I'll try not to say too much about the leaked reveal, although it's meant to go live very soon at the Star Wars Celebration. For those that have seen it, what are everyone's hopes/dreams regarding the sequel?

I'm looking forward to the campaign, and the tidbit they've gave us in the trailer is an attractive enough hook for me to bite, although I'll probably be spending most of my time in the multiplayer. I spent literally hours in the MP for the first game, and am glad that they're going cross-era for this one. I'm really hoping that they don't skimp on the prequel content, and would really like to see Naboo represented in glorious HD graphics, along with other locations such as Coruscant. I hope Battle Droids and Droideka's ("Master, Destroyers!") make a return too as they were super fun to play as in the older games.

What is everyone else looking forward too? Any particlar characters/locations you'd like to see represented? Any gameplay changes you want?

I wish that they make it less arcadey and more like a standard battlefield type of pace. Cant wait to play this.

I hope it's just a HD remaster of the original. That would be just perfect.

I hope they stop making it a lesser version of Battlefield set in utterly empty quasi-open world maps and make an arcadey dang class-based, third-person shooter (that is NOT a moba either). The new game just didn't have the appeal of the older games unless you were enthralled by the Star Wars skin spread over everything. If they could nail hero battle — or even just make enough heroes for there to be a hero battle — that would be great. As I recall the new versions of Darth Vader, etc controlled really loosely compared to how Mace Windu, etc used to toss their lightsabers, do force pulls, and all that jazz.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Peek-a-boo

As someone who has played the online multiplayer side of things on Star Wars Battlefront for nearly 60-odd hours since Christmas 2015, I would just like more of the same to be honest!

I never played the original Star Wars Battlefront, therefore I don't have anything else to compare it to.

I openly admit that the game is quite simplistic in terms of gameplay mechanics however, there's something about having a very even playing field where skill (and a bit of luck!) is the main draw, as opposed to all those unwelcome and overpowered power-up boxes/cards/items that are artificially left scattered around various maps in other hyperactive multiplayer shooters.

It's just one weapon, two chosen extras for the left and right shoulder buttons (usually a grenade of sorts) and a star card that can only be used sparingly.

That's it.

Probably sounds shallow for some, but to me, it is a visually impressive looking (and sounding) game with an authentic Star Wars skin along with 'gameplay rules' that's accessible and easy for everybody to understand.

And we can now look forward to playing as Darth Maul too!

@Tasuki

I usually hate remaster BS, but this is one instance I might be a huge fan. I loved the first two games, and thought the new one was extremely mediocre and incredibly overpriced.

I hope they make it almost identical to the first Battlefront2 but with better graphics.

The galactic conquest mode in that game was so fun!

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

Peek-a-boo

@DarthNocturnal Wow, and to think that my 60 hours of playtime since Christmas 2015 was a lot!

I stopped at rank 40, as you can be that funny looking alien creature (Rodian?) on multiplayer. God knows how much longer it would take me to hit rank 100 though...

I spent a lot of time playing those survival maps on co-op though, which doesn't reward you any XP points.

Basically, I agree with your points. I am happy to let others pay to 'be' a character, but not for those class cards that usually costs 7,000 points that gives you new weapons, a new star card and a new throwable of sorts.

Aren't the 'bots' already there though? Playing the survival or battle modes let's you play either on your own or with somebody else (co-op) against a wave of enemies. Perhaps you are taking about something else?

And yeah, I agree; no season pass this time please, especially one that was almost priced the same as the base game. I did not buy the season pass until it was under £20 for the first time last September, when the Death Star maps/missions were available. I doubt I would have been a happy bunny if I had paid full priced for that...

I'm looking forward to seeing the full trailer today!

In order to do that you need DICE.

No, the REAL DICE, the Indie developer who actually made the games you are talking about: TSL, The SiLents. (Yes, before the worst generation, indies made battlefield, after 'the rise of the indies' they make 8-bit sidescrollers...)

EA bought out dices stock, then after they fully owned the studio, gutted DICE, replaced the staff, and proceeded to milk their franchises with consecutively disappointing sequels to this very day.

Here we go!

You play as a female hero on the Empire/First Order side during the campaign!

Talk about an interesting direction to go! The campaign apparently spans across the prequels, the original trilogy and the new sequels over a period of thirty years. The trailer also shows Darth Maul taking on Yoda too; I wonder if this is this campaign or multiplayer footage?

According to a blurb on the EA webpage, the story of Star Wars Battlefront II will be canon in the Star Wars universe! And the multiplayer mode is now a class-based system. Not sure how I feel about that, but we'll see!

Super-duper excited about this one.

@DarthNocturnal In my defence, I was excited and read through everything a little bit quicker than usual!

Looks like you beat me to the YouTube video. I shall take mine down, seeing as one trailer is more than enough.

How do you feel about classes? I think it is fine for the Battlefield, Call of Duty and Destiny, but given that Star Wars Battlefront is aiming for accessibility for all, I think some folks could be turned off by this news.

Oh, and those 'epic modifications' pre-order bonuses need to die the swiftest death imaginable. I thoroughly despise them.

Peek-a-boo

Peek-a-boo

@DarthNocturnal I have been reading up about the classes, and it doesn't sound too bad in all honesty.

I am averse to classes in multiplayer games, as I feel like the balance often tips slightly in favour for one (or two) classes over the rest, and given that the original Star Wars Battlefront has a very even playing field, it is just something that worries me a little bit.

