You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm expecting Avatar to show up...somehow.
Same here. Since Robin can use all the weapons, I think they could pull of a move set for him/her no problem. I want Chrom in pretty badly but if it came down to a different non-sword wielding character from FE, (of the ones I've played at least) Robin doesn't seem to farfetched.
I would much prefer that to another blue-haired sword-wielder, honestly. Nothing against Chrom, but it's pretty redundant to limit the series that much.

I'd say we will get 45 playable characters.
There are 15 Veterans from Brawl left to get revealed. Snake, Ivy and Squirtle get the cut. 12 left that all of them are most likely be in.
I guess we will get at last 3 more newcomers. That will compensate the cuts.
So 30 we know of, + 15 more = 45 ...
I'm not sure about all Veterans tho. I've got a bad feeling about Wolf, Lucas and R.O.B.. But that might just be me. ^^
I had the same feeling for Ike. So.. Everything is possible.
If 1,2 or all of them get the cut I hope some more newcomer will take their spot. :3

Sakurai said that the same amount of characters from Brawl will be in the new one so 35.
So who do you guys think is gonna join the roster as newcomers? Whose gonna be revealed at E3?
I still think Palutena is extremely likely. I feel certain there will be a Namco rep and no Konami rep, so either Pac-man or Lloyd Irving. I'm still really expecting Chrom, despite what many people are saying in here. I'm also really expecting another DK character. King K. Rool is still my favorite, but I could easily see Funky or Dixie being playable, instead.
As for E3 reveals? Chrom and Palutena and the Namco rep. I also expect a ton of veteran reveals, including Captain Falcon, Ganondorf, Falco, Metaknight, Ice Climbers, Wario, Ness, and Jigglypuff.
If some of these don't get revealed at E3, there's a good chance they won't be revealed at all and will remain secret characters until unlocked. The best examples of this, I think, are Jigglypuff, Metaknight, and Captain Falcon.
I also think Wolf, Lucas, and maybe the new DK rep I'm expecting to see will remain secret until they're unlocked.
Hmmm... Realistically... I only see Ice Climbers, Falcon, Ganon, Mr. Game & Watch, and Wario coming back. Maybe Falco? MAYBE on him.
I can't imagine Ness coming back...
Ok, there's NO WAY they're cutting Jigglypuff OR Ness. They may not be 100% guaranteed, but they've been in every single Smash Bros. to date. They're not going anywhere.
Falco and Wolf are also extremely likely to return because like it or not, the series dropping in popularity doesn't mean the characters did, too. There are tons of Wolf mains and Falco fans running around to ensure that they still have a place in the new Smash.
And why would they even consider cutting Metaknight? He's practically Sakurai's favorite addition to Brawl. Why do you think he was so OP? Sakurai wanted to convey how powerful Metaknight is supposed to be. I really don't think we'll be seeing very many cuts AT ALL.
Besides, I reiterate that Sakurai has stated that he WANTS TO BRING BACK AS MANY CHARACTERS AS POSSIBLE.
For that reason, I could even see ROB returning. The only cuts I consider even likely, at this point, are Ivysaur and Squirtle for over-representation of Poke'mon and Snake for over-representation of third parties.
45 actually seems like a low-ball estimate, at this point.

Yeah, Wario's overdue for a reveal. But then, so was Yoshi. I guess we'll just have a lot of characters being revealed far later than we would've liked. X3
Seriously, though, he'll probably make it in as well but probably an unlockable character. My guess is the vast majority of new characters are going to be hidden due to the surprise factor, while guys like Ike, Toon Link, and Diddy are not that surprising. I'd be shocked if we got 3 or more new characters before the 3ds version. Probably 1 big reveal on e3 and then pacman too, while several other vets being confirmed.

I still can't see the appeal in Pac other than his iconic status, but more importantly, I could definitely see them using up a lot of the E3 time talking about Ganondorf's new moveset, as I can't see any other reason for him to still be unconfirmed. I mean, he's pretty much guaranteed a spot for being the main Zelda villain.

Given the galaga enemies and the rally x flag, I'm almost certain he's in, especially since it looks like Snake could possibly be out. Ganondorf could be a character that would be great to cover at e3 IF they change his moveset. If he's like toon link, don't even bother showing him.
