Topic: (Report) Wii U to be 50% more powerful than PS3

Well, the issue I have is that the 'other' great games on 360 and PS3 are overshadowed and mostly buried under all the shooters. I swear, watching TV, I only see commercials for these shooters but nothing else. It really sucks to see great games buried underneath the heaps of others (particularly the shooters).

At the same time, I should not be making a huge dog-on deal about it, but it's something that really bugs me and it's one of my concerns for WiiU where it's going to get the nasty image of "360 and PS3" ports, and those ports will most likely overshadow the other original, creative and fun titles in the public's eye. It's going to suck, but such is life.

Why would you care what games other people buy?

I play the games I like, I assume everyone else does. While I do have an opinion, really I couldn't care what everyone else plays.

Will you stop listening to music if people continue to listen to songs you don't like?

Because if the top 10 selling games for a console are all shooters, it means that it won't be long until the only blockbusters are shooters.

Or something something. It's also possible I was doing this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole Given you've used sarcasm in the past I'm going to assume you understand its application.

Fair enough. No need to get all defensive.

If you get defensive again, I'm never playing Battletoads again. Ever. For a whole week.

So I'd be doing you a favour? Good stuff

What's fascinating (you'll be the judge of that) is how both 'sides', if you will, consider the games the other peeps play, to be 'teh baby gmez'.

The 13 year old, Call of Duty playing, hurling-casually-racist-abuse-at-everyone-on-xbox-liveing people, dismiss cartoony, platform games as for kids.

The people who actually play the cartoony platform games, who usually are older than the peeps saying they are just for kids, think the kids playing the shooter games are, well... kids. And that shooter games are for kids.

That's why kids play them. The stupid kids.

When they grow up, and stop being kids, they will stop playing the kiddy shooter games, with the other kids, and start playing the games they used to say were just for kids. So, ironically, when you are a kid, you don't play the games some think are for kids, you play other games, with kids. Then when you grow up, you leave behind the kids playing kiddie shooters, and play the platform games that are supposedly for kids, but have no kids playing.

Kids wont play games that are for kids - those are for kids!

I'll have to leave that line of inquiry there, for now, as the word kids has lost all meaning.

I suppose it's about wanting to be 'cool' when you are 13, and realising that that's not what counts, when you are 25. Cool games aren't good - good games are.

Maybe, really, most people, like me, play the cartoony platforms games, and the shooter games, and don't really care about the 'for kids' stuff. They just play good games that they enjoy.

Right kids?

BREAKING NEWS!

I don't care how powerful the WiiU is because I do not consider Nintendo to be in competition with Microsoft and Sony. So lOng as I get next-gen HD visuals, a quirky 'new way to play' and a load of silly Mii games I'll be happy.

Eh, I don't care. I played Duke Nukem 3D, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, etc. on N64 when I was significantly younger- but I never played them to feel 'cool'. I played them because they're fun, particularly with my brother and cousins, and even my niece. I had loads of fun playing Bomberman 64 with my brother and niece. Everyday we played that game and never got tired of it. Mario Party as well.

Then, when I got my Dreamcast, we started playing Power Stone 2 a year after I got it and that game basically became our Bomberman 64 for Dreamcast since we played that everyday as well.

Hm, I miss local play... My brother doesn't seem to be interested in playing locally, not even with his shooters- particularly Halo 3/ODST/Reach because I really want to play that with him. But he complains about splitscreen, when, that wasn't a problem back then considering we played shooters with a smaller screen than he has now. Way smaller, actually.

I'm hoping WiiU can essentially enforce local play as most people seem to be going all online.

Kids aren't supposed to be playing Call of Duty or GTA 4, their M-rated games!
I think you need to write a philosophical book about all of this stuff.

