I'm extremely curious as to why the Splatoon team didn't even included shortcuts for textual communication? That seems totally within Nintendo's style, it's relatively safe, and it helps the team based aspect better.
Even the Testfire Demo has such shortcuts...
Oh I didn't know. The way the developers talked about it, it sounded like there was absolutely no communication.
It isn't much, but depending on your language/region it would say something along the lines of "come on" (NA/Japan) or "to me" (Europe) for up on the d-pad and down is "booyah" (NA) or "Nice/cool" (Japan/Europe).
Oh I was thinking of combat based shortcuts. So like "cover me" or "I got this"
They really could've done that. Heck, they still CAN do that. There's two more directions on the D-Pad no one's using. I mean "To me" is combat based, but what if I don't want people helping me? What if I'm good? What if all three of the opponents I see are facing away from me and I want the others to go take the top of Saltspray Rig, instead? After playing the Global Testfire, I've gone from being vaguely indifferent about the lack of voice communication to being slightly miffed. This game really could benefit from it.
The contents are a secret, but...I really want people to finish single-player mode and check it out. I think that when we got carried away, like Nogami-san talked about earlier, we put most of it in that ending.
What I have read from early testers, all seem to agree that the ending of the single player is something special worth looking forward to. (Luckily, I have not read any spoilers of what it is.)

Preach it. Even before the demo I felt communication would help alot, and after playing the demo I just felt even more strongly that being able to relay information would make the game much better

OK, I always thought you knew everything, but now I think there are a dozen people using jariw. Thank you, all of you?, for not giving away spoilers, I'm still on the fence - 90% in - but just knowing single player actually has a story mode at all and it isn't just like the beta tutorial helps. I really liked the story in DeBlob though most people probably don't remember there was one.
OK, my question for anyone, seems like there is a lot of this game still to come, spread out over the summer, have they said decisively either way or not whether it will be free? amiibo have always been touted as just being "a bonus" but three 4x5 grids worth of missions and gear sounds more like a part of the game or paid DLC then say Captain Toad pics popping up occasionally or skins in MK8. I don't want to pay $60, maybe another $35 for amiibo, and then another $20 for a Season Pass in June for the July and August components of the game. I wouldn't worry until I saw the prices on those SSB costumes. Paying for playable characters is one thing, but they got carried away real fast w/ all those costume prices I think.
Also, though more a curiosity than important, any word yet on other amiibo working in the game? I really thought gold and silver Mario would unlock that color paint, or F.L.U.D.D. So many weapons in this they could let you unlock those w/ other amiiob. Or since we need money to buy things maybe random denominations like Hyrule Warriros does? Besides amiibo supposedly being a "Bonus" and not a paywall amiibo were supposed to be good in many games, yet so far I only see Splatoon amiibo working in Spaltoon, no other game, and no other amiibo working in Splatoon. That sounds just like Skylanders and Disney Infinity, and Nintnedo said amiibo were better than those.
BTW I've only read the last few pages, sorry if these questions have been addresed earlier, I'll read more when I have more time, lunch break is over.
Someday we'll find it

@rjejr It's all free. And the amiibo DLC challanges are just regular story missions with a different weapon, they're not completely new levels or anything like that. Completing the missions unlocks a special costume. So there's just three costumes you cannot get without amiibo.
The Nintendo Direct said it was a free update, so there is that. I hope they add more amiibo support later on, and that they make more amiibo of other characters. Besides your Squid sisters, Judd and the shopkeepers could make great amiibo. Guess I just love the character designs.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Some UK citizens apparently already get messages that their Splatoon copies are now shipping (early).
And some US stores have an in-store demo now (with the tutorial + the start of the single player campaign).
@rjejr The Splatoon amiibo functionality is totally optional IMO. You get some extra replay value of some old single-player levels, and the headgear/clothes/weapons/etc unlockables to the amiibo have an "exclusive" look, and you can unlock an additional retro game to play in the lobby (instead of the Squid Jump game).
I should also mention that there's a reward for completing the single-player campaign (that is not connected to amiibo).
Thanks everybody - both about the DLC being free and playing w/o the amiibo. If I don't spend $35 on the amiibo maybe I can pick up S&S2 for $20 @sinalefa

Don't forget about the exclusive weapons!
Has there been any confirmation that these weapons actually have different stats than regular weapons? Or is it just a variation; a regular weapon with a different skin?

I haven't seen any confirmation on this, but even if it's a skin, I doubt it's 100% identical to another weapon set. They could swap the sub weapons (and reskin them as well) to make it a unique set.
EDIT: I just read that the sub weapon and the special weapos of the amiibo splat charger is the same as for the normal splat charger. So it might be only a reskin after all.
I can confirm. Splatoon has shipped to me early, in the UK. Here is a pic with me holding my copy:
Question - Will the servers be live?! Also, Nintendo won't pull a Microsoft and brick my console/remove my online if they detect a game 6 days too early on my console.... right?
(Sorry, not hugely au fait with such technicalities)

I thought the dispatch email yesterday was a mistake. Guess not!

Congrats!!! Regarding the servers: just test! Perhaps the prerelease version runs on the real servers and then you'll have online already? Nintendo will not do anything if things ship too early (lots of European MK8 users got their copies early).
If the online servers aren't up yet, you can play all the Octo Valley stuff in the meantime, and get all the Sunken Scrolls.
EDIT: I just read that the prerelease players (reviewers, youtubers, etc) will get a retail copy replacement and they will all start on level "unfresh" again. So the real online servers will probably not open until release day.

Makes sense as Nintendo did say Splat Zones wouldn't be available at launch (even if you're level 10) but it's available to everyone level 10+ with a review copy.
