@Slapshot: I dont know I just think Duke Nukem is a bit dated now and maybe I was expecting something better for being in development for 14 years. I think they should have at least marketed this game as a bargin title or maybe an XBLA/WiiWare/PSN title.
I will just see how it goes once its out and see.
That "in development for 14 years" thing is a falacy.
There was not a team of developers sitting in a room tapping away on keys for 14 years to end up with this game.
That said - for a game that's gone through so much hell to get released, I'm not surprised it wasn't up to scratch. It's like expecting an art work to be good when one person starts it, then dies, then another person tries to finish it, and then another, and then another.
After 14 years of that, of course it's going to be a mess.
I find it so funny that the critics panned this so much. It's actually in red in metacritic lol (looked at the 360 version). Freakin' hilarious . Always makes me laugh.
The best Duke Nukem was Duke Nukem II for DOS... awesome 2D platformer/scrawler/fighter shooter, and I heard there was a remake for a Nintendo console. Want to play it through again. It was brilliant.
I thought we all knew the reviewers were gonna pan this game right from the getgo? Oh well. I'm still gonna get it someday, and I'll probably enjoy it.
Just FYI to celebrate DNF's release, Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project (the 3D side-scrolling one from 2002) is currently 60% off ($2.39) at GOG.com. The promo ends tomorrow. And apparently this one actually is good.
Duke Nukem is not that bad of a game but, the gameplay did feel a bit dated. The game had alot of ponit-less mini-games that you don't normally see in a FPS, and a few of platforming, that didn't feel right in the game. It may have taken 14 years to make but, it should have came out 10 years ago. If you compare Duke Nukem with today FPS games, it will look dull

My brother bought it yesterday- saw him play it for a little bit and well... Was really unimpressed. I really like Duke Nukem. I played with my brother and niece on N64 and had tons of fun- especially with jetpacks and the crazy CPU we ran away from a lot lol
And I may be exaggerating... But it looks like this game could have been done on the Wii too.
Just saying.
I'm assuming the reason for it's low score isn't entirely because of the game itself- but the over saturation of first person shooters in this generation, especially when we have CoD dominating the genre. Had this game been released- say, 4 or 5 years ago as it is now, then things would be different, no doubt.

Exactly now with shooters like Halo and CoD around Duke just isnt that impressive. WHen Duke came out years ago it was mainly them and Doom but now the market is so saturated with shooters. I still think that they should have made this game a budget title the very least like they did with NBA Jam.
It's not that it's bad or anything, but something as generic as this shouldn't have taken 14 years to put out. It's ridiculous, that this game has become such a legend, and yet here it is, and it's not even better than "average".
Not sure what the hell reviewers are talking about when they're trashing this game. Aside from the health regen, 2 weapon limit, and load times (Which could be patched), this is just as awesome as Duke Nukem 3D was. Been playing it non-stop pretty much since Tuesday, and almost have the SP 100%. Not sure what some peeps are smoking when they're trashing the visuals, it looks current-gen, what's the problem? About the controls, since nowadays people are used to hiding behind objects and taking shots here and there, Duke is meant to run in there guns blazing, and the controls are designed for it. So it's not about the controls feeling weird, it's the play style that FPS players have been condition to do. I waited 15 years for this game, and it was worth it, why? Because as much as he's been copied (Serious Sam), no one does it better. I wanted a FPS that was fun, mindless, and hilarious, something that doesn't come around often, especially in this age of FPS. Duke fills that role that no one else can.
Also, if it was any other "hero" that took 15 years to have a sequel, everyone would have forgotten.

Wow. Worst complaint against an FPS I have ever heard.

I like Duke Nukem Forever. It has an Classic FPS feel to it.

I see mostly negative reviews of this game. How could this possibly happen after fourteen years. It was the longest "in development" time a game has ever had.

pit and little mac say hi
6 years ago before Brawl was announced, nobody knew of Pit. Only a handful of people know of Little Mac. Duke has maintained celebrity status throughout his career since 1996. His last game, while being a spin-off, was in 2002.
