ESRB box art for Eden Genesis has been spotted.

A Rosario Dawson-flavored Super Meat Boy clone?

Word round the campfire is that the Japanese release for Macross: Shooting Insight has "lost" English language support. The last time we saw this was with One Step From Eden, where the English support was pulled because an LRG release was contracted for shortly after the Japanese release.

Are LRG going back to that well?

@Magician
I can corroborate. I had Macross Shooting Insight preordered with Playasia, and they sent me the “sorry, no English” warning on Monday. But sadly, I doubt a localized release of the game will appear and folks will have to import it.

I’ve been gaming in Japanese since the 90s so I couldn’t care less, but honestly I never expected this game to have English to begin with. The Macross IP has been kicked around in licensing hell between Japan and the US since forever. Macross fans in the West have had to import everything, or rely on fan subs or bootlegs, as we just never get properly localized media. It’s a shame, really - Macross probably would be as popular as Gundam here, otherwise.

Hopefully I’m wrong and somehow a Western edition gets released, but I wouldn’t hold your breath!

@Teksetter My only experience with the franchise was the 95' OVA Macross Plus.

Not as well liked as say Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll, but a pretty good story.

@Magician
The Macross Plus OVA was a great series! Another OVA, "Macross II" was good, too, and one of the first proper "Japanimation" shows I rented from the comic book store back in the early 90s, like Akira and Ninja Scroll and Fist of the North Star.

I think I'm still most fond of the original Superdimensional Fortress Macross TV show, though - a great sci-fi story with an alluring love triangle, and sweet 80s J-pop music married to arguably the best mecha designs ever seen. It's what Carl Macek licensed and adapted to become the first story arc of the "Robotech" TV show that intrigued me as a jr. high kid. The unedited Japanese show is even better, though. And the digest movie version of the TV show (Macross - Do You Remember Love) is really impressive - a must-watch title for any fan of sci-fi or mecha anime, I'd say. It's criminal the TV show and movie, and all the subsequent TV shows never made it to the West for licensing reasons.

I hope the Shooting Insight game is fun and does the IP justice! We will see this spring.

In the past, I've mentioned that there are some physical releases that have updates on the cartridge that are newer than what's distributed digitally.
This means if you own both a digital and physical version of a game, the digital version can become unplayable after using the physical game card, as the system will attempt to download a software update that is not accessible.

Affected physical releases I've encountered with this problem include Snake Pass, Fox N Forests, and Hypnospace Outlaw.

As it turns out, if you have two Switch systems, using the "Match Version With Local Users" option can fix this! With the cartridge inserted into one of the two systems, it can be used to distribute the update file from the cart, and allow the digital version to launch once more.
You can then do the reverse (with or without the game card) to make sure the latest update is installed digitally to both systems.

It's still strange to me that there are updates which are physical exclusives, and can render digital versions unplayable without this local-matching process.

Iam8bit have announced a collectors edition of Outer Wilds...

Hopefully this means a European release too.

The collector's edition for Outer Wilds does look very nice, a good value for what's on offer.
I don't need the extra stuff personally though so I'll hold out for a probable standard retail release, but I'll grab this nice looking collector's edition if it's the only available option.

It doesn't surprise me that the Switch version of Contra Operation Galuga isn't so good, Konami did see fit to release Contra Rogue Corps, after all.

@MarioBrickLayer - Excellent, now that this one is out of the way, they can get on that Turok 3 release.

PM Studios have opted to release Pixelshire physically.

And LRG are reprinting non-collector editions of Abylight Studios's previous releases: Hyperlight Drifter, Cursed Castilla, and Super Hydorah.

Took a peek at the NSColletors reddit and see that folks are becoming increasingly annoyed by SLG.

They're creeping into FPG territory it seems.

@Magician
I actually emailed SLG on last Thursday to say I was concerned about my 2022 preorders for Ray’z Arcade Chronology and Dariusburst CS Core and asked for a shipping update.
Hanna there kindly replied the next day and said simply: my order was scheduled to ship Q1 2024. Here’s hoping! Especially because until latter half last year, I really liked their products and had no problems with their service. I want them to be ok!

Incidentally, I was in GameStop yesterday and was surprised to see the release date for Kingdom Come: Deliverance was next week! Fri Mar 15th. I put in my preorder, but heaven knows when I’ll get around to playing it, with my backlog and with Unicorn “Overload” coming this weekend.

I preordered that Raw Thrills TMNT game, too (April 23rd). No sooner do I put down money on that, when they announce a NEW new TMNT beat em up! I’ll own more Turtles games than Mario ones soon, at this rate! 😅

Snufkin is getting a physical release in Japan, published by Kakehashi Games.

English supported.

Just a PSA. Killer Frequency is currently marked down to $20 on AmazonNA.

I played through this on another platform, so I can't speak to the quality of Switch port. However, this is a nice murder mystery where a killer is loose in a small town where you, as the town's late night DJ, are serving as a pseudo-911 call station while the locale sheriff's office is...understaffed. Over the radio, you aid woeful calls survive attacks from the murder.

A fairly unique experience. Not your typical survival/horror or horror/adventure game.

Nice voice work, solid story,

Argh!

LRG are opening preorders for Overlord: Escape from Nazarick. Another Japan exclusive bites the dust. At a glance it appears to be a numbered release, so I'll have to add my Japanese copy to the trade pile. Still chasing that complete numbered LRG set, yo.
