Uh, the monsters in World were actually reanimated and redesigned, not just taught to climb like most of the returning monsters in 4 and Cross. Anyway, I was never really struck by Zinogre, Akantor, Fatalis, Kushala, etc's themes. Some of the composition from 2nd gen as it was presented in 4th gen was just... okay. I wouldn't say they struck a heroic chord for me in the same way as Bazelgeuse's did.

I think the Zorah Magdaros fight had to have us do the canyon fight, ride it to the ocean, then do the whole bombardment phase. It's a really cool fight with the volcano literally erupting as you're moving around on it and vertical climbs turning to slopes before becoming flat ground — it just needed a bit better execution.

For one, I think the process of physically mounting a monster was a huge part of the raid-style giant monster fights. Cuts were a big problem with Zorah, make mounting, Nergigante showing, dismounting, and repelling it seamless and some of that goes away. Despite how new World is, it's also the stiffest giant elder dragon since like Shen Gaoren. Even whales like Jhen Mohran could jump over the sandship artfully. If Zorah moved in more complex ways, had more methods of attack, was less confusing to navigate, and if Nergigante chased you around and had to actually be repelled to win the quest would be a lot more engaging than what they edited together. Still enjoy the fight though, the new canons and ballistae have great feedback.

Oh, and I think which wingdrake you travel on, your hunter's knife, scoutfly cage, slinger, and which parts of an armor piece you can color should be individually editable — Capcom are really missing out on monitization, so why not add these kind of options? Seriously Mernos are boring, Effluvium Raphinos please.

The Zorah fight is a whole lotta waiting.

I'm not sure what that has to do with music themes. So because they were "actually reanimated" that makes their music sounds better somehow? What am I missing here

I thought fighting Zorah was mediocre. Not bad nor great. The story for him felt weak since he is the ultimately the driving point but only last for like what, two quests? The only thing I liked about those missions is how awesome when the commander voice cracked "GOOOOooooo!!"

I actually think it might be better if they make a cool Elder Dragon that isn't a mount based that you would meet fights you but doesn't die till the end or something. At least it gives a better driving point than this Behemoth that only lasts for two missions. Or it would be kinda cool to see more Colossus mountain base type of monsters with a different variety to it. Like for example the final one will be you fighting elder dragons on it and hunting them on it's back. Sure it might be long but you get a ton of rewards for just completing it and there is always an option to go back and replay that quest again.

I'm kinda starting to lose interest. Bayonetta just dropped, and I wasn't really planning on playing it yet, I just wanted to start the game and get a save file going, but I ended up playing for like 3-4 hours. Game is just really freaking good.

I think I need to stop playing Bayo (for now) and force myself to stick to this. I let the same thing happen to me with MHXX as soon as I made my G rank armor set, and it sucks because once you stop playing, it's really easy to never come back.

The problem for me is, I'm HR 14 and have a full page of 7 star optional quests to do, and the weekly bounty that just started. And I don't even have an assignment to do next. I've got to go find tracks. And I really want to do the optional quests before I move on, and I really need that gold ticket because gold ticket = gem and gems are a necessity for end game crafting. But it's hard to get motivated to do all these optional quests and go fight another 5 Elder dragons (which my choices are basically Nerg and Kushala, and I've hunted Kushala to death and have 2 gems left over so it would definitely be Nerg), and another 4 Diablos and another 3 Kula Ya-Ku.

Idk. Seems the crafting carrot at the end of the stick is a huge motivator. Now that I have my ultimate end game set, that carrot has been swallowed whole.

@JaxonH Seems like I was talking about a different point you made. I don't have anything further to say about the music than was in my previous posts.

@Tsurii I guess the Godzilla part of Zorah is a version of Lao-Shan Lung. You only interface with that part of it by siege fire though, spending the rest of the time on the volcano shell. I do wish we could replay the Grand Ravine version, although dropping the stalactites was an awesome addition to giant monster battling.

Anyway, I just dumped my entire playtime with Generations into this in like two weeks, after however many days I played the betas. The context here is that I am a very slow gamer. Trying to get the special arena quests for the rainbow pigment is pretty unintuitive, so I'm not too worried about taking a break. After all, there're going to be plenty of opportunities to play World with the DLC and from friends' requests.

I've got a long ways before I hit my Gen playthrough. 400 hours in Gen, not counting XX. I should have had way more (600 like MH3U) but I lost interest in that game before finishing also. Seems to be a running theme ever since MH4U.

Granted, I understand a lot of the filler has been removed, which makes it a much more pleasant experience. I figure at least 100 hours gets knocked off just for that alone. Which is totally fine by me. But ya, I think I'm at like... 100-150 (somewhere in between). That's a ton of hours for a single game (only put 200 into Zelda and 150 into Xenoblade 2) but compared to past MH games, it's not very much.

We just need more monsters. More monsters = more quests = more gear = more variants = double playtime. I hear this is how Tri was also, but I wasn't around for Tri, so Idk. I'm going to keep playing until I've at least hunted every monster in the game, but after that I think I'm gonna set it aside until G-Rank comes. By that time they should have released half a dozen other monsters as well (hopefully?), at the very least 2 or 3. Plus whatever gets added for G Rank. That'll be a good time to come back when there's a big chunk of content to play all at once. Getting one monster three or four months down the line isn't going to be enough to draw me back in, even if it's Deviljho.

I didn't realise that those gold tickets are useful. I've been mostly ignoring the weekly bounties up to now, but maybe I'll try to do it this week.

Since I'm done with the story, I've slowed down with this game and doing more optional things. Also made a start on that beta Nergigante armour, got 2 pieces crafted so far. It feels so nice to have that higher defence and not get carted all the time now. I don't have many useful gems yet, but figured that the extra gem slots on the beta set could be handy later on.

