As of right now, Famitsu gave Bayonetta 2 a 38 out of 40, and Edge awarding the title a perfect 10.
So question is, if Bayo 2 continues to be reviewed very highly by a number of publications, should Nintendo make serious attempts to fold the Bayonetta IP under it's wings as a core franchise? I'm not talking about yearly additions or anything, but just making Bayo recognizable as a Nintendo IP, with Platinum as the second party developers.
I say yes, Bayo 1 is considered to be the best third person hack and slash title of the 7th generation, with God of War III. I think Nintendo could really use the added variety of having a mature rated IP under it's portfolio. If anything, Nintendo often gets accused of overly supporting the younger demographic............diversity is important, >>>>>and no, one or two mature rated IP's will not hurt Nintendo, in fact, it will help Nintendo<<<<<. Also, Platinum is not Capcom, Bayo 2 was fully funded and published by the big N, so this is in reason. Plus, Bayonetta is a popular IP (with the core gaming crowd) in both the west and east, so even though it may not be a multi-million seller, it is a franchise of excellence.
Depends on whether or not it turns out to be financially contingent or not. Just consider the number of Nintendo franchises currently which are idle due to poor sales performance in the past.

I can pretty much already tell you in won't sell that much in comparison to first party Nintendo titles.......it's a sexualized, action oriented mature title on a Nintendo system. At least the Bayonetta games don't take themselves that seriously, so it could fit in with Nintendo's portfolio better than most would give it credit at first glance.
Bayonetta 2 could absolutely bomb in sales. I have no idea how it is doing in Japan though, so feel free to provide evidence to the contrary.
It came in at number 3 on the Japanese video game charts, which is respectable, behind Smash 3DS and the newest Yo-Kai Watch title. Some western publications are saying it bombed,.....but in reality it didn't, the sales were only one days worth of being on the charts on a single console with a small user base.
Being #3 in Japan for one week doesn't mean squat. That has no indication on the actual number of sales, which is what really matters
It's not close to 1 or 2 considering they are both mega franchises, but the fact that it debuted at number 3 on a console with a small user base (it's not a multi-plat and the Wii U user base is significantly smaller than the Japanese Playstation base) is still a good sign.
Most Platinum games historically don't sell that well despite critical and user acclaim.
I think Nintendo should keep Bayonetta AND Wonderful 101 going. They both exude that "Nintendo Quality" and shouldn't be nixed so soon before they have a chance to build a significant user base--which they both easily could if more people would give them a chance. Plus, they both increase Nintendo's variety, which is exactly what they need IMO.
They don't need the same exact games the other systems are getting, just ones in a similar genre, because heck, the Nintendo versions tend to be the best anyway, why not branch out? Metroid Prime was a phenomenal push into the FPS genre, Xenoblade was a smart grab as one of the best JRPGs...why not add 3D beat-em-ups to the regular roster?
^I agree. I could see W101 building into a niche franchise with a very dedicated base if Nintendo continues with it. Though it still ultimately tanked, it fared much better than a lot of 3rd parties have on the Wii U so there appears to be something a little extra there that appeals to hardcore Nintendo fans.
Bayonetta should be kept alive regardless of sales just to add more uniqueness and quality to the library. Though considering how no one would touch this franchise after it's "disastrous" two million sales, I imagine they won't have do much to keep the IP. Plus, I'd love to see the character stick around and join in the Smash games, she'd be ridiculously fun (Wonder Red too actually).
They would have to buy the rights to the IP from SEGA. No matter how well reviewed the game is, buying the rights to a franchise that sell poorly is a bad investment.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again
It would make business sense to do so. Individual sales will matter, but nintendo will want more catalysts to channel their own systems and platform. So yeah, it would be a clever move and relatively cheap in terms of imvestment against, say, marketing promotional efforts.
Considering how it's sold I doubt they'll even consider it, unless sales drastically pick up. Because lets not forget...
I always thought it was quite a strange decision to bring Bayonetta 2 exclusively to the Wii U. Although I suppose many anticipated the Wii U hardware sales would be much higher than they have been, due to how successful the Wii was.
Regardless, I know I can't wait for it, I've got my pre order for it. And I hope it ends up being a success and we get future instalments in the series.

It's funny that games that often get coined as 'mature' or more often actually very 'immature' (cough, God of War, cough). I see trailers of this game and I can't help but wish they would tone down the dopey sexualization stuff. The crotch shots, the butt shots, it all just feels like it's built for little teenage boys to snicker at. If that's what they are going for, well I guess that's fine, but it's pretty off-putting as an adult.
This is a break down in culture, keep in mind in Japan sex is often used as a punch line. It's all one big parody with amazing gameplay.
As to the whole conversation, this is the kind of titles Wii U needs, things not part of Nintendo's traditional wheel house. In this case an Extreme Action game which Nintendo has never really had, we need titles and genres not present on Nintendo console and this fills one of those voids.

How did everyone forget that Mario and Luigi are the sexiest plumbers alive? Why do you think Peach invites them to snake her drain so often? And Daisy? And now even Rosalina? Bayonetta fits right in! XD (This is not directed at any one person, just trying to brighten up someone's day. XD)
