Topic: Three years in, still no Switch options from My Nintendo?

You can still get discounts for select Wii U and 3DS games by using silver and gold coins on My Nintendo. Still nothing for Switch? Is the ability to use gold coin towards your NSO subscription and a 1-to-1 expenditure on games all there will ever be?

The current system is...fine, but with each passing decade it feels as though Nintendo is rewarding its loyal customers less and less, all while quietly asking for more.

@Magician I don't even think they do rewards for Wii u games anymore, unfortunately.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they said the ability to use gold coins directly as money on the eShop is the Switch equivalent of offering discounts on Wii U and 3DS games. Which it kind of is, and you get to choose which games to use them on, so in that sense it's even better.

Yeah, I was never impressed with the 3DS discounts.... The times those were games I'd like, I'd got them already
Better I can use my gold points on any eShop games I buy

Where is it written that a company owes you anything? You buy their product because you want it not because they are your friends. They are a business after all and they are in it to make money.

I still miss the physical Club Nintendo rewards, lol.

I got some good use out of the 3DS game card case, DS carrying pouch, and the calendars offered to Gold class members.

Seconded. I created an account towards the service's end, but I do have a decent 3/DS cart case off of it. The digital rewards were better too, IMO.

My Nintendo could be a LOT better, but I have gotten some use out of the software discounts when it comes to the Virtual Console. Unfortunately, there haven't been a lot of these lately. Plus, as mentioned above, the Wii U discounts quietly stopped. They're almost exclusively 3DS discounts, software, themes, and PC wallpapers/calendars/random printouts at this point.

Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet, Hades (Switch)

That's a bit short sighted. Creating goodwill through things like for example membership schemes is part of any successful business strategy and there's written legal requirements like "promoting the success of the company" (in the UK at least but similar terms exist internationally) which includes building good relations with customers, considering the community and creating a good reputation. The idea that companies chase profit solely is true but incredibly short term which leads to unstableness in the end which is why so many of the more successful companies take long term approaches.

Yea, you're attacking a strawman here. You're not being fair. OP never said Nintendo owed him anything. Nintendo was the company that decided to start the whole Club Nintendo thing, not @Magician, and they advertise it as a way to get reduced and free stuff on their platforms in return for gathering points mostly through buying their products. It's totally valid to wonder why the Switch is the only Nintendo platform not present on Nintendo's own promoted rewards club.

@Magician It's pretty clear they're planning on getting rid of the rewards system for consoles altogether. After all, instead of offering discounts through the program they've started offering comparable ones on the shop directly. My guess is in another couple years they'll rework it to be for mobile stuff only.

@Magician That's pretty standard, isn't it? The less successful a system from 1 of the big 3 (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) is, the more generous that company becomes. Nintendo during the Wii U era and Microsoft in the past few years has been the most generous this past decade and that's because the Wii U and XB1 didn't sell well.

I thought it would be an interesting point of discussion, nothing more. I just feel that Nintendo leadership is now more about getting the most from the Nintendo fandom rather than giving. If Iwata were still alive I firmly believe Club Nintendo would still exist. Instead of a computer programmer (Iwata) being at the helm, the reigns at Nintendo have been driven by business types since 2015, and it shows.

The gold coin system most likely won't exist on Nintendo's next generation platform.

In my honest opinion, Nintendo's "reward" system has completely fallen off a cliff, ever since they stopped with the Star Catalog and migrated their service into MyNintendo. The last REAL reward I was able to get, was the Zelda Collector's Edition for GameCube, and that was decades ago.

All the stupid and useless online trinkets they now offer are complete and utter trash for all but the most devout fanboy/girl. Who the hell cares about Mario ring tones or wallpapers, that you can just as easily download for free online?

So, besides the occasional really interesting, yet all but completely unattainable reward (looking at you, SNES controller for Switch) almost any and all of these so-called "rewards" are complete and utter trash, so I'm stuck with almost a thousand platinum coins that I can't buy anything worthwhile with. I wish I had that many platinum coins in real life: I'd probably be relatively wealthy...

The only minor benefit of the coins is using them for the slight discount you can get on digital purchases, but that's obviously only the case for gold coins, so it's only a minor bonus compared to what the reward system used to be.

On a side note: and I'm still VERY angry at Nintendo for the thousands of points/stars they stole from me, when they updated their reward system from Star Catalog to the empty promise that it is nowadays...

That's the main problem with the mobile rewards, @ThanosReXXX .... Since I can't do anything else with my platinum coins, I do get wallpapers with them Can't say that bothers me, particularly but if they're going to give us those coins, it'd be nice to have some better options for things to get with them

@BruceCM Exactly my point. But the difference between then and now is SO stark, that it isn't even funny anymore. The best free gift that I've been able to get from this current reward system, and best in that regard is highly debatable, is a Zelda Picross game, but other than that, it's all just useless junk that isn't any good for anyone my age.

I'm well and truly over the days of getting excited about putting a Mario or Luigi wallpaper on my phone or on my PC...

@ThanosReXXX The big thing I miss from Club Nintendo is full soundtracks. Galaxy, 3D World and MK8 were full soundtrack CDs (possibly also ALBW and Triple Deluxe?) and since Club Nintendo's closure the only Nintendo game that has gotten a full soundtrack release without needing to import is Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

Lols, you want more Princess Peach, right, @ThanosReXXX .... ? I guess I didn't really experience the time when they had much better rewards, though The 3DS games they offered were either ones I had already or wasn't interested in! So, I don't want a system like that for Switch, personally

@Magician Exactly Iwata was a programmer and a gamer first and not a business man. As much praise as people give him in truth he wasn't a good president of Nintendo. Don't get me wrong I do respect the man especially when Nintendo was hurting financially and he took a pay cut before firing employees due to his poor judgement rather then blaming someone else, but honestly yeah it was his fault.

Nintendo never did so poorly finically as when Iwata was in charge but alot of people are blinded by that because it's Iwata. Yeah the Wii did good and it introduced alot more people to the world of gaming but he forgot who brought him to the dance so to speak, gamers. Instead just making the Wii accessible to non gamers they could have made it appeal to their core audience as well if they wouldn't have relied on motion controls only but I digress.

Basically what I am saying is Iwata was a good man just a poor business man and alot of his thinking did hurt business. Now the problem is when these guys who are business men try to fix what Iwata did because it's not good for business they are looked upon as jerks, not caring and just bad but in truth they are just doing what business men do.

@Grumblevolcano Ah, yes. Forgot about those. Also good, and sorely missing items on the current reward system. And what I also wanted to refer to in my original comment, by mentioning that SNES controller for Switch, is that those rewards, INCLUDING that Zelda Collector's Edition game for GameCube, where actually achievable without having to break the bank or having to buy dozens of games, to amass enough points.

If I remember correctly, that SNES controller for Switch was something along the lines of 7500 coins, probably gold ones. That's all but impossible to achieve, for the average gamer. Or, by the time you finally DO reach that number of coins, they'd probably be out of stock...

@BruceCM Well, there's plenty of others on here that'll be able to tell you about this, but there's also this nifty little thing called the Wayback Machine, which you might have heard of. If not, then have a look.

On this page, you can visit snap shots of web site pages from decades ago, provided that they are included in the Wayback Machine's archive, obviously. It can be a fun waste of time, sometimes, especially if you have a lot of memories attached to the sites you'd like to revisit.
