The environments they showed so far don't look that great but maybe it just needs more color.

I don't like the "follow the red dotted line" approach at all. The wisp thing you're following should stop showing you the way when you're in the same area or nearby. It looks bad but more importantly it takes you out of the world.
What's the point of this big seamless world when you're just following a stupid line like in Witcher 3.

Okay. Apparently you can switch between native vocals and MH language (which, FYI, is French phonetically converted back into Japanese) for people.

@Haru17
If this game does well then I bet we can see this style more often. Maybe even become the new standard like what Nintendo said about Breath of the Wild.
Which also might be why they didn't call it MH5 since they could be seeing how it turns out.

Looks great.

Biggest takeaway for me... combat looks legit, and the changes to animations seem to work well now that you can't just dip out of the area to heal up.

I think I may be overhyping this game a bit, but screw it. Not only will this new style of MH feel fresh, it will also help the traditional style feel fresh going back to it.

@JaxonH The lack of visual feedback for attacks is pretty jarring, TBH. On top of that, the bigger maps and accompanying mechanics feel like unnecessary bloat.
I need to see footage of people playing who know what they're doing.

I really wasn't feeling what I saw. On paper I should like all the new mechanics but watching it I wasn't really into it like I was the first time I watched a let's play of monster hunter years ago. The environments seem kind of bland to me as well but I'm sure there are better areas.

@Tsurii I think that they didn't attack to show the monster interaction. I am sure it would be able to attack as if the monster was eating in previous Monster Hunters.

I wonder how arena quests or quests where you have to hunt multiple monsters in the same area will be dealt with.

One point @Tsurii made is actually a very fair point, and something I've noticed myself.

Before, if 2 monsters were in the same area, it was insane because both monsters were attacking the hunter. How is that going to work now if every time a monster sees another monster they fight each other? Maybe only certain monsters attack certain other monsters, and there will still be quests where 2+ monsters are in the same area and attack the hunter at the same time...

@Xaessya World is way closer to its predecessors than Breath of the Wild. It's hunting action -> hunting action while Zelda is action/adventure/puzzler -> open world.

Anyway once again this thread is overreacting. The weapons got new animations — did you want them to be the exact same? The audio/visual feedback is made to be viewed in HD now, not on a 3DS screen. What's more, people on Reddit were talking about how blood is always turned off for trailers and promotional material. I love the new charge animation by virtue of both looking nice and not swallowing the hunter up in a vortex of glow that blinds you to their animations. Moreover, that consistent glow is a good way of teaching new players / players trying to learn a new weapon when they're doing something right or not. It's a far cry better than the insect glaive glowing one way, dual blades glowing another, and long sword glowing yet another.

Again, we have only seen the first area of this game. It seems pretty Deserted Island-y to me so far, but with underwater traded in for a myriad of types of environmental interaction (all of which you can ignore if you just want to hit the monster). Capcom confirmed that certain types of monsters will ignore the hunter (Great Jagras but not Jagras) unless provoked. Moreover, if you don't like the scout flies, don't carve the monster's footprints and mucus spots and they won't charge up to follow it. The same goes for Monster PvP: if you don't want a few free hits, don't lead your monster to the Rathalos' nest like they do in the E3 demo.

Since when do Rathalos and Rathians do nothing but fight when they see each other?

We haven't seen Rathian yet, though it's probably she's on this map because there are eggs in the treetop nest. I bet Rathalos and Rathian will have some sort of unique interaction.

@Haru17 Ignoring gameplay features doesn't nullify them-- they're still there, and you penalize yourself for not using them. Scoutflies 100% replace paintballs, and the fact that the areas are large enough to warrant them is telling of how bloated they are.

By your logic of "it's meant to be viewed in HD not on a 3DS screen", the animations should be even more distinctive and detailed rather than a singular consistent glow. There's no mechanical relation between GS charges and spirit attacks-- it just feels like corner cutting I'd expect from a Warriors game. Gen kicked the animations and particle effects like that up a couple notches, and it's disappointing that they're going the inverse of that direction and dumbing them down as much as possible.

You need to get of your high horse and stop labeling opinions you disagree with as "overreactions".

@Tsurii Honestly, the direction they're taking the GS is kinda expected in hindsight-- it originally didn't have a charge attack at all until Dos. Elements like the Strong Charge and X's nerf of the normal charge attack have shown that the devs want a hybridized GS playstyle-- compared to virtually everybody doing hit-and-run/draw+charge+evade+sheath with a couple hipsters using combo GS for fun. It's really the most changed of the weapons. With LS and Bow they were just spamming the one new attack (and whiffing it a lot)-- hammer seems to have more varied charges and the lance copied the DB's forward dash (while still keeping back hops), but all in all every weapon sans GS looks like how it should.

That's the issue right there. You're saying the only time two monsters will be together is if you lead one to another... well, that sucks. In all the past games you would have two monsters in the same area and you would be fighting them at the same time. Now from what you're saying is if you don't want free hits don't lead a monster to another, and that's fine, but that means you will never see two monsters together. Ever. And if you do they'll be fighting each other, not fighting you.

I mean I love the game but if what you're saying is true, that really sucks.

If you don't want me to call your overreactions overreactions, don't judge a game completely before you've seen even one tenth of it. When they made the visual effects for Cross giant and obstructing in the first trailer I didn't go on about trash game this, not Monster Hunter that. Just give it a second to breathe before you make declarations that are ultimately doomed to hindsight.

@JaxonH We saw in the demo how the Anjanath and Great Jagras crossed paths without the hunter's prodding. Nose beat up belly, which would probably just make multi-hunting a lot more feasible in the final game. We know that monsters each have their own domain and unprompted pathing, some of which overlap naturally, and some of which have to be provoked (presumably like Rathalos v Anjanath).

@Haru17
I just wanna know if two monsters will attack the hunter together, so we can have multi monster hunts that aren't just one at a time.

Fighting a Rathian and Rathalos in tandem is almost mandatory for a proper MH game. It's gotta have it. It's gotta. If I don't get to hunt a Rathian and Rathalos at the same time, tag teaming against me... I'll be sorely displeased 😖

I'm really happy that now at least most monsters won't just tag team if they see you. I always hated how completely different monsters would completely focus on you and ignore the fact that another huge behemoth was also in their territory.
