Topic: Upgrading Micro SD card

Hello,

I have just bought a 1TB micro SD card and am seeing a lot of info online about transferring data from the old card. I am hoping I don't have to do this.

Can I just pop in the new card and redownload all my games since the game save files are all stored on the switch anyway?

I do not have any pictures or videos that I am interested in keeping.

Any help is appreciated

Yeah, you can redownload, @ElijahJoenz .... Some people find it easier transferring other ways but if you go to your account, it'll show you all the games you own to download there

Lucky you owning a 1Tb card! I've got a 512Gb at the moment and have run out of space so that would be my next upgrade if they weren't so expensive. Yeah, easy enough to redownload if your broadband is up to it

Thanks. When I say I have one, I actually ordered it from Amazon this morning. It’s part of their prime day offers today and tomorrow so is cheaper than it will be for a long time I think. @Magonigal

Dude! I was actually going to make a thread about this because I needed a 128GB SD card. Thanks for answering my question

Yeah I saw that deal and was very tempted but unfortunately still too much for me so I can wait a couple of years
One issue with having a large card is that if you're using anything above 400Gb and you're using most of it then you're likely to have a lot of games - i just wish there were folders as it usually takes me a while to find something

I caved in and got it. Just too much of a reduction from it's normal price to resist

I didn't owned Micro SD for my Nintendo Switch for around 2 years. I had Micro SD that I used at that time, but it was 128 MB one, it was from my mom's and aunt's failed purchases, so I only was able install YouTube in it. But 11 months ago I bought 512 GB Micro SD, because that's the biggest one you can get in my country even today and it only costed 80,99€.
BTW I suggest to move your games from previous Micro SD to new one instead of re:downloading them, because 8+ GB games takes hours to download with Nintendo Switch. So it's many times faster to move games from old to new Micro SD.

You can use your computer to copy over the data on the microsd card to computer and back to the new card. You have to first format the new card and then just copy the game data over. For NA version.

1. copy the data to the computer
2. format the sd card
3. copy the data over but don't overwrite the Nintendo created data that will make it think that it's the old memory card and the Switch will ask to format it.
