Topic: What games are you planning to use your Switch Online vouchers for?

Hi everyone, I’m surprised we didn’t previously have a thread about the NSO vouchers and what games we’re planning to use them on. I figured it would be interesting to hear how each person decides what game they should use a voucher for, so that their reasoning could help those who are currently unsure.

What games are you planning to use your Switch Online vouchers for? Why did you decide on those games and not other ones that you may also be interested in?

I'm not as my local Walmart sells all Physical Nintendo Switch games for $49.94 or less all day everyday. Just Bought Dragon Quest Builders 2 for $49.94 yesterday. And if your interested Walmart online (U.S) has Dragon Quest Builders 2 for just $50.99 with free 2 day shipping.

None, as I purchase Switch games mostly physically. The only exceptions are the Sega Ages and Arcade Archive games. I've made a habit of not purchasing indie games from the eShop because eventually one of the dozen or so boutique publishers release them physically. However, if I had online vouchers, Animal Crossing and Daemon X Machina would top my list.

I have over 3,000 hours played across the Animal Crossing games, I love the series dearly.

And the number of mech-games released these days are few and far between, so I want to fully support Daemon X Machina. It reminds me of Armored Core. The series that From Software left behind after the success of their Souls-like games.

Since I've decided to go full digital, I got around 2 pairs of vouchers.

Astral Chain, Dragon Quest XI, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Shield

These 4 are because they have hyped me up massively o/ I can't wait for their releases soooo bad :')

I just got 1 set and I'm actually trying to decide what's best to use my 2nd voucher on. The first was perfect for Mario maker as i always want it available on my system. The second will be....not sure? Maybe LM3 or if I hit a rough patch financially and can't buy the physical version day 1. I prefer physical but mm2 is a perfect digital game, and I'm looking for that 2nd game

@NintendoByNature If you like the series, I'm saving my 2nd for Animal Crossing. That is the perfect game to want on the system and play for years, even more than Mario Maker (which is what I also used my 1st voucher on).

@Xyphon22 oddly enough, I've never played an A.C. game as it never sounded like my cup of tea. Surely, it has to be great considering the following it has. Either that or Pokemon are candidates. Both are games I never played before but they seem like great on the go, quick shots kind of games. Only thing that worries me is that if i don't like them, I can't trade them in

@NintendoByNature Yeah, if you've never played it and think it's not for you, I probably wouldn't waste a voucher on it. I said in another forum I think the vouchers were only a good deal in a very specific context: if there are 2 games that you simply cannot wait for and know you will want to keep for years if not forever. Animal Crossing is that for me because it uses real world time and so if you wait to get it you can miss things. Mario Maker wasn't, but it was for my son, so that made 2 games so I popped for a set of vouchers. I also usually stick to physical so I can trade them in when I'm done to afford more games, but these are not getting traded so it was worth it.

I bought a bunch and already used them for Super Mario Maker 2 and Fire Emblem. I just used another for Astral Chain. I have 4 more. I'm using it for Link's Awakening, Luigi's Mansion 3, and Pokemon. The last one I'm not sure yet.

Nice to hear everyone's responses!

With the one set I got, I'm definitely going to use one for Pokemon. The other one is a toss-up between Astral Chain and Link's Awakening. I think I'm going to wait for reviews for each of them before committing to one of them. Astral Chain looks awesome but is a new IP so no guarantees on if I'd love it or not, while Link's Awakening is adorable and guaranteed fun but also too short to comfortably pay full price for digitally. Reviews will probably help me decide which to choose for my second voucher — the other one will probably be gotten physically (and sold once I beat it).

For the physical buyers out there, that makes sense based on preference. I didn't realize that Walmart was selling ALL Switch games at $50 @BacklogBlues . Is this a per-store basis or is this all stores? And does this apply to new games (for example, is Fire Emblem: Three Houses $50 at your Walmart)? I checked walmart.com and it indeed seems a lot of Switch games are $50, but not all are.

Already used a pair for Mario Maker 2 and Fire Emblem.

For my other pair, I'm absolutely picking up Dragon Quest XI S. I'm not sure if I'll use the other one for Astral Chain or Pokemon Shield, though.

These vouchers cost more than physical versions of games in Canada (since there are sales on physicals). Plus I would rather physical than digital. I only go digital if it is cheaper or if I want a game that doesn't have a physical release. Digital costing more than physical makes no sense to me.

Yes it's every Switch game and yes It's a per store thing @shadow-wolf. I live in Kentucky a state that is considered to be one of the poorer states which is probably why every Switch game is $49.94 or cheaper. But you can also find great deals on new games on Walmart.com too.

The voucher system was amazing for me. I'm sad to see it go.

Hope there's no issue in reviving an old topic ...

I may save my voucher for Animal Crossing, but would anyone otherwise have recommendations between Luigi's Mansion 3, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or Pokemon Sword/Shield for a next digital title? I buy a lot of my games physically, but I like having some digital titles (including lots of indies/pick-up-and-play games) on the system. My main criterion for wanting it on the system digitally would be as a relatively replayable game. Animal Crossing is obviously perfect, but I would buy that digitally at full price anyway. Any suggestions? Thanks!

[Know that I am not someone who will be picky about Pokemon and am likely to love the game ... I'm definitely a casual fan of the series who plays every other or third generation.]

@megasean I think Animal Crossing is the perfect choice, especially if your NSO subscription is good throughout March. If not, and if you plan on playing any of the other three games for a while, then yeah get that one. Out of the other three, what game is more up your alley?

@MarioLover92 Animal Crossing is definitely the perfect choice ... and the voucher does last. I'm thinking Fire Emblem and Pokemon give the most replayability. Pokemon seems the most natural choice to me, as it can be a good one to dip into for a bit, battle with a friend, etc. But Fire Emblem feels really enticing right now, and I know that can be a massive adventure. Are you aware if there's any extended replayability with that one?

@megasean Oh that's awesome. I haven't played Three Houses (the only Fire Emblem games I've played so far are Awakening and Echoes) so I did a bit of research on that. I did see that there are multiple story paths in that game, so there is quite a bit of replayability there. You could pick a house, finish its story, start a new file, then pick a different house if you wanted to. There's an expansion pass for Three Houses that contains new costumes and missions, too. From the looks of it, I'd say get either Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing.
