@moomoo I have not had the chance to play that game sadly, but I've heard good things about it for sure. To me however, I don't think smash can be beat. Link vs Cloud was amazing and Bayonetta was a great add. Smash bros is my fav because it puts together all of Nintendo like the past smashes have, but this time with a huge balanced roster and dlc I don't see other than smash tour how SSB4 could have been better
I've already answered this question on the first page, but for the sake of my love for the console I will just say that you've not done your Wii U, or your gaming collection in general if you don't have a Wii U, justice if you don't have Mario Kart 8, Smash U, Mario Maker, Splatoon and Bayonetta 2.
I haven't tried XCX yet, but as I'm struggling to enjoy XC I'm unsure about it, but for the love of all things video gamey, you must get those 5 games.
For me, it's Bayo 2. Excellent gameplay, excellent graphics, and infinite replay value until you get all Pure Platinums. Plus, nothing better than to shoot monsters with Moon River blasting from the speaking.
The uselessness of the 2nd season pass for Hyrule Warriors if you've already 100% completed the first season pass content has made Mario Kart 8 return to be my favourite Wii U game. Hyrule Warriors needs more adventure maps and MK8 needs more DLC packs. Still, there's 7-8 months left of which some things could change.
It still doesn't seem right that Color Splash is the entire holiday season so I have a small bit of hope DLC and/or updates will come for already existing games in September-December 2016. We already have kind of a hint with Pokken arcade getting Darkrai.
TW101 deserves a mention.
If I had to pick one, Splatoon. I've spent more time playing other WiiU games but its fresh take on the TPS genre and the fact it's a new IP gives it the edge in my eyes.
There's a good chance my opinion will change after playing BOTW.

Connection issues and the limits on arena mean I could never consider Splatoon as the best. I have fibre broadband and yet the amount of disconnections whenever I've tried to play recently mean I've more or less given up on it. Unacceptable when compared to MK8 online.
You guys had me at blood and semen.

@gcunit
I completely forgot about the connection issues, and they aggravated the heck out of me when I first bought it considering no issues online with other games. I had it for a month before I could get online.
I understand where you and Tsurii are coming from. Splatoon is half a game without online.
With that in mind, I'm torn between TW101 and Deus Ex:Human Revolution DC for offline best WiiU game.

The difference in the amount of data transferring in a Splatoon game compared to MK8 is like comparing MK8 with an online chess game.
@jariw Not sure of the relevance of that, but just for the record, I'd rather play online chess, or online watching paint dry, with a stable connection than anything with an unstable connection.

Xenoblade Chronicles X by a long shot. I know some people don't like fetch missions, but to me, they emphasized exploration on what's without question the prettiest game on the system.
I loved the characters and fine with the mystery. What I loved even more was the customization and combat.
Best use of the gamepad too (simple. It's a map that shows you roughly where you need to go and simple access to fast travel).
Close behind that would be Bayonetta 2, Splatoon and Tokyo Mirage Sessions.
MK8 is fantastic as is Raymand legends (though not an exclusive).
I like mario 3d world but not as much as its brother game on the 3DS.
Sadly I still cannot see anything positive in SFZ beyond its visuals.
Tekken Tag is overlooked and probably the best version of that game. Not a fan of twilight princess but windwaker is fun. Dont think they count though since they're remasters (still dont think TP looks good at all).

Agreed, somewhat. I think that Xenoblade was an awesome adventure and had amazing graphics and gameplay. However, I don't think it beats Smash Bros, MK8 or Splatoon and barely edges Mario Maker. Smash bros has so much content from across decades and companies of gaming that makes it exciting to play every time. Mario Kart 8 has great online play and a lot of content as well. Splatoon just had that instant unique charm and gave us a game that was nothing similar to what we already had played.
I love Xenoblade Chronciles X a lot, but I feel like the game has so much to do it's to slow. Like I still haven't gotten my skell. Also, I felt like the world itself was stunning but the people in it seemed lifeless. X toyed around with some ideas, but was a great combo between a Japansese and Western RPG. Not the Wii U's very best game however.
For me Mario Kart 8 is the game I find myself personally putting in the most when I want to play these days so if that's the criteria than thats my number one game. I haven't fully embraced 200cc but the ease of getting in to an online match is what gives it its replayability.
I don't personally enjoy Smash or Mario Maker or Splatoon as much as Mario Kart 8 but my kids play those others more than I.
Bayonetta was pretty bad ass as was 3D world and Lego City Undercover.
I'd probably give the title to Super Mario Maker. Put over 600 hours into it. I've put hundreds of hours into Mario Kart 8 also, but I couldn't give it the title of Wii U's best game. Why? The Battle Mode. Completely borked. They could have and should have fixed it but they chose not to. It's a great game, had the BM matched everything else then it would be a contender. Splatoon too doesn't deserve the title for reasons people have already mentioned. The disconnects are the biggest fault. It's a great first attempt but it's nowhere near perfect. I'd give it a 7/10. To me it's overrated. I've no interest in playing it anymore until the sequel, the fixes, more options and a better and more fleshed out single player. MK8 I still play weekly.
