Source is YouTube videos showing live battery tests side by side with a stopwatch timer.

The reason OLED gets so much better battery life is due to how OLED technology works. With LCD, the screen has lights behind colored pixels which illuminate the pixels as red, green and blue. There's a shutter that closes off the pixels as needed to create different images and lighting. But the backlight is constantly on.

With OLED, there is no need for a backlight because the individual pixels self-illuminate. Which means, when pixels aren't needed they can simply turn off, conserving energy. This is why OLED blacks are pure black and not washed out grey like LCD. Because with LCD, the backlight is still on and light bleed makes the shuttered pixels not look pure black. But with OLED, they're pure black. There is no backlight, which means no light bleed. This also means energy conservation as the black areas of the screen aren't illuminated.

So games that have a lot of dark areas which use less illumination, and lots of black areas which require no illumination, those games will see less energy used vs LCD, and thus the battery will last longer.

For games that are super colorful and have little to no dark or black areas, the battery life will be essentially the same, maybe even a bit worse in some cases. But those instances are relatively rare. Most games get longer battery life on the OLED, anywhere from 10-15 minutes extra to 2 hrs extra, depending.

I thought this day would never come. It got a physical release on Wii U but, being PAL and Wii U being region locked, it was a no-go.

Thankfully, nearly 6 years after the Switch release, it finally got a physical release... and a steelbook case! And this time, Switch is region free.

What style is this game going for? It's like part HD 2D, part 3D, WHAT IS IT JUST PICK ONE!

@Eagly It's Gameloft we'll probably need to pay for the ending.

Q: Please tell us how you evaluate the situation of new titles released in Q2.

A: Although “Soul Hackers 2” is currently struggling to reach the expected sales level, we believe that it is a title that can be sold over the long term, so we will continue to update the game in the future with the aim to expand sales.

As we all likely suspected, Soul Hackers 2 appears to be a flop, despite releasing on everything but the Switch.

Who could have imagined that snubbing your primary console demographic would end poorly?

They literally tried selling the game to every platform except the one where the SMT community is.

Sega, along with many other big publishers nowadays, thinks PS/Xbox/PC is indescriminantly the ultimate answer to everything. They're finding out how wrong that is.

The landscape has evolved. This isn't the Wii U era anymore.

I looked at a copy of soul hackers 2 yesterday and I felt so disappointed. All I could think was, if this was on switch I would buy it. I still haven't gotten my TV out of storage so what very little gaming I can do is switch only. Even if they had done a digital only option...options are great.

@JaxonH @Ralizah Yeah, that's a bummer.

But I wouldn't say Sega are particularly biased towards PC/Xbox/PS these days. If anything, they're just annoyingly inconsistent. Like...they make the effort to put the new, ambitious, open-world Sonic game on the weaker Switch (something that they wouldn't have done in the 360/PS3/Wii generation), which I really appreciate. But Atlus releases in particular have been all over the place (some skipping Switch, some skipping Xbox, some PC...).

And then you have the Yakuza director outright denying the series' place on the Switch on multiple occasions.

At least the multiplatform releases of Persona 5, 4 and 3 are a step in the right direction. Let's hope Sega learn from this.

The sad thing is that Soul Hackers 2 has probably missed its chance to do well on the Switch. If it ever comes, it will have to compete with its more well-received brethren in SMT V, Persona 5, Persona 4, Persona 3, TMS #FE...

Isn't the PS4/XBone port of SH2 kind of rough?

Might be one of the few Atlus games where I don't mind it skipping the Switch.

Atuls should just swallow their pride and do something like Persona Presents; SMT5.

No.

SMT is fine. V sold the best of any of the mainline games to date in a much shorter period of time. Not amazingly well, but for a hardcore, combat-focused JRPG with an intimidatingly Japanese title, it gained a lot of visibility thanks to Nintendo.

Sega seemed reasonably satisfied with SMT V's performance, which is all that really matters in the end. It's a passion project sorta series for Atlus. Not one that anybody expects to sell millions of copies.

So I just transfered all my data from my newer Switch to my old Switch in prep for sending the newer one away for repairs in order to fix Error 2168-0002 and everything's fine and dandy: all my games are playing grand, my save data's intact and I even fully beat Mario Bros 3 for the very first time. I decide to go and send some screenshots/videos to my phone now that I'm on a different Switch aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand the exact same error came up again. But this time on a different Switch. That just went through a factory reset. That's also completely out of warranty. Life is pain.

I'm not nearly as worried about it as I was for my other Switch (since I'm only going to be using this one for 3 weeks max), I'm just more frustrated than anything that I can't use this opportunity to actually send my screenshots/videos on from my Switch while the faulty one is away. Anyone have any tips for other ways to move them off? Because man would it be helpful right now.

@Fizza If you have a PC and an SD card reader you can put them on your PC, it might take bit though.

@Kermit1 I've tried doing that in the past with a Chromebook and it never seemed to work for me. I'll see what I can find though (maybe use a school computer if they'll allow me?).

@Fizza I wouldn't use a School computer (you never know what might happen to them, even if they're just copies).

idk normally I'd be able to give some advice but this is more limiting.

@Eagly ...it's not, though. Persona isn't just popular because it's called Persona. If people pick up a game with "Persona" in the title and it's a grimdark monster-collector that plays almost nothing like actual Persona games, it'd just erode faith in the brand.

Not nearly as much as in the past, that's for sure, but it's still their default. Granted, I don't blame companies for having that default because Nintendo failed to provide a viable platform for 3rd parties for a very long time. Fixing that isn't going to happen overnight. That said, it has been 6 yrs. Still hearing, "Nintendo for kids, might hurt my game's big boy image" is incredibly embarrassing. Idk if it's Sony loyalism from that guy or holdover resentment toward Nintendo from the 90's , but if Sega had any sense they'd put their man in check, and port those games over whether he likes it or not, and tell him to shut his mouth moving forward.

Right now, Switch's capabilities are a genuine hindrance, so I let a lot of it slide. But once Switch 2 drops, with approximate capability of a SteamDeck, I better not see nearly as many games skipping the system, or I'll start boycotting those publishers across all other platforms. I may not buy much on Steam compared to Switch, but I do still buy.

@Eagly Casuals don't care about that connection, though. Very few of them are going to want to play a game like SMT V.

There's room in the market for hardcore RPGs. SMT has carved a niche for itself. Atlus just needs to keep refining their formula.
