Topic: Switch's lack of games at launch (and general weird launch) kinda feels intentional

Yea, people just needed time to settle down. Happens with pretty much anything, I guess - you get all excited and wrapped up in the moment, for good or ill.

@rallydefault Yeah, that's a good point in general. Even I've been straining to keep myself from losing control over this. I want Nintendo to succeed here, since they clearly still know how to make a lot of games that appeal to my interests and stand apart from the crowd, but at the same time, even their successful systems have made me regret buying them so damn early. I'll wait, and play what I got. And when enough time passes, I'll have a treasure trove waiting for me. It's already guaranteed.

I'm one of the very few that thinks this launch lineup stinks. It's one of the worst I've seen. People say the Wii U's launch was bad because there were just too many games, but the problem was that there were too many OLD games. No one wanted to play old games that they had already played, and the same thing is happening here, except there are even less games to choose from.

I get most people are mostly excited for BoTW at launch, and rightfully so—that game is going to win Game of the Decade by the looks of things, but you can't just play ONE game for 5 months, assuming Xenoblade Chronicles 2 drops around June/July.

There's nothing else worth playing between BoTW and Xenoblade 2. The rest of the launch lineup is shovelware reminiscent of the Wii or really old games that people (1) don't care about (2) already played. In fact, that's basically how to describe the entire Switch lineup from here until the end of the year.

There are only a handful of made-from-scratch Switch games. Most are old XBO/PS4 games, oldER 360/PS3/Wii games, or worse, games on Android and iOS that are also old. Out of the games made exclusively for Switch (that are actual games, actually announced with an actual release date) two are glorified tech demos, one is a glorified Wii U game, 5 are (arguably) shovelware. That leaves us with Splatoon 2, Xenoblade 2, and Mario Odyssey for the entire 2017.

That's NOT a good lineup guys. There's not a single—NOT ONE—third-party AAA title coming to Switch exclusively, and not a single 3rd party big hitter until Skyrim Special Edition, which will be a year old when it releases. There is no Mass Effect: Andromeda, no official announcement for Yooka-Leylee, no RE7, and no official word of when—or IF—the Dragon Quest games will release in the West.

Thems fighting words...but, I'm not an idiot, so I'm not actually gonna pick a fight about it.

Okay, I'm gonna stop you there and ask you: how many third party exclusives have there been in general this gen? As in, real exclusives, not just timed exclusives?

Granted, I'm under the impression that a lot of devs are either being cautious, or didn't have a lot of notice about the system before it was revealed. Not excusing Ninty if that was the case, but I do think that would lend some context for what was announced for launch.

If the thing launched with 100 games, many companies would lose money! Of course it's intentional!!!

I never drive faster than I can see. Besides, it's all in the reflexes.

It sucks that you aren't excited for these games, but when we look back at the switch release, I bet we'll see that it had some of the best reviewed release games (which is the only way to actually try and objectively come to a consensus of whether the launch lineup was good)

I just wish that there were more titles available at launch. There's virtually nothing of note to plug the almost 2 month gap between launch and the release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (and we're losing our bananas over a port!).

And if EA aren't releasing FIFA within the launch period (and aren't at the very least porting FIFA 18 to the Switch), then they might as well not bother at all. I have a bad feeling that EA are planning a bare-bones non-numbered FIFA release for the Switch with no current plans to port FIFA 18 over, which will be a real knob move on their part.

They may as well as just scrapped plans for a launch-ish FIFA and just went all in out in having FIFA 18 ready in time for the holidays.

I think that the FIFA that was at Switch presentation will be the 18' one. It's a non-sense for EA to bring FIFA now on Switch. It'll be the next episode, same day as other versions

@crimsoncavalier I'm expecting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for December or delayed to 2018.

@Grumblevolcano holiday 2017 for Japan, first half 2018 for west. It is the most realistic option to me

You just have to look at the unambitious number of units shipped to find evidence of this.

2 million units, unambitious?

XBONE sold 1 million, PS4 sold just over 2 million!

In the past, FIFA have generally released a late unnumbered FIFA game (based on the most current version available) during the launch period of a console (that is, if the launch period takes place during the new year, and not during the September-Holiday season when the latest FIFA game would typically be released), followed by the standard annual releases. They did this with the PSP and Vita from memory (where there have been two FIFA games released in 2005 and 2012 respectively). But I have a bad feeling that EA is only going to give us a gimped unnumbered port of FIFA 17 and not bother giving us FIFA 18 at all, or skip straight to FIFA 18, which won't be released until around September.

Unlike Fifa 13 on Wii U, I see more value in a FIFA game on Switch, gimped or otherwise, as I should be able to play locally anywhere, but I won't be supporting the franchise annually unless EA are serious about supporting the system. There are rumours that the Switch version will be based on the PS3/360 versions of the game, which will undoubtedly be reskinned instalments of the game based on an earlier build (most likely FIFA 14 with a roster update), which does not bode well for the future of FIFA on Switch as we'll be missing out on major features that players of other console versions (PS4/Bone/PC) will have access to, and in instances where players have access to more than one system, I can't think of a sane reason (other than portability) why one would choose the Switch version over say, the PS4 version.

Bloody hell, I hate EA.

^EA have already said Fifa Switch is using a custom build, not a port, probably to include waggling in the controls.

Given there are developers whom still haven't got dev kit yet I wouldn't be surprised if EA just didn't have time to make a new version.

The un-numbered ports you refer to (for PSP and Vita) were done precisely because the consoles launched partway through the "life" of the latest version of FIFA. Waiting until September for an up-to-date version of FIFA sounds like a good idea to me, rather that than a quick port and then buying a new version six months later.

And the rumour about it being based on PS3/360 versions has already been shot down by EA:

Now it might well be that they end up using some PS3/360 assets, but so what? They are still going to look excellent on the 6" Gamepad screen and aren't exactly going to look terrible on a big screen either.

Whether we get all the bells and whistles of the PS4/XB1 version remains to be seen. I would be stunned if EA don't bring Ultimate Team to Switch as it is massively popular and generates them a HUGE amount of revenue. I think EA are using FIFA to test the waters of Switch, to see what sales are like before they decide on bringing any other games over. If that's the case then it doesn't make sense for them to release anything but the best possible version of the game.

I'll definitely be pre-ordering FIFA for my Switch. I think you need to stop throwing the game under the bus before we've seen a single screenshot or second of video or had any chance to play it.

^100% agree with the post above, it's not in EA's best interests not to bring the best version of FIFA they can to the Switch. I'm sure if it's the best version they can produce and it sells well it may open the door up for some more games from EA but ultimately only time will tell.

@TheLZdragon Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin and Smash Bros. Melee on the GameCube! That's a launch everyone still remembers fondly, well, the few people that actually had a GameCube.

If we're including those, then we'll include Mario Kart and Splatoon for the Switch. Pikmin and Smash were not launch titles but were released within months.

Suddenly the Switch's launch is better!

EA is also known to be full of crap. They have half-***ed games in the past and called them "immersive". The jury is still out for this FIFA.

@TheLZdragon Well, okay, they came two weeks after launch. Mario Kart won't be out for another 2 months and Splatoon is just ''summer''. I get what you're saying though, and I don't disagree, just depends on what you define as launch or launch window I guess.
