Topic: What Inventive Games Would You Like to See Nintendo Make?

I love the Wii U and have thoroughly enjoyed the strong lineup of games that have come out for it, but let's be honest... When you look at most of the flagship titles (with the exception of Wonderful 101) that have come out for it thus far and even the titles that are on the horizon, it's mainly either sequels or games that follow an already-pre-established formula. For instance,
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD => HD Remake
New Super Mario Bros. U => Sequel to New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Mario 3D World => Similar formula to Super Mario 3D Land
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze => Sequel to Donkey Kong Country Returns
Pikmin 3 => Sequel to Pikmin

By contrast, the Gamecube probably featured one of the most innovative lineup of games within Nintendo's established franchises. Take for example:
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker => Completely revamped art style
Super Mario Sunshine => Water mechanics and entirely new setting
Metroid Prime => Made Metroid an FPS and it worked beautifully
Not to mention Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion, which were entirely new IPs

To clarify, I'm not saying Nintendo hasn't innovated in their Wii U titles, but I'd argue that it's been a few years since they've done something incredibly risky with their core franchises on consoles. I guess what I wanted to ask is, what would you like to see Nintendo do with their franchises that innovates and might even lean towards the more crazy side of things?

Games I'm playing: Hotline Miami 2, Smash Wii U, GTA V, Dying Light, Resogun

Recently completed games: Hotline Miami, P.T., Shovel Knight

Games I want soon: Zelda U, The Witcher 3, Axiom Verge, Everyone's Gone to the Rapture

I'm fine with anything that's not boring, but if I had to choose I'd like a game with something crazy and mind blowing that makes little to no sense.

I think Nintendo is putting too much on the 3DS from what I see. I know it sells great, but if people can just buy a 3DS for a Nintendo fix, nobody will buy a Wii U. I believe strongly that some upcoming 3DS games should have been shifted to WiiU if possible.
Back on topic with the OP, your argument makes sense, however don't forget that those games were new because there were less games at the time. Now there are so many unique games out there that it is harder than before to create new ideas which are unique. I think, and hope, they are doing the best that they can, but there's just so much going on that a Wow factor is becoming more difficult to deliver to consumers.

The 3DS is older, and game development takes a long time (specially since Nintendo refuses to release games with known bugs). Also, the 3DS versions are kind of "first-step" platform for some ideas that are fully realized in the Wii U version (MK7 to MK8, 3D Land to 3D World, Smash Bros 3DS to Smash Bros U). In the case of Tropical Freeze, I think it was partly used as a "get-to-know-the-Wii U" project for Retro.

Nintendo has stated that Miyamoto is working on a new IP. And X might be seen as a new Nintendo IP?

Tropical Freeze was inventive. Super Mario 3D World was inventive. You don't have to be original to be innovative

A game that isn't plastered with Mario's face would be pretty novel, some sort of not Mario game, or maybe that's just too crazy.

i would actually like to see nintendo release a new toy, yes a physical toy, again. thats what they did before they got into video games, like the hanafuda cards, that electric bongo thing and more. i believe it was shigeru who said he always wanted to create something like a rubiks cube.

Honestly, I read about one of Dreamcast's games called Segagaga. I would like to see Nintendo do something like that with all of their franchises. Maybe something like Captain Rainbow
