Retro means...games and gaming predating the year 1999...to me

1. Everything at least two generations old (eg. N64 and older, soon to be GBA and older).
2. The new Rare; makers of the Metroid Prime series as well as DKCR.

If i met someone for the first time and he told me "Hi. I'm a retro-gamer." i'd associate NES, SNES, Sega Master System and Genesis games with it. Because that's what i really got to know first and remember fondly. Hell, i even wouldn't associate Game Boy games with the term because you can play the originals on the GameBoy Advance which to me is different enough to the DS to say it's not retro.
Personally i wouldn't want to call myself a retro gamer because i always give new games a chance or at least some respect. No matter if i generally don't like their genre or think they are being too trendy.

For me, in Nintendo terms, NES, SNES, GB and GBC are retro. Still can't bring myself to call N64 or GBA retro, and GameCube definitely won't be, for me, until the sixth home console comes out.

I was about to post my view but this guy basicly said it.

OBJECTION!

Team Ninja made Metroid: Other M, not Retro Studios.

I'm back (for the moment)!

retro is a lifestyle for me

As @ogo79 said, the SNS-RZ-USA is a prime giveaway that it's not a legit retail cart.
And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

What about local Retro Game Stores? How do they fit in?

I think you've answered your own question there
If its a retro game shop then its obviously retro

Okay...but that still answers nothing. How would you know what to expect to find there? They could have Gamecube and PS2 games for all we know, and you can still find them at your local GS or even Wal-Mart. Hell, I still find GBA games at Wal-Mart.

Well when I say none current, i mean games and consoles that are no longer in production, i.e gamecube, N64, Dreamcast, PS1 etc

Sure you can probably still buy games for the above consoles in your local games stores but they are very unlikely to be Brand new still sealed in the box, they are likely to be pre-owed as the games arent made anymore.

Hope that clears things up

Anything up to Dreamcast and mid life PS2 is Retro to me.

Anything that's not this generation's console. The DS is on the verge of becoming retro. It already is in Japan.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

For me N64 is the last retro console.

I can't even call N64 Retro. It still doesn't seem that old to me. Basically any game that came out before PS1/N64 is retro. The term Retro stopped for me after Snes.
