PBteen game lounge strange I agree but any publicity is good
Note that Iwata said part of the reason for lack of Marketing was because they were focusing mainly on Pokemon
I'd say the internet ads are more important now adays. The only channels that matter for Nintendo games for the most part are pretty much: Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel.
3rd parties have their games on all systems most of the time, so any system with the game is relevant in the commercial. 3rd parties don't mention a specific console unless they're getting paid by said company.
I don't really pay attention to ads anyway. They never tell me anything I don't already know, besides maybe how much something costs or promos.

I've seen Skylanders, Just Dance 2014, and Mario & Sonic ads on Nickeolodeon. Cartoon Network ran X&Y ads constantly up until it's release, heck I saw the first one air just minutes after it was release online . 3DS/2DS ads that mention Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing run pretty frequently on both channels (just saw one last night now that I think about it).
All the PSONE/COD/AC commercials are usually on primetime network and sports channels.
If Super Mario 3D World and Wii Fit U gets ads on channels with a big daytime TV audience like CBS, I'd be pretty satisfied with Ninty's TV marketing.
I don't watch a lot of tv, but I have seen quite some 2ds commercials with older games like mario kart and luigi's mansion. Ah I have seen a just dance commercial, but the wii u boxart was hiding behind the wii boxart like, DON'T LOOK AT ME!!! lol

The only video game commercial I see on Swedish television right now is Battlefield 4.
Nothing for Call of Duty:Ghosts
Nothing for Batman: Arkham Origins (although I've seen ads for it in theaters)
Nothing for AC4
Nothing for Pokemon X/Y
Nothing for Wii U (since last year)
Nothing for 2DS/3DS
Nothing for PS4/Xbox One
Here in the Netherlands i've seen a lot of Pokemon X/Y, Luigi Mansion and Mario Kart 7 ads on the cartoon/disney channels and Discovery. These ads are also pushing the 2DS. And i've also seen a few Wind Waker ads but much less.
And basically...where is the problem with that? I'd watch sports channels but also a lot of other options. Your vision is a little bit...little.
Nintendo is not a kiddy company, or a grown up company (buajaja I sound like a bad man....c'mon)....is a video game company...that's all, it's not rocket science or a mimic like been a "grown man".
I'm a grown man, so I don't watch kids tv channels. Mainly sports and channels that appeal to 18-49 year old men.
Nintendo needs to start advertising to adults as well, if they don't want to be viewed as a 'kiddy' company
ugh
What makes you think that 18-49 year old men who would be into Zelda, Mario and Pikmin aren't already aware of them? The whole point of advertising is to change behavior, if you're watching the footy and are interested in first party Wii U content an ad isn't going to do much. With a kid? Hells yes. With the usual multi-platform AAAs? Quite probably, it's a different sort of mass market product. Wii Fit U, Zelda, Mario, Pikmin etc? Wrong demographic.
