Topic: Testify as to how and why the Switch is your all-time favorite platform.

Slightly off-topic:
I'm currently in limbo if in the future I should go with the Switch's successor or pick up the Steam Deck.
Most depends on how the next Nintendo console turns out to be.

The pros of a Nintendo console:

  • The games published on it are usually optimised for the hardware.
  • No excessive need to tinker with settings.
  • Its price which is usually cheaper than the one of its competitors.

The pros of the Steam Deck:

  • Multiplat games are usually cheaper on it.
  • Less worries with backwards and forwards compatibility since it runs PC games.
  • A way larger library.

@SwitchForce
You're reading stuff in my post I didn't say and don't even think.
If the Switch wasn't powerful enough to me, it wouldn't be the only currently supported console I own, I don't even have a Steam account (yet?).
I sure like a few Nintendo exclusives like Mario Kart, Tropical Freeze, BOTW and Mario Odyssey, but the bulk of games I play are 3rd party multiplatform all also available on Steam.
And you have to agree, there are way more settings you can fine tune on a PC than on a Switch, the Steam Deck is a handheld PC after all. I prefer the more plug and play method of the Switch.

As for physical versus digital, I recently switched to buying digital games, with the rare exception of a second hand 1st party game. I don't see the point anymore buying carts which don't contain the whole game, especially missing bug fixing patches. I'm not talking about DLC, which I can stomach in a way, because they usually add content which isn't necessary to go through the base game.
I know I can't resell digital games, but the deep discounts you can get on them make more than up what I could earn from reselling physical games. As I said, the big majority of the games I buy are 3rd party.

I'm not a Nintendo loyalist. I wait and see what the Switch successor will have to offer before I'll pull the trigger.
Who knows? Maybe Nintendo will drop the hybrid model. That would be a deal breaker to me. Or add a functionality I'm not comfortable with.
Backwards compatibility on the other hand would be a nice bonus.

The Switch just wins people over. Commentators can sit on these websites and argue over it's hardware and internal components or power or whatever, but in real world use it's a blast. I hated the idea of the Switch when it first came out and thought it was stupid. I'm 35 years old and grew up with the NES, N64, Sega Genesis, etc. I did NOT like handhelds. Well, fast forward 3 years from the Switch release, and I'm stuck in an airport in Des Moines, Iowa alone for 13 hours and wishing I had a Switch like the person near me.

Then fast forward another 2 years and we're preparing for a 20 hour drive partially across the Country for open heart surgery for my son. I decide to grab a Switch Lite to see if I'll like it. After being able to play in the late hours in the ICU when he's sedated and recovering and I'm kept up at night from the beeps and sounds of a hospital, I realize how amazing this thing really is. After he's released from the hospital, we had 4 days in the hotel in isolation before an outpatient follow up before heading home. That thing entertained me and him for those 4 days. It was a life saver.

I got home and realized I wanted the OLED because of how much I ended up loving the games. I bought it and took it to our family Thanksgiving party last night to let the nieces and nephews play Mario Kart against each other while the adults prepared the meal. My siblings never liked video games, I was the only one in our family who ever really played. Before everyone left for the night, my brother and his wife had ordered a Switch online for their kids for Christmas, my Sister and her husband bought one today, and my Mom and Dad decided they want one at their house for when the grandkids come over.

So what I've learned, is that regardless of what people on this website or others choose to debate about with the Switch, it's just simply an awesome product that can do so much for so many different cases. I absolutely love mind, and I agree and consider it my all time favorite console. Followed by the N64 (nostalgia) and the PS4 (game selection).

The Switch is nowhere near my favorite console of all-time, but is a very good console. It's not even close as I base my opinion strictly on software and SNES, PS1, & PS2 all outclass the Switch in this regard, but again it doesn't mean I don't love my Switch, it just doesn't quite live-up to the all-time greats.

@TowaHerschel7 Just remember none of those can do much when you unplug power. Just think about that more.

This is what those that go Hatin on Switch can't wrap their head around why. When everyone else already knows why.

This is the test of how successful the Nintendo Switch is regardless of all the NintenDoomed fandom keep saying it will die out in 2017 when released.

That's what all missed in this low powered Switch. Hastag always can't get past a low powered Switch but can't see why it's so successful and doesn't require ubber GPU power to be successful.

The Switch is amazing console ... but ... yes there is one very big, nasty and smelly BUT! The Joycons are the WORST controllers ever created! I have never had so much drifting on any other controller.

Currently it is a pain for me to play on my joycons even after "fixing" them. And the worst part is that they are expensive for such a flimsy design! And I am not a person that likes to press hard on analog sticks and buttons! I take really good care of my consoles with the desire for them to outlive me

So ... yeah ... the joycons are the worst. I wonder if the Pro controller is better so I can invest in that and forget about the portability

I can't buy joycons every 6 to 12 months ...

@SwitchForce Yeah, but there's not much around my area so I rarely leave home outside of shopping and doctor's visits so I don't use handheld mode much and as for power? Our weather is some of the least severe in the entirety of the US. We usually experience one or two 5-10 minute outages a year so my PS4/PS3/Wii U/PSTV have zero issues being played basically anytime I want.

Long story short the main pros of the Switch are heavily unimportant to me since I have little to benefit from them. That said it has a great library of games and amazing exclusives so it's a very good system, but as a person who heavily favours JRPG's, the Switch falls short of SNES/PS1/PS2 and even a bit short of PS4, but like I said it's still a very good console.

@EaglyTheKawaiiShika I have an ultra obscure generic Pro Controller I got at Amazon a year and a half ago for $20 and it still works like new and has no analog stick drift so far.

@TowaHerschel7 wow....why am I not surprised by these posting. Shortfall those system require power that's the biggest shortfall to fail to note that is even a bigger shortfall-in this age of gaming on the go. Also on that note forgetting why the Switch is performing better then naysayers say is the best thing that could happen to Switch. Switch gives people freedom from being couch potato and can game when and where they feel like it. Switch can't be compared to tethered system as that does injustice to all systems. And is a cheapskate way out. One should Re-Read Post #46 and ask themselves. That's all the family reasons why.

@SwitchForce Dude you need to chill. I NEVER said the Switch is bad and I REALLY like the console, but as I said, I base how much I like a console by how much I like it's library of games. You need to learn that everyone has their own preferences and tastes and stop virtue-signaling when a person isn't even attacking what you're aggressively defending for no reason...

Conceptually, I guess I like the console. Game-wise however, I struggle to think of anything I enjoyed outside of ports or third party releases. It's a shame, since this console was pretty much my dream console, as I always wanted to play Home console games on the go, but when all the home console games coming out for first party feel inferior to what was put out last gen on the 3DS, it just makes me want to crawl back to that console instead.

@SwitchForce
Here is the thing.
As from my experience with 3rd party multi console games (the 3rd party games that available on all consoles version), I found a lot of 3rd party games on Switch have downgraded version than PS4 version (30 fps vs 60 fps, graphics detail, etc) and until the last time I bought 3rd party multi console games during this year, I felt disappointed to see the downgraded quality compared with PS4 version I have for the same games.
I have quite long enough to sugar coating my Switch but I couldn't sugar coating anymore after I found more downgraded quality of 3rd party multi console games on Switch so I separated the games distribution I want to pick. The 3rd party multi console games will be on PS4 / PS5 version, while my Switch games will only get 1st party and 3rd party exclusives or remastered from other Nintendo games.
I still like my Switch but I also have PS4 and a few PS5 games (no PS5 machine yet) and I like both of them for having different games library.
