So this topic is more aimed at the UK market but others are welcome to jump in I just cannot comment on what Nintendo is doing in your country as I dont know lol.

So here in the UK Nintendo does not seem to do any advertisement what so ever.... Also our last remaining major retail store Game.co.uk does not seem to stock WII U Console and games in their retail stores they only have a limited selection on their online store.

Also bare in mind that you can now buy a Xbox One with fifa new for £325 in the UK and a WII U Deluxe is £260 with a game come Christmas there will be more deals on the console so the price of an xbox may end up the same as a WII U.

So with no TV ads or external ads or no store shelves showing of their wares what does Nintendo need to do to sell consoles?

I was honestly curious to why you're so concerned?

Its not concern as I stated I find it an interesting topic this is the first real Christmas since the launch of PS4 and Xbox one so they will really be pushed this holiday season and those campaigns normally start around November in the UK as Christmas is our next big holiday period.

So I thought it would be interesting to discuss what people thought Nintendo needs to do to sell WII U's as doing nothing would be insane, If you don't find the topic interesting then don't post....

I was in Game yesterday and they were stocking both Wii U consoles and games and the Xbone wont be the same price as a WiI U before Xmas.

I think the latest gen has proven that the best way to sell a console in Europe is to bundle it with a football game.
Do you remember when Sony bundled the PS3 with FIFA13? The thing was literally flying off the shelves.
So as much as I'd love WiiU to destroy the competition this season, my bet is on the console bundled with the football game.
In Europe first you get the football game, then you get the power, then you get the women.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

Do Nintendo still produce the Wii U Basic consoles in the UK? If so they need to make it this price with a game if they want to shift a few unites this Christmas in the UK.

Nintendo really need to start advertising as at the moment on UK TV all you see lately is Forza or Destiny ect. . Like a few of my cousins who are aged between 6 and 15 all of them no word of lie own a 3DS or a 2DS. Yet all want PS4's because they want to play FIFA ect. I asked a few of them what about the Wii U? They know what it is but none of them knew what games where out for the system other than Mario Kart.

Nintendo needs to neutralise the IS threat next week, instantly and single handedly, and only say "nintendo" when they're done. I bet they'd sell loads of wii U systems.

I dont think they produce the basic version hence you can pick it up cheap online if in stock, Game back in July sold the basic version £99.99 New and sold out within a few days and have not got it back in stock since.

Yeah completely agree they need to market the games for WII U and the console but none of this sitting on sofa with dad playing mario Kart or kirby as they does not sell consoles here.

The argument that parents will buy Wii U for their kids is false aall the thrid party kids games that they want are on the PS4 and Xbox and normally are a better version, its a better investment for a parent to buy a console they know in a few years there kids will still be interested in playing as the game library covers all ages.

This is what I think Nintendo will have a hard time with they need to appeal to people outside the Nintendo fan base but how I don't know... and when they seem to be doing nothing it makes it harder for them (ND does not count as its aimed at the current owners/fan base)

You're joking?! I've not lived in the UK for 2 years, but are you seriously telling me Game / Gamestation, or whatever they're called now doesn't sell Wii U games and console, period? That's crazy!

As for what they need? An image change. AS mentioned by your good self, that really dumb ad of people, usually Z list celebrities like Ant and Dec, playing the Wii U or 3DS is probably more damaging than anything else. Give adverts with just gameplay footage of titles such as Mario Kart 8 and the up and coming Smash Bros.

A Wii U console with a free copy of Smash Bros U, or even better, at an even cheaper price, would hit home. Ultimately, they need what it's always come down to: games that people want to buy and play.

They have very limited WII U titles in stock my two local stores have 1 shelf for WII U titles and a few accessories no consoles or pro controllers in stock as they don't have the room to store them I was told when talking to one of the guys working there who also suggested I traded my WII U in for store credit..... But someone above posted there local store had them so Im guessing the larger game stores have consoles in stock.

I'm not sure the TV adds showing people playing the games is a good idea show more game footage maybe start with a shot of them sitting down holding pro controllers then playing and they need to stop focusing on the gamepad....

I honestly think showing people playing with pro controllers games like Bayonetta 2 and Smash and maybe a few older titles like Zombi U or even a COD game would help people get past the gamepad gimmick mentality.

But Nintendo adverts seem to go dad sits down with small boy or girl plays Nintendo land or just dance taps around on the gamepad which they hold in every shot , or the same setup with a mario game.

The one closest to me does as much as they can to make it look as if they don't stock Nintendo at all.

Last shelf but the bit not facing the door so you cannot see it and there is no label on the other part to show that is where the Nintendo stuff is.

Also it is 95% used. (Other 5% is full RRP - i.e £40 for a 3DS game - £50 for a Wii U game).

The UK has always been notoriously anti-Nintendo. It's sort of a lost cause. Nintendo couldn't even compete in the UK against SEGA alone back in the early 90s, let alone stronger competition from Microsoft and Sony (the UK is the only place in the world besides USA where someone cares about the XB1).

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

They do still sell Wii U things. They just hide them in the corner of the store. At least my local stores do. I live near 2 GAME stores (they took over GameStation and changed them all to GAME about 2-3 years ago). Both have changed the stores around so one side of the store has Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. The other side has PS4/PS3/Vita and PSP games. In the middle they have a big space for Nintendo DS,Wii, Blu-ray movies,PC games and retro games. Then at the end of the rack a small space for Wii U. Even the pre owned phones and ipods get more shop space than Wii U. In fact even the Pre-owned Skylander and Disney Infinity figures have a bigger space than the Wii U.

All walls just have PlayStation or Xbox Deals splatted around the place. It really is a depressing sight for Wii U sadly. They have demo unites for 3DS/2DS/Vita/Xbox One/PS4 yet noting for Wii U.

The UK wasn't anti Nintendo in the SNES/Megadrive days it was about 50/50.

The NES Nintendo charged twice as much as Sega and didn't even bother fixing it for PAL. (Sega did about 1 in 5)

The Gameboy did fine.

NES £50-60
Master System £30 or £10 for the card games put onto cartridge.
SNES £40 - Odd game at £50.
Gameboy - Most games at £25 some at £30.
Megadrive - Most games at £35 some at £40.

PAL NES was a garbage product. (Overpriced and not even working properly).

Change the English people. They obviously have a terrible taste in games. It's been shown time and again. Better in Japan and U.S.

umm release Smash bros for Wii U, that will probably sell a couple of Wii Us.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

In my GAME store the Xbox and Playstation get a whole wall, with the Nintendo section being a market style stall

Mind you, around my area in stores the Wii U seems to be picking up steam. Not by loads, but I'm starting to see more and more people buy games for it, and even a few consoles. That didn't happen at all before.

Plus an employee at GAME says the same thing as everyone else. The Wii U has a terrible name and is causing confusion.
