How important are they and how are the figures used with the game.
The figures aren't needed for the game but they do add to it. You can play the game just fine without them. The figures just add a character you can level up basically. Without a figure you will have to select from pre-set characters with pre-set levels and you unlock more/stronger ones as you play. (If I remember correctly)
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
So I got Block Drop U cause it was on sale and heard it was made in Construct 2, which I am interested in learning. While the gameplay is interesting, I cannot recommend the game. I hope there is more free content on its way. I felt the last levels were just starting to get interesting and then it stopped. I am disappointed I spent money on it.

Runner2 and Shovel Knight have definitely been my favorite eShop games. The latter doesn't have all that much replay value yet but when the updates start to roll in, I'm sure I'll be returning to it. Runner2 is one I've been playing on and off forever now.
I feel I should recommend Scram Kitty. It's a really cool and unique little shooter, seems like one of the crazy ideas someone at Treasure (aka the Gunstar Heroes and Sin and Punishment guys) would make, and it's really good if you like games with weird, unique, semi-difficult to master mechanics.
GUACAMELEE! Super Turbo Championship Edition
Awesome beat'em up adventure gameplay. Very detailed graphics and great soundtrack. It's really fun, so I'm on my second playthrough (in co-op with a friend on hard mode to get all costumes).
MASTER REBOOT
This is the first-person psycho horror adventure people should have bought instead of The Letter. This one is balancing exploration, puzzling and platforming just right. Thick atmosphere, organic light and shadow effects, and a fresh and interesting storyline with extra plot secrets to find. The cutscenes aren't on the same standard but they are easily forgiven for the great core game.
Teslagrad
New magnet physics need some practice but once you're in, you will want to see it through to the end. It probably has the best 2D animations of any Wii U eShop game to date. And it's probably the game that gets the BEST BOSS FIGHTS-award this year.
SteamWorld Dig ~A Fistful of Dirt~
This 6-8 hour digging platformer/adventure is full of replay value. You never know what the randomized main caves do to your game: sometimes it combines assets to make really nice challenging parts. That's what I like so much about it. Has also very nice audiovisuals.
Knytt Underground
I know this one is older, but I just realised that this game has an outstanding psychedelic soundtrack that alone is worth the money. I never really listened to it as I was playing on the GamePad, because it is so mellow and deep. But trying this on my tv, with my bass speakers on my soundsystem, this opened up a whole new world to me. It's very personal, but for me it has the best soundtrack of all Wii U eShop games.
I have never played a Metroid game before. Which game out of Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid would be the best game to start on?
they are both very good but Super Metroid is a far better Metroid game.
If I had to choose between these two I'd definitely start with Fusion.
Because if you start with Super Metroid and love its non-linearity, Fusion is going to be a meh experience.
Whereas if you start with Fusion you get a very good game that will get you acclimated to "some" Metroid elements - and it only gets better and better from there.
Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...
Here are my current recommendations of really great eShop games that have released this year (based on the EU eShop availability of today):
Scram Kitty and His Buddy On Rails
Teslagrad
Armillo
Pushmo World
Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition
Art of Balance
Child of Light
Steamworld Dig
Stick it to the Man!
Swords & Soldiers HD and XType Plus are also solid games, but IMO they are not on the same level as the ones above.
Neat.
I'd also add Squids Odyssey and Master Reboot to the good ones,
and FlowerWorks HD and Color Zen to the solid ones that are worth their low asking price.
Guacamelee is on sale for both regions with a very tempting 33% off - I recommend anyone who's into 2D beat 'em ups and non-linear games to get a copy. It's like if you put Battletoads in an early 2000s Castlevania game map but with perfect controls and colourful paper-mache graphics. It's good.

Squids Odyssey will be on sale later today for $5.99, but I'm not sure which version to get, anyone who has played either version or both (Wii U and 3DS) versions, which version do you think I should get?

I only have the Wii U version, which looks fantastic in HD. However, this is a title that actually might suit a portable gaming style better (=it's easier to pick up the game and just play couple of rounds).
I have heard good things about Squids Odyssey but I heard a deal where if I pick it up on one system I can get it on the other for free. Is this deal still going on? Is there a particular system I have to buy it on first?

@DefHalan I remember that deal (you had to buy it on the 3DS to get the Wii U version free) and it was only for EU or something and not for NA, if it had been for NA too I would probably of already bought Squids Odyssey.
I recommend Squids Odyssey, as basically it's RPG elements and roundbased battles are like Fire Emblem which I love. It's adding its own unique twist and It's a rather long game (ca. 90 levels, 30hours) with lots of replay value and even a second quest doubling its content.
It also has nice graphics and music.
The 3DS version has framerate issues when the battlefield is full of units, but it has a great use of stereoscopic 2D layers.
The Wii U version is the same but with always smooth HD graphics.
