Yeah, such a game does not (currently) exist.

But wouldn't it be great if it did? I don't know how I'll play the game without all the cool GamePad features. Especially the map. I remember playing Arkham City: AE with off-tv and I was having a hard time knowing where to go without the map (of course it still was very useful for a few minutes going to the bathroom or something, which is another feature we're losing). Now, with an even bigger open-world game, we are losing the map, whatever version you are going to play the game (PC/Xbox/PS). Isn't that a downgrade to the game instead of an upgrade you'd expect from a sequel?

Origins lost some of the GamePad features (like the weapons or the batarang view) but at least it still had that handy map and cute communications. I am so terribly disappointed of losing these features that I am not sure I want to play the game. Currently have the PS4 LE preordered and thinking of cancelling the whole thing, because paying $400-$500 on one console and game basically (this is currently the only game I'm interested in), as much I would like to play the game, and being all confused with the map, and missing those features, seems like a bad idea...

I wonder if they could have had the game running on Wii U. They said no, but seeing the way Nintendo makes use of the console, I am sure it would be possible. I'd take GamePad features over worse framerate/resolution in the worst case scenario. Maybe they were afraid it wouldn't sell. At any rate, Nintendo and WB really screwed things over - from that E3 appearance of Harley Quinn to skipping the game entirely. They must have already started to work on this game back then. How short sighted was that?

Does anyone feel the same? Really conflicted. Again, it's the only non Nintnedo console I'm really looking to play right now, having played the previous Batmans and especially loving Arkham City: Armored Edition.

If they tried to port the game onto Wii U, it'd look extremely shoddy compared to the other systems since the Wii U wouldn't be powerful enough to run all of the same atmosphere affects that a PC/PS4/XBONE can.

It still wouldn't be able to run on Wii U with 30fps/720p. There's a reason it's not on PS360 with 30fps/720p. The bigger open-world probably wouldn't be able to run right on the Wii U. The map was nice on Arkham City, it really was, but it doesn't make or break the game. Get the game on PS4 anyway, you'll be glad you did. Besides, the game gonna have a bunch other ways it'll be advanced. A lot of which wouldn't work on the Wii U. Also, you'll find other games you want on the PS4. You just have to look, wait, or perhaps take a leap of faith in order to broaden your horizons.
So all in all, I don't wish it was on Wii U, because the game would have to make a lot of sacrifices for that map, and be the worse for it.

Here's a video comparing Shadow of Mordor on PS3 and PS4. Make sure to watch in HD.

Arkham Knight on Wii U would probably look even worse, since that game seems to have even more going on.

Nintendo is indeed able to make good looking games. But the kind of load games like Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Mario 3D World have just isn't the same. They are waaaaaaaay smaller in scope, and even then they're lacking a lot of things (namely anti-aliasing) in order to keep the framerate up. Arkham Knight simply wouldn't be possible on Wii U, unless if Rocksteady were to completely compromise their vision for the game.

I know how it feels. I asked Bioware to consider Mass Effect 4 on Wii U and I asked Square Enix to consider Kingdom Hearts 3. I know how it feels to see an actually cool looking 3rd party game and wish it was on Wii U. Save up some cash for a PS4 like me or get a Xbox One.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

@Jaz007 Thanks. I probably won't have time or interest to play other games though...

@moomoo Those differences in graphics mean nothing to me. So the PS3 version is missing some rain and lighting and colors are kinda different. That's what it tells me. And Wii U is not a PS3. It is capable of more, more RAM etc. Besides, Zelda is going to look great. Xenoblade X probably going to look pretty good and it's a bigger open world than Batman. It's possible. And if not, I guess we might see it on an "NX" maybe.

@Blast Right. But it's the combination of missing it in on the console you want AND actually losing features. GamePad is a huge thing, huge. Not everyone appreciates it, but if you do, you're just in love with the thing. I want it. It's not the money, I don't care about that so much.... it's more about giving money to the people who didn't bother to bring it to Nintendo and to a console I don't like or would have had zero interest in. I might wait it out and one day play it on a future bought PC. I don't really need a new PC either here, my laptop is perfectly fine, so there's my conundrum. I preordered on Amazon a long time ago but I can cancel until the 22nd basically. Maybe if the reviews will be a bit disappointing, I'll have an excuse.

