I can't believe people still believe this.
I don't see why this is so impossible. Unlikely, sure. Impossible? No. Again, I believe we're forgetting that last year, a new Zelda title was announced early in the year, revealed along with a name at E3 and then released near the end. 2014 may be unlikely, but it's by no means impossible.

Well your point about whether the Wii U "needs" a Zelda U this year is up for debate. Personally, I think this year's releases are a bit unbalanced as the two major 1st party titles releasing this year are both essentially multiplayer games with little to no narrative beyond beating your buddies' a**es,in other words they serve very similar gaming purposes. I think you're right that we won't see Zelda this year, simply because it would seem Nintendo has so few releases lined up that they need to keep something big for 2015, which is a bummer. I think Ninty really counted on 3rd party support this time around and assumed their typical Quarterly game releases would keep people satiated, but now that the 3rd parties are gone it really makes the wait for the big N titles seem much much longer.
Edit: Hopefully Zelda goes in an art direction that strays away from the current style of most of the first party Wii U releases. As great as they all look, they also all look fairly similar at a glance.

Could Retro Studios be Working on the New Zelda for Wii U?
By Stephen C Barrett, 2 days, 4 hrs ago
While we know that Eiji Aonuma and his team at EAD are hard at work on Nintendo's next Legend of Zelda console title for the Wii U, could Retro Studios be lending a hand with some of the development duties for what some have called Nintendo's most ambitious title yet?
It's no secret that many a fan has speculated such a theory before, and just recently in an interview Retro neither confirmed nor denied what they were working on currently, even when asked point blank about a possible Zelda project. But while this is all based on past rumors, when aligned properly, there are signs that point to such a theory being a possibility.
Back in 2012, rumor had it that Retro was tasked with developing engines for Nintendo's then brand new console, as well as helping other developers implement them. Supposedly, even Epic Games was very impressed with what they saw.
If true, could the fruits of this labor be utilized in the Wii U's upcoming Zelda title? The game was rumored to be the most massive undertaking the company has ever done, both in cost and manpower. Hundreds of people are said to be involved with the project, so having a triple "A" studio like Retro involved is certainly possible.
Adding further weight to this possibility is the fact that the two biggest selling Zelda titles of all time - Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess – were done with a more "western friendly" graphical approach than other polygonal Zelda titles such as Wind Waker or Skyward Sword. Having Retro, an American based company with some immensely talented artists, handle some of the art assets, or possibly the basic engine, may not be too far fetched.
Lastly, while Retro has confirmed that they only take on one major project at a time, they also stated that they do "have a little bit of extra bandwidth to help out other entities at Nintendo", such as their contributions to Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS.Not to mention that many have speculated that Tropical Freeze may have largely been finished well before its launch in February 2014 and that the delay from holiday 2013 was a marketing tactic to give another worthy platformer - Super Mario 3D World - the holiday spotlight. So what else has Retro been doing? Could they be publically downplaying their contributions regarding other Nintendo projects?
I'm quite sure that at E3 2014, Nintendo – be it via an official conference or a Nintendo Direct – will shed some light on the status of Zelda U and what Retro is up to, but I for one would love to see an epic launch trailer for the Wii U's Zelda game with an intro stating "Nintendo EAD… and Retro Studios present…" and I have a strong feeling that I'm not alone.
