@FishyS That's fair, yeah. Consoles still have value for those who don't get into PC gaming. It's just that it feels like current gen platforms still don't get many games that either take advantage of their hardware or stay exclusive for long (given that they keep backporting their games to previous gen consoles). I used to not want to PC game since I thought it would be a hassle to build or upkeep a PC- but I personally enjoy it way more than having a console. More games I can play, and no more being tied down to the ecosystem of Sony or XBOX. Steam also makes me feel a bit more safe in terms of purchasing digital versions of games- where as with console I would never purchase a digital game, given how easy it is for larger companies to just rip it away from the player.

Every PlayStation machines I have are worthy since they have different signature games that I can collect and play.
PS1 = DDR games, K-1 games, Boxing + Kickboxing by agetec, Chocobo Racing, Pocket Fighter, Tail Concerto, etc.
PS2 Japan = Konami Rhythm games (DDR, Para Para Paradise, Drummania, Beatmania IIDX, Pop'n Music, Keyboardmania), K-1 games, Monster Farm 4, etc.
PS2 USA = DDR games, Western 3D cartoon franchise games, The Sims games, Harvest Moon games, etc.
PS3 = Random Western cartoon franchise games, Move games, Skylanders games, Ratchet & Clank games, Sly Cooper games, The Sims 3 games, FF XIII, Ni no Kuni, etc.
PS4 = Home builder games (The Sims 4, Dragon Quest Builders 1 + 2, Portal Knights), Farming sim games, Ratchet & Clank, 3D platformer games, Western cartoon games by Outright Games / Merge Games / Team 17 / Game Mill / Microids, Nexomon games, indie games by Indonesian developer, etc.
PS5 = Western cartoon games by Outright Games / Merge Games / Team 17 / Game Mill / Microids, Ratchet & Clank game, 3D platformer games, the PS4 games that get 60 FPS boost on PS5,
@VoidofLight I'm not too worried about digital games being ripped away. Digital Wii games continue to be re-downloadable almost 20 years later. As for steam? It could be bought by a larger company, start being publicly traded, Gabe Newell could die.. any number of things could totally cause the rules steam currently works under to drastically change so I certainly wouldn't trust valve more than other companies; I trust it less than Nintendo personally although I can't say I especially trust Sony either.
@FishyS The issue is that Sony proves they're able and willing to rip away people's games. Even if Valve is sold- or if Gabe dies, there'll still be ways to get ahold of the games on PC. You aren't outright tied down to Steam. On something like Playstation, you're stuck with the ecosystem as a whole. Those games you paid for are at the mercy of the people who run the ecosystem- and if they dictate that you can't play a game anymore, then you're basically stuck with the inability to revisit it.

@VoidofLight The funny thing is that, apart from the narrative, Stellar Blade undoes what I liked so much about NieR: Automata, which is that it made the Platinum Games style of stylish character action accessible for non-action fans like me by streamlining it and replacing the mechanical depth with RPG depth.
I've come to the same conclusion re: Nintendo and console gaming. PC and Nintendo is all you need going forward, assuming the other manufacturers don't change course pretty dramatically.
Nintendo is the last of the traditionally Japanese console brands left on the market, and is also the only one that still fully understands what console gaming is supposed to be about. And they're winning for it. It's deeply satisfying seeing Nintendo be SO successful this generation while the competition suffers from wildly delayed and unprofitable first-party products because of the choices they've made.
But I've always said that, at least as long as some of the old guard of the company is alive and engaged, Nintendo will always be in the race, regardless of whoever else in the industry is currently drawing in more revenue. Sony and Microsoft make way more money than Nintendo, but they're also spending way more money.
Switch is the only platform left that feels like a classic console platform. Like the PS2 or SNES. Now more than ever, I truly value their place in the industry.

