It's mostly Pokemon names for me. Rayquaza, Suicune and Arceus are the ones it took me the longest to learn how to pronounce properly. While I do now pronounce the first two as ray-KWAY-za and SWEE-koon, I do still say AR-see-us instead of AR-kee-us.
interesting! In my head I say ar-KAY-us but I've actually never heard that one said out loud!

Thinking back, when I first started playing Final Fantasy, I called Chocobos, "CHOKE-a-boze" 😂 I don't play the ones when they started having spoken dialogue, so tbh I'm STILL not 100 about how to say this word 😅
My son is a Pokemon fanatic and has informed me multiple times that it was originally AR-see-us but they changed it to "kee" because the original sounded like a bad word in the UK.
And not really on the exact topic, but although I know Zelda's land is pronounced HIGH-rule, and I do pronounce it like that, the people who live there are and always will be HILL-ians to me.
My friend pronounces Beedle from Zelda Bee-d-lee instead of bee-duhl….. I now pronounce it that way sometimes just because it’s more fun to say-
“I paused my game to be here” -SmashBall35

I still keep calling the PlayStation nicknames with Indonesian pronounce despite I already knew their English pronounce.
For example, I called PS5 as Pay As Lee Mah (PS Lima), not Pee As Five.
@gcunit I always thought he said it like that for dramatic effect, like he said yoshi drawn out so it sounded like yoe-shi instead of the yosh-I, at least I think so.
Growing up I thought for sure it was Wal-ee-gi, because of the way he would pronounce his own name when selected in Toadstool Tour, DoubleDash, and/or Power Tennis (Can’t remember which ones specifically, but definitely GameCube era).
You know when Yoshi starts a new level by saying 'Yosh-i' in his cute voice, but the Smash Bros. announcer insists on calling him 'Yoe-shi'?
Yeh... the Smash Bros. announcer should have been fired a long time ago.
I thought about bringing this up but was worried it might be too controversial. Yoshi himself clearly says 'Yosh-i', so why do so many people say 'Yoe-shi'? I've even been told the latter is more accurate to the Japanese pronunciation, which it isn't!

@CinnamonRobin : Arceus should be pronounced as AR-SEE-US, but I think they eventually canonised the current "official" pronunciation so as to not sound too similar to British slang for dat bodacious booty.
I also used to pronounce Suicune as "sui-sine", as in "suicide" for the longest time because of the similarity in spelling (I hadn't watched enough of Season 4 of the TV series or 4Ever to have heard how it was supposed to be said).
A few years ago, an older co-worker pointed out that I had been misprononcing the word "privy", which I had been pronouncing like the first two syllables of "privacy". Boy did I feel silly.
well this begs the question, do you say PRIV-acy, or PRY-va-cy? i say the latter.
privy, I pronounce with the short "I" sound like the former, as it "privilege," which come to think of it is probably where that word comes from. i wonder if all these "priv-" words are related?
