I can see this going really, really well, and really, really badly.

My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

Well, I guess Nintendo would be a good choice (if it happens). Mega Man seems to be getting the most love on Nintendo systems, same with Monster Hunter...(Sony kinda gave a big FU to western MH fans and Capcom). The biggest series on other systems are Resident Evil and Street Fighter, both of which are having a serious identity crisis (RE wants to try and compete with CoD, and SF is too poor to appease graphics whores) and are due for an overhaul anyway.

Who knows what will happen though. I almost wish they would just sell IPs one at a time (if that's possible). If that were the case Nintendo would HAVE to buy Mega Man and Monster Hunter.

LOL, I agree there is definitely room for disaster here.

I thought Japanese Companies are not allowed to be buy out by non-Japanese company? If so then I think Nintendo's chance is huge here.

As much as I'd like to see Nintendo buy Capcom, I doubt Capcom will allow themselves to be bought out by a console manufacturer. They'll most likely be bought by a 3rd party company like how Atlus was bought by SEGA to ensure they can keep making games for all systems.

Nintendo would be my first choice to buy capcom. Sony are in the midst of restructuring and likely couldn't buy capcom even if they wanted to. And then there is microsoft ........ they have plenty of cash but after what happened to rare I have no confidence in Microsoft's ability to make good use of capcom's IP's at all. Most of the staff from capcom's golden years have already left the company.

Even though I'd like for Nintendo to save Capcom the price will be very, very steep. Nintendo are just too savvy with their acquisitions to buy the whole company when clearly it's the IP's that are the most valuable part especially if Capcom has debts owing. My feeling is that it will play out like with THQ where several companies buy up the publishing rights to various IP's at an auction

To be honest, I would not be shocked if Konami made a move for Capcom. We've already seen Enix and Square, Namco and Bandai, and Sega & Atlus merge or buy each other out, so that leaves Capcom and Konami as some of the biggest Japanese third-party developers left that have not been bought out or merged..

And I doubt Konami would be ignorant to the massive potential of adding Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Resident Evil to their company catalog. In one move, Konami could control some of the biggest and most popular IPs in both Japan and the West.

In my opinion, Konami is the most likely one to make a move for Capcom. Sega just got Atlus and may not have the money to move for Capcom, Microsoft likely has no interest in buying a Japanese developer(they have passed on buying out Sega in the past), Sony may not have to funds to afford a company the size of Capcom, and Nintendo is simply too thrifty with their money to buy out Capcom.

Honestly I think Konami will be bought out before Capcom does...they literally have two retail games in development right now, and the last game they released was just a prologue...

This, because if the next Metal Gear fails then that will be the end of them. Funny thing is failure will probably be less the 5 million copies!

Konami is a much bigger company than Capcom, and they posted a profit in the past year. They also do more than Video games now. They are involved in various other business including trading cards, anime, slot machines, and even health clubs in Japan.

They are not likely to go anywhere anytime soon.

Nintendo would be an awful fit for Capcom. For all this talk of of Nintendo being a good fit were talking about the same company that terribly mismanages their own IP and goes for long periods with out games. You'd get the same output we get now just with the added benefit of a Megaman every 20 years.

Sony doesn't have the current cash flow to buy such a big entity and if they were going to acquire anyone it would be one of their 2nd party partners such as Ready at Dawn or Quantic Dream.

People tend to say Microsoft would be a bad fit by pointing to Rare and Ensemble studios, However you have to take into account that Microsoft different than it was then. I mean Skype and Nokia pretty much run as if they were separate companies. However Microsoft would be a terrible fit since they don't have an actual handheld as well it would kill Capcom's Japanese appeal.

The real truth is its going to be a third party that buys out Capcom due to the fact that a first party deal wouldn't fly with shareholders. A shortlist would be

Tenacent
Nexon
Gung-ho
Deep Silver

@Caryslan - So if they aren't making money with Video games anymore, what makes you think they have any interest in buying Capcom? I mean, they don't even have any interest in making their own games anymore, nor games from the IPs they bought from the Hudson aquisition, hell they hardly even rerelease games through digital outlets these days. So why in the hell would they buy Capcom, when clearly wouldn't do anything with them, except maybe put all their staff on MGS5 DLC duty?

There's only one reason I want Nintendo to buy Capcom and that's so they can fix the RE series, I mean someone's gotta do it right?

And if they did FIX them, you could count on them being Japanese-exclusive. NoA has only published four (five and I'm missing one?) M-rated games ever (not sure of the EU equivalent)

They're bringing in Bayonetta and Devil's Third so why not R.E. exactly?

Because they still have a presence in the video game market.

I never said they aren't making money from video games anymore, I simply said Konami is involved in more than Video games. They still produce games from other series besides Metal Gear. Why would they give up easy money if they got Capcom?

Monster Hunter alone would increase their presence in the Japanese market, and Street Fighter and Resident Evil would be icing on he cake. I don't like how Hudson soft was treated, but outside of Bomberman what does Hudson Soft really have that would sell?

Capcom is different, and I doubt Konami would screw with them if they owned them. Having Castlevania, Metal Gear Soild, Pro Evolution Soccer, along with Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Resident Evil would give Konami an even stronger presence in the gaming market.

But Konami doesn't want that presence supported by the fact they seem not to give a crap other than Metal Gear PES, and the yugioh tie in.

Konami needs to stay away. After what they did with Hudson, not to mention their own non-Metal Gear properties, they would be the worst possible choice.

Nintendo would be smart to get on this if only for Monster Hunter. Control over that property would do them a lot of good.