@Ralizah
Let's not forget the 3rd party KIDS games on both PlayStation and Nintendo machines.
Peoples here are too busy thinking about AAA adult games and completely ignoring the existence of the 3rd party Kids games that might have good gameplay potential.
Also, Nintendo is not the only one company who make kids games.
The 3rd party developers also contributed the upcoming kids games.
By keep saying Nintendo 1st party games are the only one worthy games, it makes the existence of 3rd party kids games became forgotten.
They are exist but a lot of peoples still have too good to play kids games mentality.
@Ralizah Hmmm I get that Nintendo are doing great but other Japanese studios are killing it with their releases especially FromSoftware. I mean Bloodborne and Elden Ring are amongst the BEST games ever created and they are modern releases. Capcom is another example that knows what gamers want with their iterations of Resident Evil games.
Actually, Japanese studios are making BETTER western games than western studios I do not know how a Japanese studios that share different culture than mine are making products that are so appealing to me.
Ubisoft are digging themselves into a hole with pure incompetence and mediocrity. This is one example of the fall of many studios and more will close doors soon.
I LOVE Nintendo but I want from them to have a dedicated division for adult games. It will be interesting what they come up with.
@Zuljaras I'm not saying Nintendo is the only developer doing a good job. I'm saying they're the only platform holder that isn't lost in the weeds right now.
I liked Elden Ring and Dark Souls quite a bit. I've played Bloodborne twice and disliked it both times, so I'm afraid I'll never understand the love for that game.
"I do not know how a Japanese studios that share different culture than mine are making products that are so appealing to me." I mean, it's not like you have to enjoy Western-developed games just because you're situated in a Western culture. I've always preferred Japanese-developed games.
I've never quite understood why people want Nintendo to abandon its family-friendly roots so badly, personally. Microsoft and Sony, when they are releasing games, are usually filling them with violence. What's the harm in one of the big three reliably turning out family titles? Besides, it's not like series such as Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, and sometimes Zelda don't tackle darker subject matter.

@Zuljaras Ah. Yeah, pretty much every major issue I have with the industry tends to originate with Western (primarily American) developers. For me, Japanese video games are what keep me engaged in the hobby. ❤️
I will say this, though: the Western indie scene has produced so many cool experiences. I don't think it's a coincidence that a LOT of these developers pretty heavily and explicitly draw from their experiences with Japanese games earlier in life.
As we saw with Emio, Nintendo is willing to branch out a bit when there's an interest in doing so. I just don't think there's a lot of interest in developing violent and/or sexually provocative games at Nintendo in general. And I'm happy for it, as, even though I'm opposed to censorship, I do think the media we consume as a culture has become far too nihilistic in its approach to extreme subject matter. People today are bombarded with violence and sex on the internet, in their TV shows, and in video games from other developers. Most young adults now will see tons of depraved, hardcore porn before they ever begin dating, which really impacts their perception of and relationship to sensuality.
Nintendo is a refuge from that ugliness, and it's why, should I ever raise children, their first games will be ones developed by Nintendo.
@Ralizah that is true. Games tend to be very sexually and politically charged. I admit I like gory games but only if it has a purpose. Bloodborne is my guilty pleasure in that regard
I do not see purpose in sexual content in games. I prefer only hints of romance like in Zelda.
And yes, when we have kids Nintendo will be the first exposure
@Zuljaras Oh, I love plenty of gory games, too! As a lifelong horror fan, I've actually had a long exposure to extreme content in media and was a bit of a gore hound when I was a teenager.
That's getting less true as I get older, but yeah, if it has a purpose, I'm fine. Nobody wants to play a bloodless Resident Evil game lol.
I wouldn't personally mind more explicitly romantic stories in Zelda games, but that doesn't mean I need to see Link go to town on Zelda or whoever, you know?
Do you have a planned 'first game' you think you'll expose your kid to?
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
@Ralizah I think I will start with the basics. Mario games (including the NES era). Loved Tiny Toons on the NES. Also Darkwing Duck, maybe Toki So much to choose from
2 player mode in Bubble Bobble, after some years Contra!
Then we will progress to Zelda for some fantasy stuff and see where we go from there
The gory stuff will come waaay later in life after LOTS of explaining ofc.
@Ralizah Honestly, I kinda wish Nintendo would branch out a bit more and make a wider variety of games for multiple audiences. Mainly because I want to see what game Takahashi wanted to make when he mentioned that he wanted to do a game that was more violent and sexual than his other works. I also just want to see Monolith do something comparable to Xenogears again in terms of the game's content and themes.
As for first party? I don't think Nintendo should branch out too much. While there's some cool concepts they could do- I don't see them fitting their respective series at all.
"It is fate. Many have tried, yet none have ever managed to escape it's flow."
@Ralizah I mean, true but I meant "first party" in the sense of Nintendo's actual internal development studios.
Also I know, but I still personally just want to see what Monolithsoft can do with another M rated game. Something deeper and more profound with the type of stuff Gears had. Just want to see what Takahashi wants to actually do without restrictions from Nintendo themselves.
