So people made fun of asynchronous game play myself included but it seems to have become one of the current industry.
Evolve is a FPS with one person playing the monster, and the other 4 people playing hunters trying to stop it.
Fable Legends is a 4V1 RPG that has a story and is going to emulate DND in the Fable world. Four players play as the heroes and the fifth plays as the dugeon master so to speak.
Now EA has announced Shadow Realms for the PC which seems to be the samething as fable legends just in a more modern time persiod where you have four heroes fighting the duegon master with a episodic story content.
So it got me thinking while playing Find Mii 2 Nintendo should totally do their own that would be a corss between Find Mii
With a gameplay similar to Zelda Battle Quest, but like smash run where the levels, items, and enemies differ from different games. Even the four starting classes you be
Zelda
Mario
Metroid
Pikmin
with the gamepad person or one of the guys if your playing online being the Master Hand so to speak.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.
This man speaks of the truth. We definitely need a Nintendo Land 2 to let the Gamepad shine and it should include continuous DLC and massive online play. They better include an online chat hub as well! Imagine all the Miis in Nintendo Land were actual players are we can chat, walk around and form a party and get to games? The Nintendo Land concept has a lot of potential, lets hope Nintendo doesn't let it go to waste. Oh and implementing amiibos would be crazy too. Nintendo Land could well be the next Wii sports resort, a game where gamers and casual alike can enjoy.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
I think Mario Party might have some games that use asynchronous MP
I wish they'd have made the original Nintendoland open to DLC so they could add a Starfox game and some other stuff that was less infuriating than the weaker minigames. I'd love to know whose idea it was to control F-Zero vertically.
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.
All of this would be pointless online since Nintendo won't allow people to talk to each other when they are gaming.
Which is fine by me. As long as we can communicate using typing, I'm fine. I'm so tired listening to 5 year olds yelling at me on Playstation because I ruined their kill streak or morons playing poopydoodoocacapoopledoopledoggiepoopsiepooples rap music right into their microphone for some stupid reason. Just get a USB keyboard (which cost like 1 dollar nowadays) and you're set.

Keyboard chats work ok for slow paced strategy games or something like that. Anything else that moves at a faster pace requires immediate voice communication. I would play MK8 online a lot more if you could talk to people while you raced.

@Beetlejuice Un-huh and what would you tell strangers as you raced online? People from all across the world? Would you curse or brag when you won or lost? See... voice chat is a slippery slope and should only be optional for friends. Like how Pokemon X/Y does it.

Laugh, trash talk, chat about anything....you know....basic human communication? Why is that a slippery slope? If you don't like what someone is saying, mute them, or turn off voice chat all together! But keep it an option.
Try playing a game like Left4Dead online without talking to your teammates and see how you guys do. That game requires communication with strangers to be successful, as do the other games shown and mentioned above.
Voice chat should always be available, but have the option to turn it off.
I'm a strong advocate for asynchronous multi-player, however the games you listed are all online co-op, as a PC gamer i've been playing asynchronous multi-player for the longest time so its nothing special (although it's nice to see more AAA productions). Console wise i think the first game i can remember doing it very well was Perfect Dark on N64, I really though it was going to be a game changer since PD was very popular but it just never caught on which totally sucked. The PS2 Era brought some great asynchronous local experiences but other than a couple PS3 games the last generation was sorely lacking.
I've had Evolve pre-ordered since i played it at Comic Con in May so I am hyped for it (stupid delay, grumble grumble), but online asynchronous is just not as exciting as local for me. Also more asynchronous co-op really needs to come to consoles, i like the Star Fox idea they are suggesting (One pilots, one, one shots), and Affordable Space Adventures has a similar set up. So yeah i hope it catches on so I can play more of these experiences on My Wii U, PS4 and PC.
Edit: Oh and Garden Warfare has asynchronous as well in the same way as Zombie U, with one person controlling the environment and enemies.
Nintendo Land is fun, and all. But those games are pretty small in gameplay. The Metroid series, and Splatoon however have potential for asymmetric gameplay.
They SHOULD license SOMEONE to make a Dungeon and Dragons type online/local game like Penny Arcade suggested. Even Xbox is getting a game that would be perfect for Wii U via that Legends game. It really wouldn't be hard to use the gamepad, not sure why they're struggling with finding uses for it. Personally, off-tv play is all the use I need to justify it
YES to all of this. Mario Chase had soooo much potential, but instead was left so bare bones that the replayability was pretty shallow. Seriously, just give us some more options, power-ups, and levels via DLC and I would pay 5 bucks or so.
I still think there's a ton of potential in Nintendo Land to be this neverending upgradeable experience. A couple bucks here and there and you can download new titles or upgrade existing ones and get all new rewards. It's sad they are letting this awesome platform just kind of die.
@CM30 The Mario Party stuff is not comparable to the videos & concepts above. Someone controlling bowser for what 30 seconds and everyone else scrambling around to avoid crap is not the same as team members working together to defeat a common enemy or obstacle over an extended period of time.
Two things:
1. It's not 30 seconds, it's for pretty much the entire game. That's the point, one plays as Bowser on the board and in mini games. And isn't Mario Party kind of the original asymmetric game? 1 vs 3 mini games and all that...
2. It shows that Nintendo are at least... sort of still trying asymmetric gameplay. That there's hope they'll then move onto something a bit more complex in future.
P.S. If anyone wants some experiences like the Evolve one (where one plays as the monster and one or more as the hero), some recommendations outside of current consoles are...
1. Bottles Revenge (Banjo Tooie beta). Yeah you need a gameshark, but it's pretty much the original 'play as the bad guys against someone playing the hero' mode in gaming:
2. 2 Player Co-op Quest 2. An interesting hack of SMW where one player controls Mario, and the others the enemies and bosses trying to kill him, Bottles Revenge style. It also allows for online multiplayer (aka someone the other side of the world playing as Mario or the bad guys) and later has you team up to take on the levels.
