hmm I give, I guess you all have a point there, But I believe the Switch and its baby brother the Switch Lite have not reached there max potential yet what ever that maybe.

It depends on your expectations for future third party support I suppose. The current Switch is basically a slightly more powerful PS3/Xbox 360. Do you want more recent games like Resident Evil 7, Hitman 3, or Assassin's Creed Odyssey running natively on the hardware rather than being streaming-only games on Switch? Developers are going to require a bump in hardware performance if you want newer third party games.

Or are you content with the Switch just being an indie / last-gen port machine?

I don't even know what my expectations are for the switch as I have a switch lite. I only just got back into Nintendo gaming in late 2019 when I got my system and into 2020 and 2021. I was once a big gamer in the early days but now its just a pacifier to have fun with.

I dont see the point in a mid gen boost as its still going to be behind the others. The games you have highlighted are all "last gen" games now PS5 and XsX are out.
Nintendo needs to either inovate or stick with what's working and rely on the Indy devs to provide third party support.
The other issue would be price, an updated Switch that can hit PS4 standards would cost the same as the new gen consoles and still be a generation behind - you can already buy a Series S for less than a base Switch.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Age of Calamity yet.

@COVIDberry What about Age of Calamity? It's already released.

Any of the GTAs. Maybe in a collection?

@Mr-Fuggles777 I agree, and another problem is that if there was a Switch Pro with exclusive games then the userbase would be split in two, and any Pro-exclusive games would only be available to the likely small percentage of Switch owners who actually care enough to upgrade. From looking at Nintendo forums like this it's easy to think everyone wants the Switch Pro to exist, but I think most people would just be annoyed about the prospect of having to buy a new model if they want access to every Switch game (as would I, personally). And if third parties had any sense, they'd look at the success of the Switch and make some games with Switch in mind from the beginning (like Capcom did with MH Rise) rather than wait for Nintendo to release an upgraded model so they can port over their games from PS4 and XB1.

@jump Happy to clarify. The thread is discussing (third-party) games that require enhanced computing power (beyond that of the current Switch models) to function. AoC, though clearly a second-party game, was the first that came to mind.

(I consciously decided not to purchase it or inscribe it in my "future" list after playing the demo and witnessing it's performance. A future "deluxe" version with resolution and frame rate improvements would interest me. That awaits more capable hardware...)
