Gamefreak just can't put out quality. It's always been like that.

And I'm just over 30 fps games that consistently dip to 20. I don't mind imperfections. Plenty of imperfect Switch games I enjoy. But my line in the sand is, if it's 30fps that's totally fine. Most games I play are at 30. But you can't be dropping 10+ frames consistently if you're running at 30. You can drop 10+ if you're running 60, all day. But when you get down to 20, and it happens often, it's enough to damage my experience. Might be others out there where it isn't detrimental to them. Everyone has different tolerance for these things. But for me personally, I just can't do it.

It's why I dropped Ys IX. It's why I dropped Ni No Kuni 2. And it's why I won't play this new Pokemon. There's too many great games with satisfactory performance on Switch to waste time playing games that are just going to aggravate you.

Pokemon Legends Arceus runs fine. May not be a stunning game graphically, but it works for me, and I don't have to deal with constant stutters. So ya. Until Gamefreak gets it together, I'll be MIA on the Pokemon train. Idk if they just need to double development time or what, but something needs to be done. You're one of the biggest franchises in the world and the games are built ground up for Switch. There's simply no excuse for a stuttery game. If you don't have the skill to fix it, then you better start hiring ppl who do. Don't care how it gets addressed. But if they want me to buy another Pokemon, it will need to be addressed.

edit
If you're also put off by Pokemon, do yourself a favor and grab the superior alternative, a game twice as good for less than half the price with better performance:

I love how the immediate solution is new hardware. Guarantee you the same people are going to make videos, tweets and such when Switch 2 comes out and the new 3D Mario doesn't look as good as God of War Ragnarok. Or when 3rd party titles on Switch 2 don't look as good as their 3rd party counterparts.

I'm still interested in getting Scarlet, but yeah, I think they need to slow down with the releases and give more time to each game or set of games.

Performance issues are nothing unusual for Pokemon games. D/P had some major slowdown issues. SuMo ran rather terribly on the base 3DS. SwSh had some major slowdown in the wild areas. PLA running as well as it did was a fluke.

It is what it is. Most people will tolerate it and enjoy the games regardless.

FWIW multiple previews have said a lot of the slowdown is less of a problem in handheld mode. Now that I have a SWOLED I play very little on my TV anymore (recently completed the entirety of Dark Souls Remastered in handheld mode), so that works out fine for me.

@JaxonH The performance in MH Stories 2 is pretty spotty, though. Some areas chugged noticeably. I even remember you raging about it at one point.

@Ralizah
The unlocked framerate does cause some stutters at times. And I did rage about it initially until I learned it was only localized to 1 or 2 specific areas, which if you recall I even took video afterward saying ok, it's not nearly as bad as I feared.

It may not be perfect, but it's night and day from Pokemon, largely because it's pushing as close to 60 frames as it can instead of 30.

@JaxonH Honestly, reducing the framerate to a locked 30 and slightly dropping the resolution across both modes would probably have allowed it to run perfectly. It's annoying how easily that game's performance woes likely could have been addressed.

But yes, SMT V and MH Stories 2, as technically imperfect as they are, are still miles better than any Pokemon game on the console, and the lifetime sales of both probably won't manage to match even the pre-order numbers of an average Pokemon game.

I can't understand the gaming comunity. If a full priced exclusive software made by a big dev can't run on the only hardware configuration it needs to, it is clearly a optimization issue and we shoud be more vocal about it, not beg to waste more money on expensive hardware so it can work prorpelly. This dev philosophy is just destroying hardware longevity.

There is a space between these two positions I think you skipped over. Actually I think the two positions are if anything both of these stances.or neither of them

My take is that games poorly optimised to this degree shouldn't be brought. We should vote with our wallets and demand better. Especially from large studios who only have one platform to target. These Pokemon games? They shouldn't have been released in this state

However, new hardware is both inevitable and desperately needed. Poorly optimised games are in part a symptom of that fact. So we should also be asking where the new hardware is and, potentially, when it does inevitably come possibly re-evaluate our stance on these poorly optimised titles

So both, I'll do both thanks

I know Pokemon prints money but GF has supposedly been having issues with technical performance for a while. I don’t know enough about the engine under the hood but I wish Nintendo could help them out. I doubt it based on the ownership agreement they seem to have set up but I feel bad for them(as in most folks don’t want to make a bad product intentionally). Perhaps if Pokemon wasn’t annual? The mobile games earn enough that they can take an extra year right?

@JaxonH I am still trying to figure out how so much can go so wrong so quickly for one person (not absolving him of any guilt) but seriously I would be ready to change my name.

@JaxonH is this Monster Hunter game this leak refer the other Monster Hunter game we found in the leaked Capcom documents? eww microtransaction. @Kaisu Game Freak is incompent with Nintendo hardware since the begining of the franchise, the late president of Nintendo Satoru Iwata have to help them during the end of the development of Pokémon Gold e Silver, because they are unable to include Kanto in the game, due to they incompetence in programing the game, the situation got worse during the 3DS era, i recall playing Pokémon Y in my 3DS and when i used the 3D the framerate droped dratically.

Yes.

Monster Hunter Paradise. I imagine the "MTX" won't be what you're thinking of though, with virtual currency and unlimited transactions, but rather finite cosmetics sold piece meal similar to Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise. They're "technically" micro transactions as they are small (micro) DLC purchases for cosmetics.

@JaxonH If they're throwing battle passes into the mix, purchasable virtual currency with real money and an ingame store seems very likely.

@Grumblevolcano
Not necessarily

Just means new content and event quests accessible for the pass. Nothing about a battle pass is inextricably linked to "virtual currency". That wouldn't even work in MH because there's nothing to infinitely buy. They specified it would have various cosmetics and event quests for the pass.

@JaxonH i see and how about this battle pass, will it work similar to past Monster Hunter expansions? i not obliged to pay it to enjoy the game? can i play the game without buying this battle pass or is essencial for the game?

@JaxonH The premium currency would be the way you'd buy the battle pass and the ingame shop items where the ingame shop contains the kind of stuff MH Rise has as DLC and rotates every so often. The battle pass at certain stages of progression would reward you with exclusive cosmetics and in others would reward you with premium currency.
