Topic: Restore points ruining my gameplay!!!!

It seems like once I create a single restore point in any game, I must constantly create them every couple minutes or I screw myself over if I accidentally hit "load restore point". I lost several hours of Zelda: Link to the Past gameplay because I accidentally hit "restore load point" which I created hours earlier. It overrode the 5 or 6 auto save points that were created each time I died. I figured it would start me at the latest save point regardless of whether I created it or if the game created it automatically. It sucks getting so far in the game then losing everything because I didn't "create new load point" every 5 minutes. I've tried resetting the game and Turing off the Wiiu with the hopes of picking up where the game last auto saved. No luck. This is so annoying that I've abandoned playing this game. I've found that feature to be more annoying than helpful. Is there something I'm over looking about this function?

If they bother you just don't use them.

The games have their original saving methods available too.

Pretty much this. They're there to use, but they aren't mandatory. Plenty of people get by without them.

I use restore points since I find them useful in games that lack a proper save system (like Zelda II), plus they save time in many cases.

Currently playing: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Famicom Detective Club: The Missing Heir (Switch)

I get it can be convenient in some games, but the point I was making is once you create one restore point, you must continually creating them. If you created only one restore point 10 minutes into a game, you could play another 20 hours and it would override any auto saves the game created if you hit "load restore point". It would take you right back to the beginning. It is very easy to "accidentally " load a restore point by simply tapping the game pad screen with your finger. I did this without even realizing what I did. I just don't get why the game doesn't leave you at the most recent save point, whether it's auto save or your last load point. I didn't realize that load point overrides any auto save within the game. @Tyranexx

Well, you've learned your lesson, even though it's obvious if you read the manual:
Wii U Restore Point > Original In-Game Save

With Wii U's practical restore point feature why do you use the original in-game method of saving anyway?

If you created one restore point... You don't need to actually use it.

You can ignore it, the game won't load it without your permission.

But, yeah, usually, if you decide to work extensively with restore points, you should stick with them and create a new one as regularly as you would save the game normally.

Just think ahead and decide how you want to play your game.

They do prompt before loading, right?

Better than when I played Pokemon Platinum on emulator and I think I lost 20+ hours due to savestate errors (I'm sure that emu doesn't prompt when loading), twice over, and yet I eventually finished.
(yes, naughty me for playing Plat on emu first but I did do the proper thing and I buy a real copy since I enjoyed it "It's probably only slightly better than the Pearl I already bought." I was surprised how better it was.)
If you enjoy the game, don't give up.
