@ThanosReXXX the Snes controller for the switch wasn’t a reward. You had to buy it and also pay for the expensive postage.

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

ThanosReXXX

@1UP_MARIO Ah, okay. My bad, then. But come to think of it, that sounds even worse, especially as I do remember it being quite expensive in some shape or form, so it was just expensive in ACTUAL coins, then.

The only physical reward I got from mynintendo rewards are
The splatoon 2 3 poster pack and
The super nes 3 poster pack.

The other exclusive physical reward was the
Nes controller for the switch for 50 pounds and the super nes controller for the switch for 25 pounds and you can purchase these if you have a Nintendo online subscription

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

1UP_MARIO

@ThanosReXXX exactly😉
It doesn’t just sound bad. It is bad.

I'm not sure I can agree. Yes, the Wii U did poorly, and the GC didn't fare much better. But under Iwata, Nintendo had a stretch of several years being more lucrative than the company had ever been previously. I don't know how you could equate the highest highs of the Wii/DS era as Nintendo doing poorly financially?

Switch 2 Physical Collection - 3 games (as of November 23rd, 2025)

@1UP_MARIO Kinda weird, though, that the NES controller was more expensive than the more advanced SNES one...

1UP_MARIO

@ThanosReXXX you got 2 nes controller but only 1 Snes but outside the Nintendo switch nes and Snes games they are quite useless.
Although not the best comparison my nes mini cost me around 50£ and nintendo charged that much for the nes controllers for switch which is also meant to be a EXCLUSIVE reward for people with online subscription.
Doesn’t feel like a reward when you also have to add in £6.95 for shipping.

ThanosReXXX

@1UP_MARIO Ah, I see, just as expensive, then. But yeah, I can understand your feelings about it. I've not given in to Nintendo Online yet, seeing as that too, is pretty pathetic, so it may be cheaper than Microsoft or Sony's offerings, but it's so far behind the times, and it also offers FAR less, and it's SO cumbersome, such as with the phone tethering and all that.

1UP_MARIO

@ThanosReXXX I’d just recommend sharing the cost with 7 other people on a family subscription.
My second year is shared with the kind people of Nintendo life users.

@1UP_MARIO Unfortunately, such a scenario isn't possible for me. And even then, I wouldn't really use it.
I wouldn't mind the cost either, actually, if Nintendo would just get with the times already. There's only so many times you can recycle the same old NES and SNES games and expect people to actually be happy about that.

If they would have taken a good, long look at their competitors, they would have already been knee-deep in the GameCube and Wii catalog by now, but no, at Nintendo's pace, I suppose we should be "grateful" if they get around to those games somewhere in the 2030's...

He was also an active participant Pokémon Go and opening up Nintendo to mobile games, oversaw the Switch etc, people seem to forgot that those products were due to him as they arrived on the market post his death even though stuff like that takes years of development first. On the same basis I wouldn't attribute too much of the Gamecube failure to him either as he took over as it was being released.

If you look at the entire 100+ year of history of Nintendo I reckon their love hotels was their biggest failure.

@jump Well, at least they caused less headaches than the Virtual Boy...

1UP_MARIO

@ThanosReXXX I agree. I have it and I don’t even use it much. I don’t even think I’ve spent more than 20 minutes on both the nes app or the snes app. I did buy super Mario Maker 2 bundled with 12 months online subscription and was lucky to sell it. 😉
Gamecube games, I thought they were coming on the Wii u but they skipped gamecube and went straight to the Wii even though that was backwards compatible.
Sorry I must sound like a miserable fart.

ThanosReXXX

@1UP_MARIO Well, then most of us are "miserable farts" or spoiled brats, or whatever they want to call us, but I say it's on Nintendo. I may be a fan of theirs, but I don't have to be a blind fanboy. They definitely do still have their faults, and Nintendo Online's game offering and voice chat are definitely some of them.

When mynintendo first launched it was actually giving you rewards for free with gold coins not discounts and free with platinum coins.
They gave us warioware touched, the first digital DS game.
Zelda TP piccross
Mario 64
Mario kart 64
Pikmin 3 dlc 1
Pikmin 3 dlc 2
Mario kart 8 dlc pack 1
Mario kart 8 dlc pack 2
Nes remix 1
Nes remix 2
New super Luigi u dlc
Lots of Nes virtual console and Snes games.

Now they give us 3ds themes and wallpapers

We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.

Octane

@Magician I just don't think they see the need to. No other company is doing it, and people are fine with buying Nintendo products without Club Nintendo. It would be cool, but I don't think it's returning unfortunately.

@ThanosReXXX I remember the Zelda Collector's Edition on the Cube. Good memories. I also got a Game & Watch out of the Club Nintendo system. And I still have that ''Thank You'' coin they sent when it all ended.

Octane

ThanosReXXX

@Octane Huh? Thank You coin? A physical one, or a picture in an e-mail? I don't remember that one, or I've been duped...

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

ThanosReXXX

@1UP_MARIO Yeah, on the Wii U and 3DS it was still relatively okay, but now on the Switch, the offerings are quite paltry in comparison.
