Do you wait for a certain game? Me, I wait for Fire Emblem. I got into the series with the Wii, and have bought every piece of hardware since, once the game came to the system. I just hope that SMT X FE isn't vaporware. I would really like them to just make another FE game, like Radiant Dawn. That is my favorite, of the ones I've played. Awesome game. Wish I had a chance to play Path of Radiance...oh well.

Would you play Advance Wars on the Wii U?

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

Doubt FExSMT will be vaporware. Atlus is a great developer & Nintendo is surely overseeing the development from time to time, making sure it's up to their standards. I'm really curious as to how it'll turn out.

I usually wait for a Mario title, since I'm a big Mario & platforming fan. Most of the time, it doesn't take very long.

Not really I just usually get one when I feel like I am ready to buy it.

One another note, I'm glad this thread isn't what I expected when I saw the title.

I always wait for a good bundle and a affordable price.
I got my Wii U a few weeks ago and it was the Wind Waker HD bundle. I also got Super Mario 3D World.
These two games are making me really happy I'm a Wii U owner

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

I get them near launch for the sole reason you would a non-GCN machine at launch, so you don't have to spend a lot on games at the same time you get the console. I honestly questioned my decision at first because I thought I was couldn't justify getting both the Nintendo console and handheld because being an adult means having to pay for things, but it isn't like there was much coming out that I cared about in 2012 and the Bayonetta 2 announcement event excited me so "why not?". The initial X trailer is what helped me feel justified about this purchase because I was gonna get the Xenoblade successor almost no matter what.

I don't always buy a Nintendo console...

But when I do it's usually to save Nintendo.

I buy Nintendo consoles as soon as possible. I know they are going to release games that I need to play. There have been Xbox and Playstation games I wanted but don't feel bad for not experiencing. Nintendo always releases games I NEED to play. that said, I still buy and try to support 3rd Party a lot (and a lot more on Wii U than any past system) but it is the 1st Party I buy the system for. My opinion is, if a system doesn't have a strong 1st Party then what is the point of owning it?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I only buy new consoles when I'm through with my old ones. So it may be quite a while until I buy a next gen console.

I wait for a game that's new, exciting, and demonstrates the system's capabilities. Doesn't matter which franchise, as long as it's one I can enjoy.

I usually buy them day 1, because like some said already, I know I want to play their games. And it's always nice to have something new I think.

I'll usually buy it when there's a game announced for it that I want to play. I bought my 3ds after the announcement of Super Mario 3d land and luigi's mansion dark moon and I bought my Wii U after the January Nintendo Direct last year.

Every Nintendo console gets Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and Zelda, so that basically confirns a purchase on launch. Those are always the must haves that I know will be there. X is one of the biggest reasons to own one, too, but that wasn't really a standard as much as the other games that always release on Nintendo.

As for 3rd parties... I always buy those, too. I know the stereotype is that Nintendo people only buy 1st party, but that kind of ignores that not everyone's opinions are on the sales chart. I just go with the flow and buy the "cool" 3rd party games. I literally have a rule where I buy at least 1 3rd party game at launch. Indie games make it easy to support smaller companies and still get a decent game for cheap.

Kind of off topic, but I always end up having access or buying another console, so I always play most of the games I want to.

In conclusion, I buy Nintendo, buy games, play games then usually buy another console, buy more games, and obviously play more games. All I do is play games, damn-it. That's why I buy Nintendo.

I buy new hardware when I feel it gives me enough new 'options' to justify the price. The Nintendo console that sold itself the best for me was the Wii by quite a margin. I watched E3 2006 on Youtube when Youtube was a fairly new thing anyways. So that was something in and of itself. Then I sit there watching it and it's all Mario in Space, Golf with actual motion controls and Zelda with swordplay on horseback. I was floored. First non-portable Nintendo console I got since the SNES.

............ nothing else has ever matched that

...when it finally impresses me.

The 3DS, back before I was on NintendoLife, didn't impress me until the E3 showing where they talked about the depth slider and showed that awesome video with all of the game characters jumping out of the 3DS system.

The Wii U got me with the GamePad idea back when they first showed it and reeled me in with the sizzle reel at E3 2012 along with the Zelda demonstration.

The DS's dual screen design was incredible and I wanted to draw on the touchscreen in PictoChat (also an instant messaging system on my game device? WHAT?!)

The Wii with it's motion controls and Smash Bros. (which I'd only ever played before on the GameCube).

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite

When there's at least 5 exclusive games on the system I am genuinely interested in playing.

This has applied to every console I have purchased in the past (PS2, Wii, DS, 360, PS3, 3DS, Wii U).

I didn't have Wii I got a Wii U not long after launch with Nintendoland, NSMB.U and the in my eyes the very good ZombiU. Maybe I got it a little to soon, but now I cannot wait for DK which is out next Friday 21st. The games I most looking forwards to is Zelda, X & Bayonetta2, I haven't got Super Mario 3D World yet as I've got some pre-orders & getting DK next week which I've looking forwards to more. I would llike to choose where I can buy 3rd party's without it missing features or just not coming out, as for me 3rd party's are stop gaps between first party releases or that how it's ment to be. Or despite the fact some 3rd party games are really good nower days like The Witcher3, Metal Gear Solid & MGS Rising, hence why I'm forwards to Bayonetta2 despite what some of you say about 3rd party's. I mean how can you look forwards to Bayonetta2 & not try out MGS Rising both the same dev's PlatinumGames? that's why I get a little bit pissed at people what say that.

I'm usually a couple years late with Nintendo consoles. Not because I'm waiting for anything in particular, just because we never had a lot of money growing up. I remember saving up my allowance for like 3 months to buy Pokemon Red when I was about 10.

But since I've been working and earning my own money, I bought both a PS3 and a Wii U at launch. The PS3 was a mistake because it was bloody $600 for a barbeque. It didn't even have any worthwhile games until like 2 years into its life cycle, so I wish I would have waited for the Slim model there. The Wii U... I don't know. I think the hardware itself is wonderful. That is enough to justify buying it at launch for now. It's easier to keep up with games when you only have to buy one every few months.

Most of my attention is on the 3DS anyway. Bought it in late 2012 in anticipation for Fire Emblem: Awakening and it's had a never-ending line-up of fantastic software. I barely even have time to work through my backlog as a 3DS owner.

Anyway, in general, I usually wait a couple years before buying a new console. For future Nintendo consoles, I will always wait for bundles because those definitely have the best value. For future Sony consoles, I will always wait for a relaunch because they tend not to get hardware right the first time and are just as prone to post-launch software droughts as any of the other console sellers. There's still new PS3 games coming out and I still have that backlog anyway.

I purchased the N64 and GameCube on lanch day. Didn't get a Wii on launch because none of the games really interested me at that point in time, but I was intrigued by the VC. Didnt end up getting one until around 2009-2010 when I learned about some...ahem...modifications...that made the system more appealing to me. Got the Wii-U on launch just because. None of the games interested me a whole lot aside from ZombiU, but I just grabbed it anyway to relive that feeling of cracking open a new Nintendo console on its first day.
