It'll help that PSVR will probably get a lot of exclusives that are developed with its specs in mind. Of course the PC headsets will most likely provide a more impressive overall experience, but let's be honest: if people wanted the best performance from their games, they'd be gaming on PC regardless.
PSVR will be much more accessible to the average gamer than Rift or Vive, and if Sony pushes it hard with bundles and strong software support, it has the potential to take off.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
You seem to be forgetting that the Wii U was available to buy nearly fifteen months before the PlayStation 4 was released, hence the current sales gap, therefore any Wii U (sales) victory is hardly worth 'celebrating'.
I just had an issue with you coming into this thread (that you never venture into) just to say that because the PS VR is affordable, it must be worthless compared to the other two niche and overwhelmingly expensive VR choices.
I especially like how you chose to ignore my perfectly logical and sane reason(s) for why people are happy with PS VR. It is going to be the most enviable piece of technology for both kids and adults alike come Christmas time.
Like I explained to you a million times when we were discussing this the Wii U was outselling(in Japan) ps4 at the time at the same point of lifetime. Sigh... You make no logical arguments at all and you have no idea where I'm venturing to which forums and when. Just to show how silly your last comment is Sony said that their POS device is not suitable for kids under the age of 12 or 13. That's how VR works. So yes it will be just as niche just not as good. It's basement stuff not for kids under the tree.
Ratchet and Clank has been getting very, very good reviews!
Lots and lots of 9's (out of ten) and half a dozen 8's and 10's respectively.
The price is a wholeheartedly positive talking point; $40/€35/£30 is absolutely brilliant value for money, and thoroughly deserved to be praised for this.
The main story lasts a shy over ten hours whereas going for all the bolts and collectibles - as well as completing the challenge mode - takes almost twice as long.
It's the perfect game to compliment Dark Souls III too.
Chuffed to bits to see the return of Ratchet and Clank!
@Peek-a-boo: You sound like you're happy. Hope you end up liking the game when you play it.
These games aren't for me I don't think, I was informed that A Crack in Time was one of the better ones, at least of the PS3 games, but I thought it was a fairly humdrum platformer. Nothing more nothing less. Going off of reviews there's every chance this game is better, it certainly is a looker, and the pricing is undeniably a great thing. I have more than enough to see me thought to Fire Emblem Fates in May though so I'm going to be a complete cheapskate and wait for it to get even cheaper. Sorry Insomniac but you did get £20 off of me for Sunset Overdrive and I've barely touched it since, now ruling that decision due to this month's Games with Gold.
These are the same devs that made the PS1 Spyro games are they not? If so I'll give 'em credit for 3 Year of the Dragon alone, that was amazing for its time, and still great toady.
@TheLastLugia:
It seems this new R&C game is more in line with the older ones from the PS2 era, which were better than the PS3 games (which were good but not great). And yes, this is the same studio that made the original Spyro games.
Yeah, I too preferred the adventure, platforming and shooting mechanics in the original Ratchet & Clank games on the PlayStation 2 more than the all-out futuristic action focus on the games that were on the PlayStation 3.
I still very much enjoyed the dual campaign of playing as both Ratchet and Clank in 'A Crack in Time' though.
This new one is setting a new benchmark in (console) visuals. Just look at these glorious in-game captures!
Played R&C about 4 hours straight and got through 4 or 5 planets. The game is absolutely brilliant in all aspects. The screens don't do the graphics justice and it's just plain fun to play. I love darker, more story heavy games like The Division and Quantum Break, but this game is a much needed change of pace for me. Gotta give Insomniac a lot of credit for this one, R&C seemed to be in quite a bit of rut with the lame spinoffs and the very weak cash-in that was Into the Nexus, but this game gets it back on track phenomenally well. I hope it sells great so we can get more R&C on PS4.
The March NPD is out in the wild, and whilst I don't have to do this often, I will hold my hands up and say that I was wrong last month at my dismissal of the NPD results. Well technically I wasn't wrong, The Division was the best selling game and PS4 was the highest selling system as I 'predicted', but when I said that the NPD never gives any surprises or reasons to be happy about gamers' tastes anymore I am now happy to say on that front that I was mistaken. Far Cry Primal, a great idea and a very fun game, has done brilliantly, but the big talking point without doubt is that Street Fighter 5 was nowhere to be seen in the top 10, with two of the three exclusives on there being Twilight Princess HD (in third would you believe)....
And Pokken. Pokken Tournament.
