Topic: Your favorite Switch third party publishers?

As a Switch physical collector, I've played several games, provided to us by several different third party publishers. Over the years I've developed expectations when it comes to certain publishers in this hobby of ours. So I thought I'd just...ramble on about some publishers. What their efforts on the Switch have been thus far, and what I hope to see from them over the course of the Switch's life cycle.

1. Bethesda - Personal bias, it's really not fair. Skyrim is a personal top-ten all-time favorite of mine, and Doom is arguably the best first person shooter on the platform. I hope that Bethesda will eventually contract someone to port a mainline Fallout game to the Switch. Not only Fallout, but also Prey, Dishonored, and The Evil Within.

2. NIS America - I'll admit, their catalog is an acquired taste. They offer games across a fairly wide range of genres. But I think their games have a certain kitsche-cool to them. Anywho, they've been slowly bringing their PS4/PS Vita catalog over to the Switch. I'm hoping to see Danganronpa, The Witch and the Hundred Knight, and The Silver Case on the Switch in the near future.

3. Limited Run / Super Rare Games / Play Asia - Basically, all the smallish publishers who have taken the time and effort to provide digital-only games with a physical variant. So that collectors (like me) can have a box and a cartridge on the shelf. They've only recently begun releasing games on the Switch. But there are hundreds of digital-only games that I'd love to have sitting on my shelf some day.

4. Merge Games - From my perspective, their choices of which games to publish over the past year have been great. I feel as though they've been cherry-picking indie games that have an almost double-AA release quality to them. I don't love them as much as Limited Run Games, but their stock is rising.

5. Square-Enix - One of the few "big" third party publishers (Activision, Take Two, EA, etc) to seriously back the Switch as a platform. They've been doing an admirable job of porting their catalog to the Switch. They're delivering Octopath Traveler next month, a platform exclusive. And they've announced plans to expand studios to focus on additional Switch exclusive games.

But enough of my rambling. Who are some of your favorite Switch publishers?

I really like NIS America. I like that they're showing much love and support for Switch with some really interesting and great games.

I appreciate them since Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love (Wii) as it was a very unique and big game, and Ys I & II happened to be one of my favourite retro classics on Wii's VC, but that's all I ever got to play of them in the past.

Well, on Switch things look very different. I bought Disgaea 5 Complete as my second Switch game (after BotW), and I really like it, though I only played to Chapter 6 and then started grinding in the item world. Today I continued with the main story to get it done in time for Disgaea 1 Complete. I'm now in Chapter 7 and unlocked a complex Netherworld Edit Mode! The game never stops to surprise me.

I almost bought The Lost Child (looks very appealing) the other week, but unfortunately I don't have much time at the moment for multiple games and Ys VIII is just around the corner and that's a must-have (and must-play) for me.

I also really want The Longest 5 Minutes and Penny-Punching Princess, but cheap as I am I wait for a sale. I would have snatched them up day 1 if they were 29.99 but 39.99 feels a bit steep for the kind of game they seem to be. On the other hand, handing out 59.99 for Disgaea 5 was no problem since I loved the demo and it has all the DLC (which on it's own is around 40 bucks) and people told me it had hundreds of hours of content.

Bethesda's nice too. I bought Skyrim and DOOM, but I played more Fallout Shelter in the two weeks since its release than both of them combined, which is kinda weird. Or sad. oO
In DOOM I'm stuck unfortunately. It's a difficult stage it seems and I wasn't able to reach the next checkpoint in my last 10 or 20 tries.
And for Skyrim I feel like needing holidays to dive into it. And last holiday Xenoblade 2 took away all the time I reserved for Skyrim. I still clocked in about 30-40 hours when I had a few days off.

I also have respect for THQ Nordic, because Sine Mora EX and This Is The Police are two games I never thought were coming to retail. And they're both great. Though they could have better quality testing as the ports are a bit unpolished.

I don't know how a collector could like Limited Run Games or Super Rare though. Anything that's limited, overpriced, sold out in a few days (or even minutes), and stressful to get is bad in my book. Pretty much very early on I started to not care about them.

Nicalis have done sterling work with their physical games. You can tell they are fans themselves. Probably my favourite andjust waiting for them to release an Ikaruga physical version

Bethesda is getting helf from Nintendo and Panic Button is doing the porting, not sure the praise is that deserved.

I think Bandai and Capcom have supported the most IMO

@GrailUK Nicalis have indeed been stellar. And from day one no less.
No holding off on releasing games till it is safe to do so. Nope, they were fired up from the start and have continued to put all of their support behind the system.

Let's not forget Koei Tecmo either.
While they have whole bunch of games that haven't been released outside Japan yet, they are one of the biggest supporters of the system as well.

Their collector's editions usually sell out quite quickly. But the standard version of the games they publish are open to preorder for a couple weeks. I don't have to worry about eBay prices so long as I keep on top of their release schedule, which is two games a month at the moment. Right now, $70 a month isn't a lot to ask.

But that doesn't include all the other smallish publishers. Super Rare Games, Play-Asia, Strictly Limited Games, Special Reserve, Hard Copy, etc. Considering how well the Switch is selling, I'm afraid that many more smallish publishing companies, printing fewer than 3k copies of games, will begin to appear over the next couple or few years.

My fav 3rd party publishers based off game purchases:
Inti Creates: Azure Striker Gunvolt 1+2, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, and Megaman 9+10 on the Legacy Collection. I love that they understand how to put out classic seeming games that play as well or better than old NES and SNES games.
Capcom: Ultra Street Fighter II, Megaman Collections 1+2. I appreciate playing my favorite oldies from Capcom on Nintendo's newest portable system.
Sega: Puyo Puyo Tetris, Sonic Mania, and Bayonetta 1+2. Portable Tetris, the best Sonic game ever made, and a fun as heck action game series that just makes me laugh while playing them.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Enter the Gungeon, Shovel Knight, and Vostok Inc, but their publishers are less prolific than the three listed above.

@Alikan beat me to it, but I was also going to say Inti Creates. Blaster Master Zero was one of the early highlights when the Switch launched, and it has just kept banging out the retro goodies since.

And Capcom, despite all the flak it (often deservedly) gets, has been a pretty solid supporter of the Switch. Ultra Street Fighter II is a great game, albeit priced too high, but things have really picked up since the slow start. The two Resi Evil Revelations games, Street Fighter Collection, the various Mega Man collections and - soon - Monster Hunter and Okami. It's a fair catalogue.

Bandai Namco has been good too, but none of its titles particularly appeals to me - although that may change when Dragon Ball FighterZ gets here.

@Alikan
Sega has nothing to do with Bayonetta 1+2 on Switch. Both games are developed by Platinum, and published by Nintendo. The first game was published by Sega on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, however, but they deserve no credit for being a publisher of those games on Switch (and Wii U).

Illusion

@JoakimZ ah, I was misled by the title sequences of the games. Thought Platinum was underneath Sega like Camelot is under the Nintendo umbrella. Reeducated myself with wikipedia.

I think Bethesda has shown amazing third party support for Switch so far, with high quality ports of three amazing games. I’m just a bit worried that it stops here, with nothing announced from them at the moment as far as Switch goes.

I really hope that they could port some Fallout games. I would love to see a Switch version of Fallout 4, or maybe a triple pack of Fallout 1+2+Tactics remasters or a double pack of 3+New Vegas remasters.

I also hope that they continue to work with Panic Button to make future ports of Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, or maybe something from their back catalogue, like the Dishonored games.
