I heard one person complain it isn't like the originals and laughed. Mainly since the old Tomb Raider games, even coming from a lover of late 90s gaming, are very, very not good.
Honestly everything I've seen and heard from the game suggests it avoided almost every problem I thought it would have.
Honestly it's a shame that SE's biggest franchise is Final Fantasy, since the frustrations of that series' current direction tries to overshadow all the good it has done as a publisher. Seriously, they've become the shining example of how to successfully reboot franchises.

The next Final Fantasy game should be a reboot.
Literally call it "Final Fantasy" and throw the kind of resources that they threw at Eidos to make this game at it.

I don't know as I'd say all the older Tomb Raiders are bad. TR 1 & 2 are pretty good games as are Legend and Underworld but I would agree this new game is easily the best the franchise.
You're right on about SE as a publisher. It's helped release some of the best games this gen with Tomb Raider, Sleeping Dogs, Deus Ex Human Revolution and Hitman Absolution but because of the stupidity with the franchises that helped make Square and Enix big names in the industry, all the good that's been done outside of that is almost completely ignored.
Well I got a chance to play this game this weekend, and all I have to say is OMG what a game. I only got to play it for a few hours but I am totally hooked on this game. Its been awhile since a game like this has hooked me. I am enjoying this game alot more than the previous titles in the franchise. I can see this game being my top choice for game of the year this year.