@dumedum Hey, I love the Gamepad, too. Off-tv play is just amazing for me. But sadly... Plenty of other people think its a waste and want Nintendo to stick to just regular controllers.

@dumedum If it can run it, you could get Asylum on your laptop (or PS360 if you have one) to see how you are without the map.

I'll be perfectly honest with you. I love the map in the few third party games the Wii U has. Assassin's Creed III and IV, Batman Arkham City, and Mass Effect 3 are the ones I have (though admittedly, I'm not far in ME3). On more than one occasion I tried switching to the Pro Controller and found myself occasionally glancing down at my hands to see the map I'd gotten so used to.

I've got a 360 as well and I've had to get used to not having a GamePad map to aid me.

To each their own, but I love the GamePad map and don't understand why so many people discount it or write it off as "just a gimmick."

I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.

See, you're thinking of this illogically. The Wii U is barely more powerful than the last gen systems. Having Arkham Knight on it would literally be impossible without cutting major things such as map size and making the textures look horrendous. Realistic artstyles look terrible as they age. Going to a system that would make everything look like Arkham City again wouldn't persuade customers to buy the game on that system, which means less sales. You also have to remember that games like that just don't sell well on Nintendo consoles. They used two Arkham games to test the waters. Both didn't do so hot. They have no reason to devote time and money to basically remaking a game so that it can go on a system that it will flop on. I dislike the whole hipster-like mindset that graphics don't matter. Sure graphics aren't the sole thing that matters, and in the end gameplay beats all, but without decent graphics people are going to go "ewww". having graphical power that has been long outdated isn't going to help make your game appealing unless the gameplay elements are out of this world crazy-good.

I did play Asylum on PS3. I think it was much smaller in scope, you're basically in a very small place so it wasn't a huge problem. Also, I got spoiled with map with City and Origins so I'm afraid I won't be able to come back. I'm really just very bad with orientation without maps, so I know it will annoy me. But it's just one reason. City had all these cool things with the GamePad. You had so many things to do on it. It was was so integrated and felt so fun.

Word. Mass Effect 3: SE was actually even better than City. The way you direct your teammates on the map where to go, and that special weapon where you choose targets on the map... bliss.

If I want to play it on PC, is there a good enough laptop that can run it? Can anyone recommend? I don't mind buying one in the future, either. Does it work well by connecting to the TV with HDMI? Which controller should I use? USB Xbox 360?

If you want it to connect to your tv, and use a controller you might as well buy this

No. The cheapest one doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Alienware is unreasonably expensive from what I've seen. A PS4 would cost less and run the game you actually want.

I ended up canceling my preorder. Will play this at some point in the future when it's probably cheaper and with all the DLC and probably on a future PC I will buy not just for gaming purposes. Many reasons but at the end of the day I don't want to give my money to Sony/Microsoft/rocksteady for the game at this point. They might have their vision of their game but I have mine. I've experienced City (and Origins) on Wii U and not wanting to compromise right now.

Just get a PS4. The exclusives are slowly piling on.

I'm with you. I love off-tv play and use it all the time. I'm especially annoyed that Splatoon doesn't support it when it so easily could have.

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Jazzer94

They could downport it to Wii U but what exactly will they gain, it would be the worse version and maybe 30-100k buy it that just isn't worth the time.

@dumdum Might as well just buy a PS4/Xbox1 instead of going for an over priced rubbish Alienware PC, if you want a PC build it don't buy overpriced ones.

@dumdum Just watch the E3 conferences and make decisions about whether to go XB1 or PS4. 1TB versions of both consoles have been confirmed so if you want the larger hard drive go ahead with that model or if you want the smaller version it'll probably be on sale.

Yep, good advice all, thanks. I will get it down the line, but it makes no sense to buy it now. Very little time and so many other Nintendo console games I want to play. Also, will able to get it with the DLC later. And new versions/cheaper hardware too. I want to finish all the stuff in City and Origins too first, and also play Blackgate on 3DS first.

So maybe a PC is not the best choice (unless I buy a good one anyway), but really not interested in a PS4, dislike that, but who knows. Xbox One has Scalebound going for it, that's another game I'm interested in, so might make sense to go with that eventually. I'm definitely not paying for any on-line though.
