Topic: Switch won't read games, except for Gianna Sisters

Hello
Maybe somebody here can help me or point me in the correct direction. I have a Switch with quite a weird problem. It can only read one game, Gianna Sisters Twisted Dreams. Every other game gives me the "Game can't be read" error. I've tested it with two brand-new games fresh out of the box (Lego Harry Potter and Pokemon Let's Go) and three games that were used (Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Gianna Sisters). All these games work on my Switch Lite. It's not an issue with the game card reader either, I've already switched that one with a definitely working one from a Switch I got exactly for that, that came with a broken screen. Oh, and resetting hasn't helped. Even after a complete reset Gianna Sisters installs and plays just fine, while all other games won't.

Gianna Sisters is a cursed game

Joking aside, try making another file and playing the game. if that doesn't work ask @WoomyNNYes

@alien011 Weird, indeed. When you say you tried resetting, I'm assuming you mean that you pressed the power button for 15-30 sec to for "hard reset". Your terminology is fine, I'm just ruling out the basic stuff. One thing Nintendo support reps will ask is if you made sure the Switch updates are current. If you get an error code, you can search the error code on Nintendo's support page, to try and see what it means.

I'm pasting link here mainly as a shortcut to Nintendo support if you have an error code to search.

Unfortunately, the only other thing I recommend is contacting Nintendo Support. I'm guessing you would use Nintendo Germany/Deutschland.

With resetting it I mean I have put it back to factory settings both through the system settings and the recovery menue.
Here's the error I get:

I don't have any error code.
And here's the same Switch with Giana Sisters:

Touchscreen works fine too, that one goes through the game card reader board aswell.
Sadly I can't go through Nintendo's support because I've bought the Switch used and I've already opened it.
By now I think it might be update related. Is there a way to manually re-install the current update, like with the PS4 and Xbox One or do I have to wait until Nintendo releases 10.3.00 to test that theory?

I bought the Switch used. The games come from various shops, both online and offline. But the games are ok, they all work on my Switch lite and my other Switch.

@alien011 I think you've answered your own problem. The games work on other devices. You bought the Switch used, and it doesn't work properly. Someone sold you a duff Switch.

@gcunit I bought it partially working for parts, to fix a bluescreen Switch I had gotten earlier (yes, I am not good at soldering, so I broke that board more than I fixed it). I wanted to make one working Switch from the parts of two broken ones and thought the non-working game card slot would be an easy fix. It isn't, and I got a third one with a broken screen. After putting that mainboard into the bluescreen one I finally have a working one (and by now could have bought a new one, but what fun would that be), but I still want to figure out why none of the three good gamecard slots work on the 2nd Switch I got and especially why the only game I am able to play on that device is Twisted Sisters.
So far I have spent around 300 Euros for three Switches with two original docks, two original chargers and original blue and red joycons (which both were somewhat non-working, but I've fixed them) and the other accessories that normally come with it, and some cable-bound USB controller. If I sell the Switch with the non-working gamecard slot for parts with an honest description I can get around 100 to 150 Euros back, the third working gamecard slot is worth another 20 to 30 Euros (if I find someone who needs it) plus whatever I get for the battery and other parts from the one with the broken screen, so it's still a decent deal.
Does anybody probably know some other places where I can ask around and find somebody who probably knows anything?

@alien011 This is more of a gamers forum than a tech forum. You might get lucky and find someone who knows their stuff here, but you'll probably have more luck on a more 'hardware fixers' type forum. I don't know of any of those, other than I think there are comments sections on ifixit guides which sometimes provide useful insight. There might be an actual forum there too, IDK.

Sounds like it would have been cheaper to just buy one brand new Switch .... If it'd been buying ones that were supposed to be in good condition, I'd suggest going to whoever/ wherever you got them but if you buy them saying they're in the condition they are, I don't get what you want us to do about that

@BruceCM I wanted to know if anybody ever had something like this happening (some games working, some not) and might know why.

@alien011 I can only imagine not all game cards are equal in terms of their physical shape or electronic design.
