I'm actually excited for this AtariBox even though Atari doesn't have a great reputation in consoles. But what if the Power is more than Switch? Of course it would need some good games and 3rd party development. If it's a budget system and is more powerful than Switch I'm actually all over AtariBox. Maybe Atari will do what Ouya should have done. Go Atari! lastly......give me some tempest 2000!

I won't be surprised. No matter how much power Atari puts into their console, they don't have a tinker's toot of a chance at beating Nintendo. At most the Atari can overtake the Virtual Boy, that's for sure. Maybe.

For me the only impact it'd have would be on the price. If it's more capable than the Switch it's going to be way too expensive for an Atari branded machine. For me to be at all interested in what Atari is doing in this space it has to be in more of an "impulse buy" price range.

"Don't stir the pot" is a nice way of saying "they're too dumb to reason with"
All I know is if it's a budget system under 125 with the Nvidia chipset......I'm so buying one

This whole situation is just fascinating . Whatever Atari does with this AtariBox I'm going to be watching closely. Really the only thing that would kill it for me is that they make this AtariBox with a Raspberry Pi which could also be a possibility. I'm guessing a system with the Nvidia chipset though. I sure won't be surprised by that. A problem for me though, is that I mainly play RPG games as I get older. I like to relax and basically play a good story. Well, Atari has never been an RPG kind of system. So we will see.

@6ch6ris6 from what i understand its also to run current generation games which more than likely will be Android and iOS ports which is mainly what we are getting from Switch anyway

I haven't really had any fun with Atari's older games in years now. I was into them as a kid somewhat, but for me, nostalgia isn't spelled A-T-A-R-I. More like N-I-N-T-E-N-D-O and S-E-G-A.
And if it truly is capable of playing "modern" games, then I'm curious as to what that means. If it's just samplings from app stores, you can count me out.
And being stronger than the switch? Yeah, THAT'S a real milestone isn't it? [/sarcasm]
Atari Box is basically for the ones who grew up with the Atari (which is myself and I'm sure many others). Nobody really cares if it will compete or not (it's not meant to). The way I see it, it will be like the Retro-Atari boxes that you can find in the stores, but have more updated graphics to the games, and can then be used for Atari to manufacture other games. I own a PS4 and will be getting a Switch eventually...but I'm hoping to get an Atari Box too (depending on what is coming to it, and even if it's just the old Atari games, I'll get one...also depends on the price). Other than that, Atari is a very small studio now, so if they were making games for it, they'll be cheap and light, or just one game per year. Other than that, even if it does have a bigger processing power (which it could), does it really matter on Switch or Ataribox???? NOPE!!!! Anyways, they still have yet to show it off, and I don't see them doing that until the holiday period...unless it's coming out during that time, and I don't see Nintendo, Sony or even Microsoft having to worry about them competing...don't forget that there is still plenty of rumors of Sega making another console too, and if Atari is doing it after being out of the game scene since the late 80's...it could happen again with Sega. Other than that, don't forget that Atari was the first console to arrive for home gaming (with nintendo even putting games on it)...but it wasn't Atari that killed it, it was various publishers that drove it in with junk games. Nowadays, the console that is number one for the generation, gets a bunch of junk games too, and it's been like that since Atari...NES, Genesis, PS1, PS2, PS4, Wii. It's not going to change, but don't think that Atari is looking to compete.
@JLPick I think you nailed it. They have to know that this won't be able to compete with big name consoles. This is just to make money on the side. Not saying it won't be good though.
The Atari logo crops up in the Blade Runner 2049 and Ready Player One trailers. They are certainly getting their logo into the right people's consciousness.
I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.
@JLPick yeah I agree with that. If it's a budget system like 125.00 or less and the games to download are decent and priced right, I will be getting one out of curiosity. It probably won't become my main system or anything but the fact it should just be different will be enough for me. I think it's an exciting prospect and just alot of fun to think about the possibilities when more than likely it will not be up to my expectations. But still fun stuff. Tempest or at least a new version of tempest or tempest 2000 better be on it
