" Wii U is a great bit of kit, and there are some pretty cool looking indie titles coming soon. We’re really pleased to be a part of that line-up, and hopefully help to showcase the platform’s strengths. Visually we have been able to do some pretty cool things with Pure Chess, both on Wii U and 3DS, and I think the game is really going to stand out as one that is just stunning to look at, even if you don’t play chess. I’m still really impressed with the hardware on both platforms – I was dubious about being able to get such gorgeous looking visuals on 3DS before we started, but I’m sure people will be really surprised when they see what we’ve been able to achieve. I still want Kung Fu/Tempest Chess! Now THAT would capture my attention. I'm not willing to pay for standard chess when there are already so many ways to play online for free
Alright, who's getting the game? If enough people get it we could organize tournaments right here!
I probably will get it, but don't know if I should get it on my 3ds or tablet, oh how awesome it will be to have a tournament but with people using all sorts of different devices!
I'll get it for my Wii U if enough of you do or if I can get a review copy of the game! Pure Chess looks brilliant and for the price of an SNES game on the Wii U VC the game is an absolute bargain!
Yes you can @WiiULoveGBA
When you start the game in either Version you will create a profile. When starting an online match you can play against a random person or search for a specific name. It's pretty easy and by this it wouldn't be a problem to set up a toruney. I just experienced the problem yesterday that the online is really slow and/or buggy. I don't know if this is just a launch problem but I hope they will fix it soon. Otherwise it is really a good game for those that like chess from what I've seen so far.
Does anybody remember Archon? It's kind of a chess game where you have to fight to take the space. It was an Atari game in the early 80s. I'm surprised nobody has picked up on this theme. Would also be cool to have a Star Trek tri dimensional set up

It was on the NES, too.
Mortal Kombat: Deception had a mode just like this. It was chess, but when pieces met you actually fought to see who won the space. The more important the piece, the more health it had. So, for example, a queen would have a lot more health than a pawn. Before the game started you picked which character would represent which piece, so a lot of strategy went into the set up alone. It was a lot of fun against a human opponent.

Well there's a game called Rooks Keep on PC by Runestorm that went un-noticed. Waiting for that re-release on Steam.
Anyone having problems finding games online? Also find it annoying that you cannot cancel the search...
