to me any "leak" that doesn't show any visual proof(that can later on be either reproduced in-game or proven right by "official means") is fake.
What if it's footage of a pre-alpha build? A lot of that stuff gets left on the cutting room floor afaik.
well that's what the "proven by official means" was to cover, if you can't prove it no matter how then it better be dismissed as fake(or turned into creepypasta, that's also a very interesting outcome)

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

Of course it's fake. At best, it's accuracy before Chrom was deconfirmed was just good guesses. We should have known something was up like a year ago when Rosalina was confirmed.
I wouldn't count it out so fast. The Gematsu leak never claimed to know every single newcomer. Rosalina could've just been one character the leak didn't include. As far as Chrom goes, it's very possible that Sakurai did intend on putting Chrom in the game at the time of the leak, but later decided against it because he's too similar to the many other sword-wielding characters in the game. After all, Sakurai did state in an interview that that was the reason he chose to include Lucina and Robin instead of Chrom. In the end, Fire Emblem: Awakening WAS represented, just with different characters than who could've initially been planned.
I'll discredit the Gematsu leak once I see the full roster and neither Shulk nor the Chorus Men are in the game.
That's true, and a very good way to keep expectations low. People who believe leaks do so at their own risk
Fake leak announces a new character. A bunch of games believe it. When said character is not revealed, they get mad at Nintendo. Such a vicious cycle
You didn't hear it from me, but this going to make Melee look like the proof-of-concept demo it was. The controls will be tighter, 120 fps, and it has 10 unannounced characters. I heard it from my cousin's brother's uncle's nephew's cousin who happens to work at Nintendo.
A lot of these points seem almost true, except nothing can touch Melee ofc.
Chrom isn't playable. That kinda already discredits the leak.
BUT that leak was apparently set in April of This Year. Just Before the Smash Bros Direct which actually announced Mega Evolutions for Lucario and Charizard and the fact that Charizard is stand alone this time around and Greninja was announced.
E3 we saw that Mii and Pacman were announced which was part of 2013's leak making that list totally legit.
What I THINK actually happened is this. The Guy who tipped off Gematsu saw Chrom 3D models and thought Chrom was going to be playable, but what he really saw was Robin's Assets for his Final Smash, but the Tipper didn't see Robin, only Chrom so there was no reason for him to think he was part of a Final Smash.
He probably saw Greninja and some other X and Y pokemon and thought they would all be playable. Chorus Men are probably an Assist Trophy.
So if Shulk gets a reveal within now to October's 3DS release then we can probably say there was some merit to the leak, but it was too legit.
