@Haru17 I'm not judging it completely. I'm saying that I dislike the neutered effects and that the additional mechanics by and large seem like bloat. I'm satisfied that the core is intact.
You're just being plain hypocritical. How on earth do "look"/"feel"/"seem" not mean the same thing in this context?
@-Green-
I think it's really cool, and I'll definitely be interested in seeing monsters duke it out from time to time...
Just not always. A lot of the difficulty from hunts later in the game (and even earlier in the game) was when a Deviljho crashed the party while fighting Nargacuga. Or when Qurupeco called in a Rathian. Or when Rathalos came swooping in while hunting Rathian. So, those types of scenarios used to really add to the difficulty whereas here, it could work the complete opposite and make hunts even easier.
I'd be ok with this, provided it's only certain monster combinations, and provided there are still quests where multiple monsters will likely end up in the same area together and still target the hunter.

I could never split my focus to two monsters at once, and while that may be easier now with dual analogue control, I don't really care whether the new monsters tag team you or not (unless that's a specific mechanic like with Qurupeco).
@CrazedCavalier I'm hardly being hypocritical when everyone on this Nintendo forum has been rabidly against this game since the first trailer. It's all just reactionary drama, and I would be letting myself down to even attempt to value it as another human being's opinion.
I don't know why you keep going on about bloat. Was Tri's underwater and polish bloat, 4's aerial attacks and mounting, Cross' styles — all of which are in World in one form or another. It's just another game and new additions. Personally I don't care about removing the load zones. That being said, the areas look soooo much better than anything we've seen in the series so far, especially during fourth generation for the past two years (for the west). I don't know when level design became 'bloat.' Moreover, the monsters look more aggressive than in past games and rage seems to have been changed from a 'attack a little faster' mode to a life or death chase, which more than balances the changes to the stiff healing and item use animations.
@Haru17 They look like bloat/fluff because they detract from the core experience. Underwater/aerial stuff/styles added to it (though you could argue underwater took away more than it added, with slower and clunkier controls). Big maps and tracking are just a barrier that makes it take longer to get to the meat of the game-- they don't add to it.
"It's all just reactionary drama, and I would be letting myself down to even attempt to value it as another human being's opinion." You're incredibly stuck up and arrogant-- completely unable to handle differing opinions. You've just spelled it out for everybody in this thread to see. I'm not sure why I keep trying to argue with you when apparently the opinions of me and everyone else who doesn't necessarily agree with you are valueless and illegitimate. I've seen other posts of yours around here, and I'm honestly surprised it's taken me this long to reach the tipping point.
@CrazedCavalier I think I'm only arrogant because it's considered arrogant to not scream, yell at, and condemn every little pindrop to do with unreleased games. I don't feel that. What's more, I imagine not resorting to ad-hominem attacks is another aspect of my malicious arrogance.
You're not really explaining your position so much as dogmatically stating that anything other than hitting monsters is 'bloat.' Yes, it is not the same thing, but I think you'll need to play the game before you can decide whether it's bloat or not. I don't really understand why you're interested in a new game at all if you want zero new things. I'm sure there will be more monsters and attack animations to hit them with.
I think it's way too early to say whether this game is gonna suck and be full of useless new fluff/bloat or be super amazing. It's pretty useless for both sides to argue about something that they don't fully understand.
It could be great, or it could just be good/mediocre. We just have to wait and see at this point.
@JaxonH The way I saw it was that there was the big monsters "favorite food" monster and possibly "Arch Nemesis" monster. Or maybe that is just wishful thinking.

@KirbyTheVampire Exactly; but we can still make and discuss our observations in the mean time-- ideally without trying to shut down those who disagree with you via broad sweeping insults.

The amount of changes to this game affecting the core gameplay is starting to pile up... more than I'm comfortable with tbh. I'd expect all MH fans to at the very least ask the question "are all these changes for the better?" Maybe they are. Maybe they aren't. Maybe some are, and some aren't. But I wouldn't automatically grant every single change a free pass. It's pretty clear they're shooting for the western market, and alot of these changes can (potentially) lower the standard of difficulty.
We're potentially looking at multi-monster hunts fundamentally changed which would potentially make the game easier as you never have to fight more than one at a time. Omnidirectional rolls which will likely make evading far easier, cancelling animations so commitments for actions can avoid punishment, even dodge rolling out of animations... And much more. Scout flies eliminating paintball mechanic (I say that's a good thing, although the scout flies are so big and bright and intrusive it bugs me, even after finding the monster it keeps popping up, like go away already!), damage numbers (definitely a good thing)
Some of these are good changes, others are questionable. And maybe it'll turn out that most of them are balanced or a change for the better. Then again, maybe they won't and the game will become substantially easier as a result. It's too early to judge, but the questions need to be asked. They deserve to be asked. And possibly discussed and challenged.

