Topic: Broken Switch SD Card

Posts 1 to 9 of 9

I just found out that Genshin is apparently being worked on for the Nintendo Switch-
Also my SD just broke. What should I do since that had most of my game data. Not BOTW, Hyrule Warriors and Kirby though but like Mario Odyssey and the original games though. How do I retrieve lost data from a memory/SD card for my Switch? Asking for a friend lol.

Also I don't remember where I got my SD card. So that's bad.

Get one from Amazon with 10,000+ reviews.

Save data is on the Switch and not the card, so it's just a case of redownloading the software.

@LonkTheLonk Genshin Impact was slated to release around 2020?, then the release window passed and the developers have been silent on whether the game will ever come to the switch. I think speculation/consensus is, they couldn't get it to run good enough on the Switch hardware, not enough power. So, unless there's a new announcement update from the developer, I don't think it's ever coming to the Switch.

You say you lost your "game data". Game save data is stored separately on Switch internal memory. So, you haven't lost that. Your card has games, dlc, and perhaps your screenshots and video clips. So, you can always redownload your games & dlc. If you have a ton of games, you go to the Redownload page on eshop, and check mark all the games you want to download over night.

The best prices for cards are on amazon. But there are a few rules you must follow to make sure you get legitimate cards, and not counterfeit.
1) Only buy from amazon pages that have tons of positive reviews, like thousands, or ten thousand+ positive reviews.
2) Only buy "sold and shipped by Amazon". If the seller on a page is unfamiliar, check the other sellers, and you can likely find "sold and shipped by Amazon".
3) Only buy name brand card you recognize. Stay away from unfamiliar brands and too-good-to-be-true prices.

This page looks ok. (pasting a link below) It has a full range of capacity options. The default sellers for a few cards on this page were not Amazon, but when clicked to view the other sellers of this page, I found "sold and shipped by Amazon", and sometimes it was better than the page's default price.

Just came by to reiterate that.

Save data is stored in the console's memory, not the microSD card, so you haven't lost anything of value (except perhaps your photos/videos).

Any corrupted data can be redownloaded via the eShop.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

People above mostly covered everything pretty well but I just wanted to add that buying the specifically Nintendo Branded ones are a ripoff. They basically etched a little mushroom on it just to charge you a bit more for the same SD card.

Sandisk are always a very safe option for SD cards and I've never had a single issue with any of their products. They go on sale quite a lot, especially around things like Black Friday. I currently have a 400GB one but I'm gonna grab either a 512GB or 1TB next time they go on a deep sale

The Nintendo branded microSD are around only 256gb that I've have seen only. I haven't seen branded larger capacity microSD aka 1tb Zelda or Splatoon 3 versions which would be sold out by scalpers.

@LonkTheLonk Game Save data and Screenshots are kept on Internal Memory and DLC and Game updates are on the microSD. Until they change that feature which they should it would help with Switch Migrations.
