It seems to be an argument about the Neo and Scorpio and what they mean for the future of consoles and the future of PS4 and XB1... Not sure why this argument is in the NX thread since the NX isn't really being talk about lol
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
Just like if people want better graphics then they should just skip consoles altogether and buy a PC, right? You know this is bogus. Stop making excuses.
Until the day that every game can be played on every system, that's a terrible argument. I'm not making excuses, you're making an issue of something that maybe should've happened a long time ago. Nobody is forced to buy anything. Multiplat games were always inferior on consoles anyway, so I don't see your point. It's not that everyone is suddenly power-hungry for more graphics; there's just another option. If you come in three years after the PS4 has been released, you now have the option to buy relatively new hardware instead of 3-year old hardware. People that already own a PS4 can upgrade if they wish and people that don't want to spend another $400 can just use their regular old PS4. It's not as if that would be any different without the NEO. There's just an extra option. Explain to me why that is such a terrible thing?
@DefHalan At least we're not talking about grass and ''fan service''

Zelda games. The Legend of Zelda: Fairy Castles
Sensations Nintendo (wired and wireless)
Smell box sprays scent with condensation

a couple things. Age of Empires is a Microsoft IP, so it won't be on a Nintendo game console (in the past, they've released some things on Nintendo's portables since they didn't have anything they considered a competing device, but with Windows Phone out, those days are likely over).
As for the Smash characters, Goku (or any other DBZ character) will never make it, as they did not originate in video games (which is a requirement for consideration). Banjo & the Killer Instinct characters may have a small chance, but even that is unlikely as they are now owned by Microsoft.
I'm not even going to begin discussing that mishmash of hardware...
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Some people seem to think having new hardware on the shelf ruins console gaming. Because somehow it shortens the life of the hardware by having something better on the shelf. Probably going to eventually be relevant to the NX given that I'm pretty sure Nintendo will go down the same route. Because console generations are a PITA for everyone involved.
No you didn't; if you bought old PC hardware then you played video games on old PC hardware, and the old technology showed on your PC monitor. Being able to play the same video games as a gamer with a high-end gaming PC does not change that fact.
Except that you can't go into the shops and buy old PC hardware. Walk into the shops and ask for the best GPU you can get for ~$100US and unless they're ripping you off you'll get something about as powerful as the PS4's GPU. If you had done that four years ago you would have got something somewhere between the Wii U and XBOne. This happens year-by-year. Hardware keeps improving at a gradual pace. Why shouldn't the hardware in consoles reflect this?
Besides, even if you bought a console late in a video game generation, you could still enjoy all of the unique video games that were released for that console. Those video games would still be new to you even if they were released at a much earlier date.
And this is going to change if you have better hardware on the shelf? Under the traditional console model early adopters get a full cycle of releases but they start with zero content. Late adopters get a whole bunch of content but don't get any new games. If they had a more PC-like model? Well PC gamers buy a piece of hardware and get a whole bunch of content AND they get new games they can run for a full cycle. Why shouldn't console gamers get the same?
@BiasedSonyFan as pointed out, Nintendo already does sell a cobsole upgrade for their 3DS line. They also had a console upgrade (in certain ways) with the Game Boy Adance to SP, and some even count the Game Boy Color as an upgrade option instead of its own portable console generation. But what is so bad about these optional console "upgrades?"

The whole point is that the PS4's GPU is underpowered in the first place, and you're acting like I'm supposed to be impressed by this?
"If you had done that four years ago you would have got something somewhere between the Wii U and XBOne."
A GPU between a console that already had last-gen tech when it was released and another underpowered console? Yikes.
I'm just going to highlight the disconnect between these two responses and leave it at that