@JaxonH Where has it been confirmed that you can cancel out of animations?
Because as @Tsurii says that basically screws up the fundamental core of the game.
I went from not interested in the game at all to being mostly on board to not being so sure.

I don't think the changes are with the core western audience in mind. For better, but more than likely worse, CAPCOM is gambling that World will sell better in the west than previous Monster Hunters. If they can double sales than the 3ds Monster Hunters than they made a great business decision. What worries me most about that is that if World does sell very well, I do hope it does, we might not get the rumored Switch Monster Hunter that is in development.
The best I can do is just wait until I see more of the game and start looking into the God Eater games as an alternative.

The console audience isn't primed for Monster Hunter's quasi-annual release schedule while the handheld one is. I don't know why people are afraid of there never being another portable Monster Hunter. We said that about console MonHan in 2013 too.
Anyway, what's an omnidirectional roll? I thought the dodge roll could always go in all directions.
The only core change I'm seeing is that all aspects of the game play faster. That will probably alleviate some newcomers' frustration with the animation priority or "bad controls" as they tend to see it. I think it will only make for more interactive, frenetic hunts with hunters being able to better match the speed of monsters.
Finally, it's awesome that this game will most likely sync up small monsters between different players online. That was one limitation of the games on 3DS that didn't need to be there. I hope hunters have collision so we can't physically overlap with each other now.
@Haru17 You technically can only roll forward naturally in older games, it just doesn't get in the way much when you can turn on a dime naturally. Some attacks also let you roll sideways, but that's the extent of it (not including weapons with hop evades).
@Grumblevolcano That's exactly what I fear: that World changes too much but does well enough that Capcom decides not to bring the traditional games over.

Ya, that was always a nuisance. See someone mining for ore in midair, or swinging at a monster you can't see. Not sure that was a 3DS limitation though. May have just been the amount of effort put into the netcode. Either way, it'll be nice seeing that addressed.
@meleebrawler
Ya, I saw dude do a backward roll. Straight backwards.
@zionich
I somehow get the feeling that if they pay for an English translation, they'll release in the west. And if they don't localize, the game will be JP only. I'm thinking they'll localize larger, "main" portable entries though. If Switch is hot, and the next game is exclusive for Switch, I imagine they'll wanna cash in on the popularity of World in the west, and offer fans another new MH game to buy on the one system that didn't get World. Which will have a lot of fans thirsty for a game, and World fans may buy a Switch for it, just like Switch owners will likely get a PS4 or X1 for World (or run it on PC later).
I'm still holding out hope for XX, later next year after World releases. But screw it. The game looks insanely good and with region free, I don't have the willpower to resist. World may have raised the bar, but I still think this game looks impeccable. https://youtu.be/kVuwQtUht8s

I don't understand the logic that 'if World succeeds in the west, then less Monster Hunter in the west.' It strikes me as illogical. It's not like they can annualize a game like World beyond one Ultimate release a year later (which even then will probably come as DLC). MH fans need to learn the phrase 'a rising tide raises all ships.' This jilted lover stuff makes no sense: Of course the portable games will continue to get localized.
@Haru17 The logic I am following is if World outsells say MH4U by a considerable margin, CAPCOM could see that as what the West wants and not spend the money to localize a portable Monster Hunter.
@JaxonH it looks amazing. My busy life is more favorable to a portable Monster Hunter and portable games in general, which is why I love my 3ds and Switch. I would love my Vita more if I can find more games to play =)
@zionich I don't think that's how companies think at all, lol. Sure if World sells big they'll make another console game, but that's a big if. And I don't know if the other MH team can even make a console fidelity game, so they would most likely keep making portable entries (which I'm surprised are transitioning away from 3DS to Switch so quickly to be honest).
I think it's just 'Monster Hunter sells well in X region' -> make more Monster Hunter for that region. You saw that to a much lesser extent with Okami (PS2, Wii) and Okamiden (DS).
