The higher ups at NOA and NOE need to get fired. Destroying 3rd parties relationships because of your own personal agenda is childish. You're not the target audience for these games, so why they have to ruin them for others?
Also, I assume that the line in the sand Nintendo is imposing might be related to minors (or characters who look like minors) being shown in provocative circumstances, which is probably why other 18+ games in the system haven't been affected.
Because that was in the past. I seriously doubt games like Omega Labyrinth, Moero Chronicle, Seven Pirates H, would have been fine with "Nintendo's current guidelines." Also, Sony is fine with the swimsuit dlc.
@Arcwave
I imagine there's still loads of games with "hentai" in the title flooding the eshop with at least one seemingly every week though i would be surprised if any of them had any actual H-scenes.
am curious to see if the more restrictive policy results in those games slowing down but even then it feels like a frustrating solution to a problem which is more emblematic of larger issues with the eshop than due to the actual content of said games.
If I had to guess it's probably because the characters in this game look like minors.
Edit: It's the same reason why Xenoblade Chronicles X got rid of the Swimsuit for the 13 year old, and why Fire Emblem Engage's english release didn't have the option to marry literal children when the Japanese release did. They're getting rid of problematic content that doesn't fly outside of Japan.
Sexualising minors is not okay, so I'm glad they're getting rid of it. The Internet is full of that sort of stuff if you really want to watch it, and Nintendo has every right to remove content that they find unethical from their platform.
Yeah, I figured he would bring up those ai hentai games.
Those games do show Nintendo doesn't seem to be preventing 'adult' content if it has the correct ESRB rating and warnings. As others have said, it sounds like they just have some seperate specific rules regarding minors. Although Switch does have the Crunchyroll app which probably has a thousand high school beach episodes on it so one wonders precisely how the rules are formulated.
I'm always in two minds about these kinds of posts. On the one hand I'm all for the ideal of these storefronts being free and open platforms. Not that I subscribe to the "wah, wah, censorship" whine, these are private platforms so their decision to not have content on their stores is in itself a form of speech. But ideally if freedom of expression is a good thing then it's an ideal that private platforms should lean towards
On the other hand...... when people are getting outraged over their inability to buy underage fully modelled anime up skirt and side boob DLC, or whatever the current outrage is, it definitely raises the eyebrows. And I can understand why a huge corporation like Nintendo would want not part of it
You can always buy the games in Japanese. Nintendo will gladly take your money. The games in question didn’t meet NOA guidelines. And since nobody that is talking knows what they are, the storefront has every right to ban a product that doesn’t meet their guidelines or doesn’t make changes to meet them. The devs chose not to meet those guidelines or correct in order to do so. I haven’t heard anyone talking about 3rd party relationships being “ruined”. Not really a big deal.

Agreed. As someone who's staunchly against sexism and objectification of women, I find it kinda sad how in the video game community these loud cries of "censorship" are so often about merely wanting to see more tits & ass. I would hope these same people are equally if not more vocal against actually harmful content removal, such as banning LGBTQ-related books in school libraries. Maybe they are, I dunno?
Other games such as Tokyo Clanpool are having a difficult time passing Nintendo's recently changed game submission guidelines. In the end Nintendo are a global corporation who are protecting their brand in the way they feel is best. Unfortunately, I feel they're taking the wrong avenue. Rather than clamping down on censorship, Nintendo should instead be focusing on curated selection.
How many versions of "Clock" are available on the eShop?
The eShop is congested with asset flips and shovelware.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,381 games (as of January 19th, 2024)