Smart move going for the beta. Even if it's just defense an elemental resistances, at least you can tailor those extra skills to your needs.

I too didn't realize how important the weekly bounty was, until my brother told me about it (ironic, considering I'm the one who's always trying to get him into the series and here he is teaching me new things). Ever since then I've made it a point to do every single weekly bounty. It's a way to get rare materials without relying on RNG. You can still get the gems by luck, but this is the way to lay a safety net just in case. It only equals one gem per week, but that's enough. Because usually it's just one or two gems you need anyways.

I just got 3... THREE Rathalos plates in the reward box... but still no gem. Dems the breaks. Thank goodness we can grind out a gem per week though. It really takes the pressure off.

Wyvern gems have ridiculously low drop rates and I need two of them for half of my weapon trees so spending a gold ticket on them instead of the farming Kushala again never fund would be madness.

Who am I kidding? The squid glaive needs 5 more Kushala horns, hrrrmmmnn....

Oh, I also need to do more tempered monsters because I still haven't unlocked honing or whatever.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

JaxonH

I need wyvern gems.

TeeJay helped me finish off my Elder dragon investigations, beat Xeno, and complete 5 tempered monster quests for the weekly bounty. Jumped up and am now at HR39. I just heard about augmenting, but I'm not sure if I care. Because I finally have access to streamstones, and I already hate it. I can't get a single dang decoration I want. And I've already melded everything I freaking have. So I've just given up. Screw it, ya know? I'm settling for what I have and I'm content with it. But I'm just thinking augmenting is probably going to be equally as annoying. Like beating that HR49 tempered Kirin... I don't even know if I want to try.

But now I feel like I'm well and truly done since the story is over. Think I'm just going to ride it out until I get tired of hunting. We'll see how long I can make it but I don't know if I have the will to take on that Kirin or even increase my HR high enough to attempt to take it on. It just sounds ridiculously hard. Even TeeJay was complaining about it.

That Val Hazak is something else though... man that thing is butt ugly.

The tempered Monsters I've fought so far were very doable. They're essentially just harder versions of monsters without any new moves, behaviors, or gimmicks like hyper/frenzy/apex.

Also feel the same - running out of things to do, I have numerous High Rank armour sets in the game now, I've farmed endless amounts of Tempered Monsters, mainly Elders. I've completed every quest available to me, I'm at HR70, 180 hours into the game and I spend a lot of time thinking, what to do now, other than grind gems, which just aren't falling for me at all and the items for augmentations and increasing my HR.

I'm not one for griding for achievements, they'll come over time. Might just take a break for a week or so and go back into it with a fresh head.

Personally I stopped playing after the real Nergigante battle. I think I’ve had my fill, and while I like MH it became a slog for me.

@Tsurii Yeah, it felt like I was just repeating things again, and I started getting busy again. Now I just don’t have the desire to play more. Maybe in the future.

On another topic. Nergigante is said to kill Elder Dragons (edgy) and surpresses their elderseals. Lore wise he was struggling to fight other Elders and was a buzzard towards Zorah yet gameplay wise he completely stomps them whenever he meets them. I guess it can be assumed he’s just more physically capable than the current Elders and by getting around their op abilities he has an edge in that regard. Although, lore and gameplay don’t always line up.

Monster Hunter lives and dies by its repetitive nature. It's both it's single greatest strength and its greatest weakness.

But I'll say this- this game was much less repetitive than previous entries. People don't know how good they have it. Back in the day, we dealt with 2% drop rates on skypiercers and cloudy moonshards. Some sets would require multiple gems to craft. If you wanted a new armor set, were going to earn every last piece of it.

The environments here, I think are what help it feel less repetitive more than anything else. But even those after a while, become rote and routine. It's unavoidable. Only thing they can really be done to prevent that is have a crap ton of maps. Once G rank is out, and the next game releases, and its G rank is out, then we should have like a dozen different maps. That will work wonders in helping it to always feel fresh with variety

Agree with some of that, disagree with some of that, but I can understand where you're coming from for all of it. I actually thought the last boss was pretty good. Not exceptional but... pretty good. Better than I was expecting after Zorah Magdaros. Let's just say that.

And agree about Nerg. I'm using his fully upgraded charge blade right now, and there is simply no other weapon that even comes close to touching it. There is one other charge blade that gets a small bit of white sharpness but, the white + blue portion doesn't even equal half of the blue portion on my current weapon, the attack is 80 lower and it loses the High Elderseal. Basically same Dragon dmg. Does gain a slot, but what does that matter when I can't get any decorations that are worth a squat anyways. I despise this new system for decorations. It was so much better when you could just craft what you wanted. It also gave you a huge reason to go out there and hunt more monsters because you needed parts to make more decorations for different types of sets. When it's all random, and mostly random garbage at that, I just don't have any motivation to go out there and hunt 50 monsters trying to find one earplug gem so I can swap out an Evade Distance arm piece.

And one of the problems with that is if all the other weapons are significantly worse then what's the point of going out and hunting to make those. So no reason to go out and hunt monsters to make more weapons and no reason to go out and hunt monsters for decorations and thus no reason to go out and hunt monsters for different armor pieces because without those different decorations you're gonna have a hard time making different mixed sets...

It could work with the number of monsters it has and the amount of content it has, but there has to be a reason to go out there and keep hunting. If we had more weapons that were viable for end game besides Nerg, and were able to craft our own decorations from monster parts... that would completely solve the issue, I think. I'd be out there right now hunting monsters to make the decorations I want.

That all said, what's there is extremely enjoyable. It's just that when you get to the end of it... it's like you're truly at the end of it.
