I don't know that anyone is giving this game a fair chance really. It's made by a team composed of former Naughty Dogs employees which leads me to think that this game could be great even if it isn't in Sonic Team's hands.
Also hadn't Knuckles always been a little oddly proportioned? I mean big bulky hands and little skinny arms that don't look like they could pick up the hands. Now he was just a late bloomer and grew a for overnight and got all on that juice with a possible slight relation to a Gorilla which makes his chest huge. That doesn't make it sound any better does it?

Naughty Dog stuff lacks a soul.
Rather have it made by the Team making the New Yoshi's Island (Really liked Team Andromeda).

Problem is this is SEGA. They made Lost World look really good till it ended up being soo mediocre. Basically most SEGA games end up being so bad and this game could be one of them.
It doesn't matter how much risk SEGA is taking here. If the game fails, it fails simple as that. And I'm not getting this one until I see more gameplay footage or someone's impressions after playing it on PAX or E3.