Why people can't understand what fiction is and separate it from the real world? It is entertainment, fantasy, a break from reality. In the game you can be a different person and do things that you may NOT WANT to do in REAL LIFE, are not able to, or do not have the possibility to and make some more or less moral decisions.
If the game allows us to play the role of, let's say, a high school student and romance with classmates of that age, what's wrong with that?
Why is it taboo that teens fall in love and see other people as attractive? All the time it's often about fiction, especially in Japanese games and anime style, characters are depicted in such an unrealistic way that it's hard to mistake them even for reality.
(On the other hand, some new American TV series show high school crazy parties, horny teenagers ekploring their sexuality, etc. And no one has a problem with that. Double standards?)
Why are we able to accept then violent games, killing people for fun in them, illegal racing or other dangerous activities that are also not moral, very bad or even illegal in real life?
The world is going in a really strange direction...I have the impression that nowadays when it comes to these topics the community is very polarized and people counter on the side of degenerate perverts, or people with moral superiority, trying to be moral role models and convincing people of their beliefs by condemning things they consider wrong.
@Bigmanfan I don't understand where the bait? I felt the impulse to comment, so I wrote. I may not have been very active before and wrote, maybe a couple of comments, but what does that have to do with anything?
I'm concerned about the recent news about the supposedly changing politics of NoA (Neptunia Trilogy, Death End) and the further consequences this may bring, and the number of people who somehow applaud and support it. Many of these people, in my opinion, have little idea about the titles they are criticizing, may be driven by incorrect stereotypes, their own prejudices, cultural misunderstanding or simply not the target audience for these types of games.
@Kuroyumu for the same reasons we have restrictions on everything. Because people are not wired the same. And there is no way of knowing who the psycho/pedo/serial killer is. But for a company trying to make money, the best way to keep doing so without legal action, fines and protests (let alone all the death threats supposedly “normal” gamers issue) is to have guidelines. Companies do not have the time or money to be a moral compass (nor is it their place) but the also don’t have time and money to deal with the backlash if their product is an influence or even just happens to be weird overlap. If every human on earth made the correct decision that caused the least amount of harm ever we could live in no law land and no regulation land. Buuuut that might also mean there is less interest in the violence, power and sexual fantasies humans tend to indulge in.
Humans aren’t pure hearted automatons and are poorly educated, illogical and biased as heck. And that’s the normal people. Add people with entirely inverted morals (speaking very generally. A serial killer likely doesn’t think murder is bad or at least thinks bad is pleasurable so they get to the same end result) or just different cultures and it is impossible to have a free for all. And frankly people that argue “it’s just fiction or let everyone express themselves” rarely do so in good faith. It’s simply they are being denied what they want to see but if some else gets what they want but that is in opposition the all of a sudden it’s bad. (Usually the crux of book banning arguments by folks that swear by free speech or if a protagonist isn’t male and white or male and Japanese.). People of all ages are influenced, it’s the perk of our adaptive nature as humans. But that also means that some of us will be influenced by something that inspires us to hurt others. Companies have no way of knowing who is who and don’t want to spend forever fighting off litigation if they get blamed for someone else’s actions that bought their game. Not sure if you are old enough to remember Nintendo having congressional hearings. That was an expense they didn’t want but got dragged into because at some level people are never ever 100% neutral. Nintendo is a global company that has to navigate a myriad of laws, cultures and religions in order to sell their products. Also people aren’t homogeneous. So expecting every culture to be a good business fit just because you want it to be isn’t gonna work. No difference that not having samurai references in games that go to Korea. Nothing exists in a vacuum, including fiction. Arguably religion is man’s greatest fiction and that ends entire lives and has for eons. It’s so odd when people pretend humans are all well adjusted and level headed when we hurt and abuse each other daily (yes even “good” people) especially about a for profit pursuit of pleasure.
A company is there to make the most amount of money the easiest way possible. Consumers pay companies for the convenience of not having to either make or fully fund a product themselves. So trade off on both sides. As I said, the games are available in the country they originate from. Nintendo will be happy to take your yen.
To use a non creepo example, up until the Switch I bought bought JPN and NA game systems. (I blame dragon quest and taiko no tatsujin). Nothing I wanted to play was taboo or morally objectionable but just simply not a good fit for an English speaking country. So I took on the added expense of learning a new language (although I am horribly rusty now) and paying more money for games. Shipping is global. If you want it bad enough, you will buy it.

It's a question of the nature of consent, how these kinds of media interact with it and how attitudes have changed over time. I think a lot of the scenes in a movie like American Pie for example would be a bit harder to get away with today. But, if you look in fairly broad strokes, there's a thread of consent there and broadly it's late-teen/early-20s voyeurism. Even more so, the entire point of movies like that is to have you as the viewer essentially sitting on a roller-coaster the whole time just saying "oh god no, no, don't, stop" and feeling second-hand embarrassment over it
The games you're describing don't do that. They go out of their way to make it clear that these are school children and you're not just observing their interactions between each other, you are role-playing as a character who pushes them into a fantasy. You're not an observer, you're the instigator. If you can't see how that's flying a bit too close to the sun, especially for a fairly cautious and generally conservative large corporation, I don't know what else to say
In terms of the different attitudes towards violence vs sex and nudity in western media? I definitely agree with you there. There's definitely something a bit off with the idea that something like Mortal Kombat is ok to some of the same people who freak out over games like Mass Effect and Bayonetta. But I would argue there's a huge gulf between that kind of sexuality in games and the hill you're wanting to die on here......