Somewhere, someone to do with making big decisions at Capcom is taking their last took at the old offices before leaving for good. Oh well.
But who knows, maybe Street Fighter 6 will revive the franchise when they focus test it on a group of twelve year old male CoD players. Worked for Resident Evil did it not?
But for now, the greedy and scummy company has failed. How the mighty have fallen eh?
After a rough day this was just what I needed to get my spirits up. This and the Splatoon Splatfest being an amazing theme.
Sony funded SF V, should've had its foot planted firmly in Capcom's a$$ knowing what a pathetic company it has become but oh well. I'll be more interested in next month's charts and the months after that. I miss getting mid-budget, but awesome games like Ratchet & Clank, platformers are especially absent on PS4 and Xbox One, so hopefully if R&C does well enough Sony and others take notice. Aside from that, the game is brilliant and deserves to do well for that reason alone.
@TheLastLugia: That's not really that interesting; Pokkén outsold SF in its second month. Now the interesting part is when you line up the week by week sales. SF outsold Pokkén in its first week by a good 80,000. However, Pokkén sold twice as many copies in its second and third week. Pokkén (after just 3 weeks) is just 40,000 below SF after 7 weeks. It'll be interesting to see how that pans out. By the looks of it, Pokkén will soon have more copies sold than SF. Never expected anything like that.
Seems that Mr. Luigi likes to converse about the NPD sales after all!
Final monthly numbers are:
PS4 = 330k (83,000 a week)
XB1= 242k (60,000 a week)
WiiU = 66k (16,500 a week)
The Xbox One is now $299 including Quantum Break or The Division, which is $50 cheaper than a standalone PlayStation 4 and is still producing a near 100,000 sales gap every month so far this year.
Always nice to see the Wii U doing well software wise too, even though the Wolf Link amiibo admittedly helped Twilight Princess HD more so than if it wasn't included.
The Microsoft PR continues to provide a chuckle too:
“Last week, on April 5, 2016, we were proud to announce that Quantum Break had launched worldwide to critical acclaim. Today, we are excited to share that Quantum Break was the #1 best-selling Xbox game around the world last week, and is now officially the biggest-selling new Microsoft Studios published IP this generation. In addition, last week Quantum Break was the #1 most played new game on Xbox, worldwide.”
Makes it sound like the game did well with a rather obtuse choice of terminology. Just how many new games were available last week, for instance. What does 'critical acclaim' mean in the world of Microsoft?
I certainly hope the PR man or woman is getting paid well!
Mr Luigi, I like that I have to say. I also have to agree that Microsoft see proving to be a very reliable source for a monthly chuckle with their statements. That one is just so much dodging around the issue its too much.
But yeah the big winners for Q1 in general have to be Ubisoft, Nintendo and Sony. And April's should be interesting to see where Ratchet charts after all the adulation and to see if Star Fox manages.
Oh and now that I've gotten over my initial fits of laughter at Street Fighter V I have to say that I agree with what you're thinking dude that it's just a shame that it's managed by the only company more incompetent than Nintendo at their best.
looks at Neogaf threads *
But then again there's still some fun to be had here...
I appear to put an 'I' where the 'a' should be, but yes, it does suit you more!
The whole Street Fighter V bobbins went over my head, mostly because I was playing, learning and thoroughly enjoying the game for the first month until the likes of Firewatch, Unravel, The Witness and (now) Dark Souls III came along.
The March update was pretty good, especially Alex however, it does seem like a case of 'too late' outside of both the fanbase and the professional Street Fighter circles.
Nintendo continues to do well in the software stakes in the US, which is always a small cause for celebration. Sony has the MLB franchise that does well for them, along with a bigger slice of the pie when it comes to the third party games.
Ubisoft must be pleased with themselves, even though I have zero interest in both Far Cry: Primal and The Division. In fact, I cannot remember the last Ubisoft game I bought that wasn't created using their fantastic UbiArt framework (Child of Light, Rayman Legends and Valiant Hearts: The Great War).
@Peek-a-boo: I'll wrap up my contribution this month by just asking you why when Nintendo get 3 & 4th place in the SKU sales in a month and one exclusive in the top 3 overall it's a "small cause for celebration"? Hope you're not gonna be singing and dancing next month when/if Ratchet breaks the top 5 like it's the discovery of the cure for cancer. You know, because that would be really hypocritical. Any exclusive selling these numbers is fantastic.
@TheLastLugia: It would be a lot better if they had high numbers for both software and hardware. Still, Wii U software sales have been pretty impressive when you take hardware sales into account.