This YouTube capture shows the four classes:

As you were saying, the season pass is no more, hooray! I believe that one person said 'no' then another person said 'I don't know' which then created unnecessary confusion before a different person altogether came out and said, 'there's no season pass'. Talk about a right old palaver!

Happy to let them offer monetised characters and cosmetics however, I thoroughly hope they stay away from weapon modifications and 'level up points'. As long as they handle the DLC and add-ons similar to how Overwatch does, I shall be a fairly contented man.

You got a personal favourite weapon in Star Wars Battlefront?

The A180 blaster pistol (Jyn's main weapon) is ridiculous good. I have no problem doing away with bacta bomb/dioxis grenade and a star card in favour of a gun with three different modifications; auto-blaster, sniper rifle and an ion launcher. I hope this makes a welcome return to Battlefront II!

I'm probably going to buy the game digitally this time round, after being kindly gifted a physical copy of the original for Christmas, seeing as it will be my one and only to-go multiplayer shooter later this year and beyond.

p.s. It's a shame that you and I cannot play with (or against) each other though...

DROIDEKAS!? Or, just the basic version of that!? I thought they were just going to make us play as a bunch of boring humans again! And the Mos Eisley map tooI can't wait to see which of the prequel planets they've chosen for maps — most of them make for so much more diverse, exciting play fields than what sets and special effects could achieve in the 80s.

A lot to unpack from that trailer. I like that they have at least the appearance of earnestly crafting a story. A visual mass medium like a game is a great way to span from episode 6 to 7, especially compared to a bunch of books that no one outside the fandom is going to read just to fill in the gap between two and a half hour movies. Plus, we can enjoy the screams of all the misogynists outraged that the new trilogy, Rogue One, and Battlefront 2 are all female-lead.

The class based stuff is cool. I don't understand it, but I hope they at least take out the cards. Not every game should have arbitrary cards — especially not Star Wars where the board games are digital in the first place. The $80 deluxe edition — a pricing model I contentedly paid $70 for to get all of the skins in Dragon Age: Inquisition — has 'upgraded versions' of all of the classes, a three day head start in multiplayer, and a head start in the shooter progression. We'll probably have to wait until after release to know what that means.

The base pre-order edition has 'ability modifiers' for Rey, Kylo Ren, and the Millennium Falcon, as well as some vague language equal to Nintendo own stylings: "Feel the excitement of Star Wars™ : The Last Jedi™ by pre-ordering Star Wars Battlefront II and receiving Kylo Ren- and Rey-themed looks inspired by the upcoming film, epic ability upgrades, and much more!"

I think that just means ep 8 skins as opposed to ep 7 ones. I think. Who knows what will modify their abilities, but I'm excited to play Rey's exclusive frost lightsaber on November fourteenth. Or not. Who knows if combat in this game is actually meaningful or not, but maybe they're actually delivering upon nostalgia instead of just nabbing the Battlefront name.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

Peek-a-boo

@DarthNocturnal The secondary fire for the K-16 Bryar pistol, if timed right, is arguably the most powerful weapon in the game. I had a good time with that gun - along with the sonic imploder and bowcaster - in my early days before I 'discovered' the A180 for the first time.

I don't think I used (or had much luck) with your weapons of choice though. I like/prefer to use the one handed pistols or blasters as opposed to the blaster rifles, heavy blasters and the targeting rifles, the latter of which I am genuinely terrible at using...

I'm a pretty aggressive player, and I don't like camping (or seeing campers) so, for me, the blaster pistols in CQC scenarios are my cuppa tea!

And yeah, I play the game on my PlayStation 4. It's still a very popular game, and you can instantly jump into the thick of things at any given time, even the (paid) DLC maps/modes.

Peek-a-boo

Peek-a-boo

@DarthNocturnal It's funny how you mention the K-16 Bryar being overpowered because, like I was saying on the previous page, it was my favourite weapon in the early days and whilst it was inevitable that I'd find a new favourite somewhere down the line, one of the reasons why I dropped the K-16 Bryan in the first place is because it no longer felt as good as it once was.

Now I know why, given that you described the weapon being 'nerfed'!

Oh well...

I know just the one person who has an Xbox One and we found matches quite quickly on the normal base-game maps however, the DLC content (that he bought the season pass for) was either a ghost town or we were having to wait an awful long time for a lobby to fill up. Thankfully, I don't see much of this on the PlayStation 4.

Oh man. I can already picture myself swaying by every other good game(s) this coming Christmas, and I will probably end up playing Battlefront II for a lonnggg time!

Peek-a-boo

Peek-a-boo

@DarthNocturnal Although I only ever used the jump pack to get around easier/quicker on the Bespin (Cloud City) map, it does make sense to make it available for certain classes this time round.

If you cannot hop in and out of a vehicle and take off (and land) at will, Galactic Conquest shall continue to be a pipe dream. It would also be a rather sparse Galactic Conquest mode if the maximum player count continues to be 24 vs 24.

I hope that some maps has three different tiers, like the Scarif (in Rogue One) DLC whereby you start with a big space battle, land your ship and fight on the beaches then defend your team from an AT-AT onslaught.

I am glad that they're moving away from the tokens and are putting a skill-based system in its place. Too many multiplayer modes had one too many stampedes to the nearest hero pick-up token. That's luck, not skill!

This screenshot makes me want the game noowww!

@Nintenerdguy It would be neat, but it won't happen. They already announced the platforms for Battlefront II, PS4, Xbox One and PC.

When Battlefront 2's director Mark Thompson was asked about a potential Switch release, he simply replied "That’s a question for another day…”

...maybe that day could be when they officially announce it at E3?!
