@Gioku exactly all my non-nintendo fan college friends think the WiiU is only a controller for the WiiU or some weird RAM expansion! they never understand when I try to explain they say "so it's just a small upgrade not a whole new console, I mean even the name is the same and it plays Wii games" I got tired of explaining and decided to ignore when they say that....
This is my point exactly, this is why store reps NEED to have the proper knowledge so they can explain the difference with not only the two new systems but also with the old Wii system.
Kid asked parents for a Wii U for christmas and parents get a Wii system because they don't or didn't know that the Wii U is a new system. That kid will be disappointed and the parents will feel bad. How us that a good situation?
Actually when he came over I was talking about the PS4 and what I liked about it. I wasn't being particularly bias to Nintendo. He didn't know I even mentioned the Wii U. So he didn't have a reason to defend any system. The father even asked about the Wii U and we was giving a short answer and no more info on the system. I'm not bias to just nintendo as I have always had PlayStation. The Wii U was better on my wallet but I feel its also a fantastic system.
But you clearly state in your original post that you were selling them on a Wii U. Defending wasn't the best word for me to use, as it doesn't sound like it really played out that way. If you were selling them on a Wii U (like you said you were), don't you think it's his job to make sure they clearly understand the PS4, and help them make an educated choice? Since you were selling them on the Wii U, should he not come say "Don't rule out the PS4 yet guys, it has some good qualities of it's own." I wasn't there, but from what you're posting it sounds like he was doing his job by trying to point out how awesome the PS4 is after you tried to sell them on a Wii U. Where's the problem?
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.
@SCAR392: Except for, you know, the people who think the Gamepad is just an add-on for the Wii... or who think it's another Nintendo handheld (I have talked to people who thought both of these things).
How, though? Do these same people know the difference between an iPhone 4S and 5C?
I'm not completely sure how anyone can not notice, if they are actually thinking about video games. Like, if you just absolutely don't handle electronics, EVER, then MAYBE I'd be able to understand.

HE didn't even know I mentioned the Wii U. I thought I said that. He never mentioned the Wii U and barely talked about the Xbone, it was mainly about the PS4. I was selling them the Wii U, they liked what they heard and I was also giving them good info on the other two systems and pointed out the pros and cons of all three systems. Like you said, you weren't there but if you were you would have noticed his bias and lack of info.
@SCAR392: I actually had someone ask me "so what's the difference between the 3DS and Wii U?" I told him that, first of all, one of them is a home console, and the other one is a handheld. He was amazed to find out that the Gamepad was just the controller...

Well, I guess being amazed that it was JUST the controller was good. Still though... I don't get how you are finding these people that don't know the difference between Wii and Wii U.
The way we perceive electronics would have had to have changed drastically in order for someone who handles electronics on a daily basis to be confused.
@SCAR392: They're everywhere, man. If you hang out with people who aren't gamers, this is what you find... I had somebody confused as to why 3DS games don't work on a regular DS...

That's not exactly true... People's interest in certain things make them ignorant to other things that should seem common knowledge to you and me. Can you say that you have the same knowledge that someone who is interested in let's say cars or motorcycles have?

I guess that's a somewhat valid point. I don't think it's so black and white, though.
Electronics are different than cars, here. That's why I asked if those people knew what an iPhone S and 5C are. That's a phone, but there's not really any way to assume a Wii U is a handheld.
I feel like this subject is somewhat falling apart, but even I can tell what differences in other gadgets are. If you showed me a 2 car engines, I'd probably be able to point out which one is better. It's common observation.
The only way someone would be able to "trick" or "confuse" me is if they were intentionally trying to. i.e. having a V-6 with some enhancers vs. a V-8, sans enhancers(I would notice a v-8 and v-6 difference, but other components could end up making the v-6 work better than without said components)Some cars can perform better as a v-4 vs. a v-6 based soley on efficiency.
I guess it's possible that people don't comprehend, but that would mean they literally have no idea what any device can do, really.
EDIT: BTW, I'm not saying I'm more intelligent than anyone. That's why I'm saying perception and observation would be the key factors, here.
@Scar392 at least you understand where I'm coming from. People are very ignorant to the things that don't interest them. Like for me for instance, I'm ignorant to politics because I have no interest in it. My wife is ignorant to motorcycles because she thinks their death traps but I love them. So my original thought still exsist, sales reps need to be able to properly educate those of us who are ignorant to it. But that's just my opinion.
@SCAR392: Really, though, whether you understand how the Wii U could be mistaken for a handheld or not doesn't matter, because there are people who think that way, unfortunate as that is. I really think @SofaKing is bringing up some good points.
Spoiler alert: Many Best Buy employees get paid near minimum wage and get very little training on what they're actually selling.
That's no excuse for their not knowing what their selling. There is an internet out there full of info they can use. Train yourself and maybe you'll become more then a sales rep... Maybe you'll get a raise and maybe, just maybe you will get promoted. I mean come on and take pride in what you do.
P.S. also when your a sales rep who says right off the bat your a gaming geek, I'd expect you to live up to that and give me proper info.

Ya, it's pretty sad. I usually know more about what I'm buying than they do.
It's usually like, "Oh, we got this this, too". I'm like, "I know". Or people that are learning how to work the cashier. Sometimes I have to help them figure out the cashier.
EDIT: @SofaKing
Definately. Sometimes there are clerks that really know what they're talking about, but other times they just have no clue. A sales rep at Best Buy told my bro and mom that Windows 8 wasn't BC with Windows 7. I told them it was(which it is) and they decided to believe the sales rep over me, until I told them to Google it and they found out for themselves.

How do you know he didn't hear you? You said you were drawing their attention, and that a crowd was gathering. It would only take a few seconds to realize that because of what you were saying people were leaning towards a Wii U. What exactly was he telling them? I'm going off of a lot of assumptions because your original post wasn't quite clear on what he was telling everyone. Was he just saying "its an upgraded wii buy the ps4, buy the ps4, buy the ps4!"or was he actually talking about the overall quality of the system? I mean, both systems are quality by all means, but if someone is in my store selling people on a Wii U, I'm sure gonna make sure they know they have options.

As a salesperson, he has to answer the customer's questions. THAT'S his job. Not necessarily selling the most expensive item, but helping the customer with what they want help with.
It's just as frustrating as going to one of those GameStops where they pester you with other deals, pre-orders, registering, or whatever when you just want to buy a game and go home.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
I also just love how the "U" at the end of Wii U just magically throws people off. What the hell? Seriously?
"Oh, I guess since the Wii part is the same, it's just an add-on."
So the Xbox and the Xbox One didn't confuse people? Bull.
I can understand the PlayStation difference because they number those, but really? No one is that dumb.
I guess they have a hard time buying milk because one is 1% and another is 2%, but what about Skim? I guess they're all white, so they're the same thing! Or maybe getting chocolate confuses them, too. A Toblerone and a Hershey bar are both chocolate! Guess they're the same!!
