From neogaf- somebody suggested the sensor bar could be in the top part of the switch that pertrudes out of the dock. Would make tons of sense given that the need for an actual sensor bar is pretty stupid given you'd need to take it with you on the go too...

It would be coherent with the GamePad's built-in sensor bar placement above the screen and next to the camera.

@Laice The screens are fake though. They were edited in after filming. Nobody was actually playing a game, or even looking at a game for that matter.

So no one in my house of 5 cares about the Switch. Won't be powerful, won't play games they want. The latter is fair, the former isn't a really good form of dismissal.

Why do people keep saying it won't be powerful when there is MORE evidence out there saying it WILL?

I'd be very surprised if there's no amiibo compatibility.

Perhaps that joy-con grip includes an amiibo sensor. That would make it make sense opposed to the pro controller.

@rallydefault @Laice I'm staying out of it. Not letting anyone around me know stuff that I know, or my opinion for business reasons.

As for them? They are part of the many that make up the UK, and we know how that goes.

Expecting 512GB or 1TB of flash storage is just wishful thinking. It will not happen. The price of the unit would be too much for most people. Didn't you see the thread about price we had here? People didn't want to pay more than 199 for the console, and now we are talking about 399 or 499 price tag at minimum...

Keep your expectations in check and you won't be disappointed.

I agree, but I do think (assuming they go this route) that we'll see one of the SKUs with 250GB cards. Whether that's the "premium" or "standard," we'll just have to see. Because as unreasonable as the prices are, it's equally unreasonable to expect someone to buy a game system in the year 2017 that only has 32GB memory. Even four-five years ago it raised eyebrows with the Wii U. And for a portable system that you can't/don't want to lug around an external HDD? Even moreso.

This thing seems to be my fear, based on the limited info we have so far: Powerful for a handheld, pretty lame for a home console. And since this is the HOME console, it'll be interesting to see how long developers stick around before jumping ship again. When you make a hybrid like this, there -has- to be drawbacks somewhere. Power, battery life, resolution, screen size, storage, media. Since it's Nintendo, they most definitely sacrificed power and storage.

But I admit, an HD handheld is pretty awesome. If the framerate isn't utter garbage I may use it as a handheld a few times, just for the novelty of it.

@Operative

I was very firmly anti-hybrid pre reveal, but honestly things are looking like they actually pulled it off. We already know Switch runs Unreal Engine 4, indicating that it's at least significantly more powerful than the Wii U.

The fact that Bethesda is even thinking of putting remastered Skyrim on the platform suggests that it is in the ballpark of the XB1 at least.

@BiasedSonyFan hardware is one of the biggest reasons not to support a system in the current market. The PS4, XB1, and PC are near identical to develop for and if Nintendo makes a difficult system to develop for again, we won't see much in support.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

TuVictus

@BiasedSonyFan I would certainly think it'd be better than it probably will be. If it cost next to nothing to port over the game, I imagine more publishers would take advantage of it. I agree though, that it's not the sole reason for Nintendo's troubles. It'd help, though.

Also, that article has a lot of repeats.

What are we all expecting the switch to have in the way of built in storage? And if we can upgrade storage via SD cards, will we truly be going back to the days of GameCube and PS2 9of labelling all our memory cards (SD)?
And if storage is an issue, won't this just promote physical purchases, which is obviously not something Nintendo would want?!?
So many questions.

I don't think Nintendo minds too much that we buy physical as long as we do buy their games. Yes, they get more profit on digital, but they know that their consumers are creatures of habits and nostalgic ones for that matter.
We wouldn't get Wii U eShop Selects and other releases if Nintendo didn't value the physical sales.

@BiasedSonyFan My bad, that last part of my post was just my general thoughts on the article, I wasn't using it for any points in our conversation.

@skywake
Sorry, just saw your post. My email is weird.

In regards to online service fees:
I won't defend Sony and PSPlus. I'm done with Sony after the PS4: thing is just a third-party box with absolutely nothing exciting or different about it. PS Network feels like it's down a few times a month (I know that's not technically true, but gosh if it doesn't seem like it). And I hate the controller. Biggest waste of my money ever.

But Xbox Live is remarkably stable and fast for an online service. And take a look at something like Blizzard's Battle.net on PC. I would bet you anything that Battle.net is down way more often than Xbox Live, and I use both very frequently. Steam, though, is incredibly stable, and you can play most games offline. But you do "pay" for it in ways that most people don't realize (DRM and all its implications), which is really an entirely separate discussion.

But bottom line: premium online services are worth it, I think. It all depends on the company, the price, and what you are going to get out of it. I don't care how much of a cut Microsoft gets from the games or blah blah blah: if I get two free games a month that I will use and get roughly $5 of entertainment out of, the service is worth it to me. If not, then obviously not.
