That's a good point, this game is fun enough to survive a game drought. There's 3 months until Hyrule Warriors, I should be able to pass the time with MK8 online matches.
2 things I miss in this game: Actual finishing times during Grand Prix (I like to know how much I win or lose by), and a podium featuring the top 3 during the ceremony. I think Nintendo got lazy with this. How can you not include finishing times in a racing game?
Agree with this. I want to know how much I won or lost by too and got to admit I miss the podium too.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.

Because the CPU times are BSed for computers that finish behind you. I don't think it really matters, and it's one thing off the HUD that I didn't care about.
Also, the podium with the top 3 is missed, but the new method is a breath of fresh air. I always skipped the awards ceremony, but I always watch the MKTV celebration.

Anyone else thrown a green shell behind you as you finish which takes out the 2nd place CPU guy, but because you finish the race before he gets passed up by the pack he still gets 2nd place? That's kinda BS in my opinion. Especially if you are behind the guy in points. This was a tactic I used in previous games to gain extra points on the CPU closest to me in the standings.
And in regards to the finishing times, I'm also missing the lap times...because it IS interesting to see which lap was your fastest, or which lap lost you the race etc.

I've noticed that, and it's kinda lame that it doesn't effect the racers position. I always used to do that as well. It was fun knocking the CPU behind you in the last lap and watching them fall to 5th or 6th position.
It's like the race is officialy over once you cross the line, and wherever the CPU is will be their automatic place even if they change positions.

It was like that in almost Every Mario Kart that exists. Double Dash!! did it. DS did it. Wii did it. 7 did it. It was only the early ones that didn't really do it (but he rubber banding was so bad that it almost always balanced out)

I was just playing online, some dude playing Ludwig was in front of me.
I kept hitting him with red shells and the fire flower, but other than rotating and losing some coins he didn't lose speed.
He even hit some of the cars (we played Toad's Turnpike) but still, he didn't slow down. Does anyone know this technique?
Or are there already cheaters on the road? Anyone else encounter this?
Can't say I've seen that exactly but I swear I've used red shells before and done the same thing. I thought great I can now catch up only to not catch up at all. I haven't see them spin though and not lose speed. Still I've seen some things that just don't seem right like blowing through someone with the star only to bounce off them and fall off the track and not even take them out.
I had possibly my best runs last night but boy when you get spammed it seems like you're the only target on the track. I can tell you how many times I went from the top 2 to the bottom 3 last night. Still I had my fair share of top 2 finishes though so overall I was happy and no disconnects in that whole hour either plus a friend joined which seems to be working better now.
@Hofnarr@Miss_Dark They may be using lag switches, but with the frequency I see it, I really doubt it. I think it's just plain and simple lag. it's even more noticeable in Battle Mode. Sometimes in Battle Mode, I'll hit someone two or three times and they don't lose a single balloon, but then I'll completely miss them and they suddenly spin out and drop one. It's the weirdest thing. Most likely lag.
@UGXwolf@Miss_Dark@Hofnarr It's definitely lag I've had it happen on and off in Battle mode, if people were really cheating you would know as it would most likely be item related.
its not as memerable as mario kart wii or 64 but double dash was the best the modern games suck they're too damn easy i completed mario kart 7 in 2 days thats how easy and boring the new games get and the music isnt that great eather. mario kart wii, 64, and double dash had great music even the old rainbow road course is better in the n64 i don't like the 8 version much its not as classic i also hate princess gold peach but i like baby rosalina
Just unlocked the Gold Kart Looks sweet, I wish there were a gold bike though..
Loving the game. Definitely my favorite in the franchise thus far, I love how it's not just all about luck like in the Wii game. I just wish you'd get some credit for getting three stars on all the cups. In the Wii game you got stars on your online profile.. Seems like nothing happens in Mario Kart 8 :/
Makes the whole ranking system kind of pointless IMO. I also wish you'd get to see times when you drive past the finishing line, it's fun to see how fast you go.
I think I've spent 60h on this game now, and I'm still unlocking stuff
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again
Battlemode is just......just....horrendous. Worst battlemode of all the MK games. I personally usually split my time playing grand prix and battle mode 50/50, so I feel like I own half of a game. I wonder what they were thinking? On a positive note, I the grand prix mode is very fun, and online runs smoothly....but the battlemode is a thorn in my side.

I completely disagree. It's been a long time since I've actually enjoyed a Battle Mode. I will note that if you don't have a gamepad, you're kinda screwed (Nintendoooo, add an on-screen maaaaaap pleeeease!), but it's definitely not the worst battle mode I've ever seen.