Why does it that people always assume that everyone in my general age group is some nintendo bashing moron who only likes shooters because they are HaRDCOREz!?!!?!! I'm sorta of tired of always herring about how every 14 year old is automatically addicted to COD and Halo and we laugh at those "gay" nintendo games for being kiddy. Is it impossible that any of us have balance?? I for one love FPS even though I'm more of an RPG kinda guy. I also love Nintendo and have spent the last few years defending it from every insult it gets. The 3rd party support means the world to me because I can finally play the games that have passed me as a Wii owner by. I can finally play the HArDKOrEZ!!!!! games that I wanted and still play the games that only Nintendo can make. As much it might have been nice for some people to miss 90% of every game to come out, It just depressed me. And while I don't know how it was like in "the good ole days" Alot of my friends have played and continue to play NES-N64 games, I mostly play on the SNES, that console was the god of RPGs. And honestly theres nothing like going through the 1st level of Castlevania 4, with Simon's epic theme playing in the background or traveling through time and space in Chrono Trigger. I admit the "good ole days" seem great but let's face it "the golden age" is gone and it won't be coming back anytime soon. Buy the games that you like but stop bashing our age group for what some of us like or dislike. This doesn't represent all of us and the stereotypes are annoying. I would like to one day look at these forums without someone insulting a 13-15 year old because that would make my day.

HalfLife is a shooter, Fallout 3 is a shooter, Crysis is a shooter, all of them masterpieces as well as many others. As with everything you have good and bad shooters and the same applies to platformers.

I wrote this all on my iPod sorry it isn't the neatest. It took me about 15 minutes just to type the whole thing, I was trying to finish it faster.

fallout 3 is an awesome rpg that just happens to have a first person mode and shooting. i would call it an fps.

and as for the whole kids and hardcore arguement, pokemon is one of the hardest core games i've ever played. ivs, evs, natures, hell, even completing the pokedex will easily suck up a big chunk of your life. i've spent 460ish hours on ds pokemon games alone, and i'm not even into competitive battling yet, nor is my pokedex even close to completion.

honestly i think it gets a bad rap because it got too big too fast.

Lots of censorship here...

Meh, CoD's popularity is slowly dying, and I'm sure Halo's is as well. People will get tired of them over time, it's just a fad. And most of the "real gamers' I know have an open enough mind to play all kinds of games, even "kiddy" ones. The ones who give the speeches about "rofl so HARdCOre" are usually the ones who didn't even play games before CoD came out anyway. They're young, and they'll see the error of their ways eventually.

Did.... Did you just call the FPSer a fad?

Untitled

Individual franchises within the FPSer genre rise and fall, but the genre itself has always, always been one of the most popular. And it will continue to be the most popular - if CoD and Halo drop away, then something else will rise up to take its place.

Indeed, I remember when there was a time where I loved FPS (007 all the way! First with Golden Eye, then my bro got Agent Under Fire for the GC) but yeah, I moved on although I still have a fair amount of skill considering how rare I play FPS games now.

Although FPS have been around for ages, it's the fact that Halo and CoD made the FPS gaming world blow up and suddenly it seemed that that's all everyone played and if you owned an XBox, you had to have Halo or CoD (which I don't ).

Well those dev kits for the WiiU that the 3rd parties have right now are 50% more powerful then the PS3, however they are under clocked as well. Sega has said that they will be getting more powerful and update dev kits.

I game on Nintendo systems. So what?

That's what I'm hearing too. That devs don't have the final dev kits and are waiting on Nintendo to finally hand over the finals to get the games running the way it should be running on WiiU in terms of using it's power- or whatever.

It's been very quiet and it'll probably be like that until TGS or early next year when Nintendo potentionally show off the games they've been working on along with their developers. There's a reason why Nintendo handed other devs to work on games such as Pilotwings Resort, Zelda OoT and Luigi's Mansion 2. These games, the originals were being internally developed by Nintendo themselves (R&D, Tokyo, etc.)

I'm assuming Nintendo is working on a handful of games for WiiU and letting their 2nd party and even 3rd party partners to work on their games.

That's just my theory and observation. Retro Studios is also involved with Mario Kart 3DS, which is kinda strange to me because there has never been a Mario Kart game even co-developed by another developer.