@RR529 This is Christo's buddy. Im new to this website. Does Nintendo admins look through these forums? Does anyone know and approve of the ideas that Christo posted? (This account) Would a good idea to be to draw the ideas that were recent so people can see what I was typing about besides the 3rd party videogames. Thank you for the info you provided though about the games.
@christo71186 Hiya. It's probably not the right thread for this so I will try to relate it to the NX . I really like the light board idea (if it is what I think it is). If Nintendo can have a device that can detect where objects are then I think it would be a good way of moving toys to life forward. For me personally, it should be called bits of plastic to unlock content. There is not much 'toy' to them. However, if they had some physical playability to them (y'know, like a toy) then I would think more of this concept. Your light board idea could enable table top wargaming whilst having a command screen or something on the TV. Table top Advance Wars where the screen can help you with dice modifiers, AR battlefield conditions and tactics or objectives. Toys to life could be utterly awesome and maybe Nintendo are going to progress it's concept with the NX (there told ya). Collect figures and build your army. The screen could enable online multiplayer keeping track of players figures and toys. It could be genius!
@BiasedSonyFan Nintendo can do whatever they want. Sony can do whatever they want. Microsoft can do whatever they want. Sony and Microsoft generally follow the same paths with a lot of things, giving players an optional upgrade is one of those paths. I don't see what is wrong with what Sony and Microsoft are doing, I actually like that they are heading away from the type of console generations we generally have and are putting such an emphasis into backwards compatibility (in a way it is backwards compatibility)

@DefHalan They all can do whatever they want, but unlike Sony and Microsoft whom know that their legions of followers will more likely than not, upgrade pretty quickly, Nintendo doesn't have the luxury of knowing it has a fan base from one console to the next - partly their own fault.
The problem Nintendo faces will be that as the competition moves forward with ever more powerful hardware, Nintendo seems to be sticking with similar specs. And that's going to be I think the hardest part of selling it in today's world. And price will only go so far especially as Xbox One (in the UK at least) is just above £200.
So whatever Nintendo does do, it better be instantly understandable to the anyone and everyone with little explanation.

@FragRed I don't think Sony and Microsoft fans are any more or less "sheep" than Nintendo fans. Each company has their fans that will jump at any and all of their products, I think Sony and Microsoft do a good job at keeping each other in check. Xbox lost a lot of people with the Xbox One announcements. Sony played it much safer than they did the previous generation. This gave us a flipped scenario than last gen.
Nintendo has a lot to prove since they haven't had much hype in the home console market since 2010 kinda. In my opinion, Nintendo needs to stop acting like Sony and Microsoft don't affect it and that Nintendo can't affect them right back. They need to start competing, even if they don't play by the same rules. That is what made the Wii such a great system at first, but the later years destroyed all of that momentum... I wonder how different things would be if the Wii U was released in 2010???

@DefHalan Nintendo has a lot to think about going forward for sure. And yes, they do need to realise that they are competing against Sony and Microsoft.
If the Wii U launched 2010 it would have been much better received I'm sure but seeing that it was late in the generation I'm not sure how many millions more it would have sold. Still would have been a failure but more in line with Gamecube sales.

What disconnect? You wanted to talk about how you can get five years out of a midrange PC GPU, but this is only with regards to PC's video game library. I'm talking about the graphics. Graphics tech is considered old after a New York minute.
Everyone knew the PS4's graphics hardware was old when it was released. This is 2016. Yes, the hardware is old.
The only reason I mentioned PC graphics cards at all was because they get new ones every year. Consoles haven't, at least not traditionally. And they certainly didn't move from last gen to this gen gracefully. So how am I supposed to make the point any other way?
I'll spell it out again for you. I said that in 2012, the year before these consoles launched, you could have walked into a PC shop with $100US. Why $100US? Well because that's about the smallest amount you can spent on a new GPU without the thing being a paperweight. This is very much the entry level "gaming" GPU. Back in 2012 you would have got something between the Wii U and XBOne. Do the same thing today and you'd get something that lands about where the PS4 is.
And your response? Was to ask why I was telling you the PS4 was a fairly entry level spec in 2016. Then act surprised that the entry level spec in 2012 was between the Wii U and XBOne. Thus missing the point entirely. That PC gamers buying new gear can't go into the shops and buy out of date hardware. Console gamers can. This isn't a good thing.
I'll put it another way. Console gaming has always been a fight between two forces. On the one hand they want to make it easy for developers by having the same hardware for every end user. Same everything. On the other hand there's the continual march of technology. Which is why we get console generations, the generation ends when they hit that tipping point.
This made sense when consoles were islands where all the first party exclusives lived. But these days? Most things are multi-platform. Developers are building for different specs anyways. So why not throw out the idea of console generations entirely? Have a spec upgrade every year or so. That way they're not selling consumers old tech anymore and there are no more of those drastic transition periods.

@christo71186 NintendoLife isn't affiliated with Nintendo in any way. If you're posting ideas here in the hope of Nintendo reading them, then you're out of luck unfortunately. Everything you post on these forums is just for speculation and fun.
